Red weather warning for tomorrow for wind.
What are you supposed to do when the met office/news is telling you to stay at home but your workplace expects you in?

Same here, wind picked up again and getting dark.
Really loud noise when I was in my daughter’s room at the gable end of the house. Hoping it’s not the roof coming off !

BareWallsNoMore · 24/01/2025 16:48

Fife here, but close to Edinburgh end if that makes sense.

Fences down in 4 gardens that I can see (including my own) although to be fair it looks like some posts were rotten and have finally snapped in wind.

Bins all over garden. Even the bins I put bricks on top of are on their side and halfway down garden.

Windy but not as bad as I thought from the red alert stay at home and the phone alert last night.

Some slight rattling in my bedroom in the roof space so hoping it is just movement and nothing comes off.

Saw neighbour out earlier in heavy rain looking up anxiously at his roof so I'm guessing he has got rattling roof tiles also.

Houses around 20 years old and fairly closely packed together.

Dog strangely hasn't been that bothered by wind. He used to hate it but getting a bit older so maybe not hearing so well. Took his poo on one of the house mats (not for that purpose but he often uses them if he can't get out as puppy pad trained when a baby). Ran into garden took a huge pee mid afternoon then came running back in. That's not like him at all. He usually goes out and then can't get him back in without bribes/threats/chasing him round garden.

Think it's nearly over now.....

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 16:52

I've just drove back from work (had to make a run for it from work to car between gusts!). Carnage everywhere. So much debris on the roads. Roofs have blown off several flats in a housing estate I drive past. Shops signs on the pavements. Had to check local FB for route home as so many trees and fences blocking the roads. Am in Edinburgh. I guess it wasn't a red alert for nothing!

Top floor flat in centre of Edinburgh here and a load of masonry from next door’s roof crashed to the pavement a couple of hours ago. Sounded like an explosion when it happened.

Thankfully no one was walking under it when it fell

Oh dear, that's not good. At least no-one was hurt.

I used to lived in a top floor Edinburgh centre flat. Our skylight which was lovely and let lots of light in was constantly having roofers out to attend to leaks.

I hope the poor people haven't now got lots of leaking roofs in their flats as they are a pain to get sorted needing everyone's cooperation.

You definately would not want to get hit by one of those sandstone bricks. They look very heavy indeed.

Yeah, we’ve got two skylights which are lovely most days but are making one hell of a noise today! Thankfully they’re currently watertight.

There are some massive chunks of stone on the pavement and thank goodness no one was walking past at the time. Police tape is up but plenty people ignoring it or standing in the middle of the road trying to take photos even as cars are going past 🤦🏻‍♀️

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 17:10

Edinburgh, not far from Newhaven harbour- worse than ever now. Definitely not dying off. Suspect the services and shops that planned to restart around 5 will extend

MiddleAgedDread · 24/01/2025 17:26

Agree @liveforsummer it’s definitely not easing off!

Beaverbridge · 24/01/2025 15:36

Co op in Denny the gable end has collapsed. Just as well it was closed.

Just saw the picture! Right above the entrance too! Sainsbury's will be busy tomorrow!

sunshinechaser · 24/01/2025 18:22

We've had a power cut since 11am today and don't think it'll be back on until tomorrow. What a waste of a day! We've been so bored (and cold).

BareWallsNoMore · 24/01/2025 18:30

yes seems to be getting really windy again here in Fife. So much for my earlier prediction of it easing off.

Promised the dog a walk after 5pm but had to withdraw that offer so he has gone to sleep in disgust.

Vettrianofan · 24/01/2025 18:31

Our power went out at 8.15am and back on at 10am again. DH was on the phone to SPN when suddenly power went on again.

Vettrianofan · 24/01/2025 18:33

Unfortunately the boiler looks like it's blown a fuse so no power from that🙄 got heaters out of loft now for whole family until Sunday when engineer gets here. We suspect its tripped when power went out.

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 18:35

Seems to be getting worse again. So loud, my whole house is whistling! And here comes the rain.

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 18:36

Sorry for those that have power cuts. Our went when I was at work but came back on shortly after.

Livinginaclock · 24/01/2025 18:43

Our leisure center has lost it's roof.

Anothernamechane · 24/01/2025 18:48

So much for it easing off at 5. Just as bad here imo

Waitwhat23 · 24/01/2025 18:52

I have to agree that it seems to be getting worse not better. Roof off a house near us (no-one hurt thankfully), most roads blocked by fallen trees and power out in most surrounding villages. Hopefully it'll start to die down soon.

stonkytonk11 · 24/01/2025 19:00

Getting pretty wild in the north east now. Bit confused by reporting Scotland there saying this is the worst storm in a decade? The swathes of forest lost and widespread destruction in this area from Storm Arwen obviously doesn't count...because it happened here, perhaps!

Just said same thing to him indoors!!.

I said exactly the same. They mean 'in the central belt'

We were totally cut off for Arwen and the one that came a few weeks later was even worse for us with the direction.

Still pretty wild. Hoping it dies down before bedtime as it sounds awful coming down the chimney and is hard to sleep.

SassK · 24/01/2025 20:13

Anyone having persisting Sky issues? We've got a handful of channels working (seems to be just the ITV channels that are working), most of the channels though are saying currently affected by a signal problem. The wind has eased right down here now (west coast), would've thought the signal would've been back 🤔

Waitwhat23 · 24/01/2025 20:25

Just seen the video of the Helensburgh Leisure Centre roof - bloody hell!

My sky has been fine. But we’ve got the sky stream puck so runs of the internet not a satellite dish.

Wind still sounding dreadful here !

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 24/01/2025 21:15

Clackmannanshire here - so far there doesn't seem to have been anything major. Looks like Fife has had the worst of it. Apparantly a few more hours of it but definately easing off now.

That was always going to happen in a storm.
I stay round the corner.
