Hi all

I have decided to restart this thread good luck for friday!!!!

Kravings, I wish you well and If I get that lucky lotto win I will pick the tab up for you :) It is easier for me to focus on just the one DS. Just heard from another two friends/contacts, one has been rejected by W but accepted at T with no bursary offer and the other has been accepted at W (11+) with no scholarship offer (DS plays Cricket at very high level). What a mixed bag of results coming through. DS now on playstation.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2012 16:12

I agree with LM, Frankie - I would ask W if they can offer any feedback, whether either English or Maths was particularly borderline for example and go from there. Had DS2 not got in we were seriously considering a year (or 2) in Cumnor. Which he would have utterly hated (really really really hated!) - in fact I used this as a threat to make him focus.

teaandthorazine · 17/02/2012 16:18

Hi all - just wanted to say huge congratulations to all those who secured their place today, and even bigger commiserations to those who missed out this time. I'm sure your dses will thrive wherever they go - they've already shown great promise in getting this far, and they've got such loving and committed parents behind them Smile

I've become addicted to this thread as I'm planning to sit ds for 10+ at W&T next year. My brother is an Old Whit and I fell in love with the place (and one or two of the 6th formers, hem hem!) when I was about 14! I would LOVE for ds to have the opportunities afforded him by such fab schools.

However... must admit I've been a bit freaked out by stories of huge demand and correspondingly smaller bursary pots! Still, we have nothing to lose by giving it a go, and I firmly believe that 10+ is the right choice for a load of reasons, not least that it gives you two bites of the cherry...

So, congrats again, and here's to seeing some of you here next year for the whole merry-go-round to begin again!

frankies69 · 17/02/2012 16:23

I am on to whitgift next week ladies, we know his comprehension would've needed a bit of bringing up because they told us!!! Our problem is that we need the bursary at the mo to assist with fees so maybe cumnor or Dulwich out of the bracket at the mo.... I have chatted with DS and he is now going to sit 12 an 13+, if he don't get 12+ Hmm
In some ways we are more fortunate than some with a definite no, as we don't have the problem of saying sorry son you got a place but cos we didn't get the bursary you can't go Sad

Congratulations to all with offers.
comisserations to those who did not get through this round but will come back even stronger whatever they choose.
i found this thread hugely supportive last year. long may it continue for those next year!

frankies69 · 17/02/2012 16:35

Wow! I am very proud Mummy - DS got offer to W with scholarship! Haven't been able to get to the computer all day so only now reading up on all your news - well done to all your boys who have received offers and big hugs to those who didn't. Thanks for keeping this thread going and for being able to share the stress. Thanks

mamakiso · 17/02/2012 16:43

Lol, thanks SoupDragon

SoupDragon · 17/02/2012 16:53

Frankies, would you like a Bond comprehension book - 11+ to 12+. DS2 refused to do it when he'd finished the 10-11+ version because it was "too hard"?

miss600 · 17/02/2012 17:07

@Frankie69,

I don't know you but I just really want to say to that from what you have revealed of yourself in these threads, I think you are a totally amazing woman and I admire your spirit. (And I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks same. )

With a mother like you behind him, your son is bound to thrive wherever he goes. I predict a starry future for him. Warmest wishes for you both.

frankies69 · 17/02/2012 17:17

@Soup thank you that is the one we have and again it hasn't been touched!! Grin, your offer is soo kind

@miss600 thank you sooo much that is a very kind thing to say Blush My DS has had a bit of crap over the past cpl years so he is an amazing boy in our opinion Grin

I have enjoyed our thread so much that I am going to miss you all when we not conversing!!!

I am going to carry it on into the 12+ cohort...he is going to get IN!!!!!Wink

SoupDragon · 17/02/2012 17:51

Damn - I was hoping to be able to get shot of it :)

Ladymuck · 17/02/2012 18:05

Just found out that ds's best friend didn't get into any of his choices. Sadly he is the first boy I know who did get interviews at W & T and didn't get an offer from at least one of themSad.

The prep school drum is taking too long (they're all off skiing!), but certainly that's one surprise.

Inneedofwine · 17/02/2012 18:05

@stressederica, Ladymuck and frankies69
Thank you so much for your advice - I'll take it all on board Smile

Commiserations frankies69 Sad- that's really gutting. Congrats to all who got what they were after and good luck to any who are negotiating!

havinganightmare · 17/02/2012 18:14

Frankie I will pm you but I'm absolutely gutted for you and DS. You have kept everyone (almost) sane on here - thank you so much Thanks

gazzalw · 17/02/2012 19:16

Yes, as someone who has been lurking, with a DS who has been lucky enough to pass for the grammars, just wanted to say, Frankie69, that you have been full of chutzpah and generally a motivational force on this thread and you have been very gracious in defeat.... And I admire your spirit at dusting yourself off and thinking about the future so positively already!

You are an inspiration..... and feel free to come and join us on the 1st March thread.....!

frankies69 · 17/02/2012 19:16

@soup you are a very funny lady...ever thought of using it to level that wonky table up???? Wink

Thanks everyone but frankies are bouncing back...roll on the 12+ cohort Grin

kravings · 17/02/2012 19:28

gazzalw - where is the 1st March thread...I have looked but did not find any

hopefulmum1 · 17/02/2012 19:29

Hi Ladies, Well done to all those who secured their places today on W & T. My ds has just done 10+ and am on the waiting list at T. We still has 2 more weeks to go to see whether he gets in. We did hope that we can bypast the 11+ exmins if he gets in this year. However, it is looking unlikely at this moment in time and the thought of going back to the drawing board and start again!! Any suggestion of schools to try for the 11+? We only did T this year because it is very close to where we lived.

beanie34 · 18/02/2012 08:41
Smile So happy, here you all are!!! Couldn't believe it when I couldn't post on the old thread. Thank you all for the support from the old thread, we got the news we wanted offers from W and RGS, the biggest sigh of relief and peeling myself off the ceiling, back to normality, whatever that is!

Thanks To all xoxoThanks
