Red weather warning for tomorrow for wind.
What are you supposed to do when the met office/news is telling you to stay at home but your workplace expects you in?

Council or ACAS. They can't be expected to do such work in such dangerous conditions. Even if they're not up a height, stuff could be flying everywhere.

So he is groundwork but still expected to be lifting and laying slabs and working with machinery like excavator etc. The site he’s on has actually closed for tomorrow due to the warning but the boss has said to meet there anyway and they will find another site the company is on that they will then travel to. Police Scotland have released their do not travel warning as well and they just don’t seem to care.

@Loonyluna16 Law may be different in Scotland but if an employer is negligent and someone is killed or injured at work that is a criminal offence with possible jail term.

I’ve mentioned this to my partner that his workplace will be 100% liable if anything was to happen to any of them tomorrow. Surely insurance on sites won’t cover them to work in a red weather warning

Just heard on the radio that they are issuing emergency alerts to phones at 6pm tonight to those in the red zone

GrouchyKiwi · 23/01/2025 17:51

I just got the message. It was very loud and annoying and I'm extremely glad you mentioned it because I'd have keeled over in fright if I hadn't been prepared. Grin

TraCant · 23/01/2025 17:52

Just had the alert. Nearly jumped out of my skin as I was checking emails on my phone!

yeah i just got it and nearly shit myself as not expecting it

Possimpible · 23/01/2025 17:55

Yup, absolutely shat myself. It's making me feel so much worse, I don't have the option to stay indoors.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 23/01/2025 17:56

I was expecting it at 6pm but got it a couple of minutes ago. What a fright!

AAT65 · 23/01/2025 18:03

Likewise just got the message. Remember we had a trial one before and everyone's phone's buzzed in the supermarket. Didn't expect a verbal message too. Why the American accent?

Plump82 · 23/01/2025 18:04

I got such a fright! Mine didn't have American accent. Think that's probably down to your phone setting.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 23/01/2025 18:06

Got the emergency message, along with annoying beeping, so I pressed OK to make the beeping stop (so I could concentrate on reading the message), and the message disappeared!
Anyone know how to find it again? Or can screenshot and post it? It's not in my texts.

It was just basic batten down the hatches, keep warm and have candles and matches to hand.

I am not in a job where home working is possible. Boss has been told, not interested.

I have plans tomorrow night too to see a band and I'll be annoyed if I miss it but I'll just miss it if required.

Magnum has been postponed which is really sad 😢

DH missed out on tickets so it's not as bad as it could have been.

Call in sick as a last resort.

Fed up with seeing threads about it tbh.
We will get rain and wind nothing we have not had before.

AnneKipankitoo · 23/01/2025 18:40

My one has just arrived.

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/01/2025 18:43

Depends where you are and what's forecast for your area. 40mph (67kph) here, so nowhere near the worst forecast.

CocoapuffPuff · 23/01/2025 19:42

I didn't see warnings about the alarm so me and the cats shat ourselves. Bastard noise. My friends bus driver nearly crashed and had to stop for a wee while to calm down. Fingers crossed its not as bad as everyone predicts...

Ineedashero · 23/01/2025 20:23

I've worked from home since pre pandemic so little impact on me but DD is off school and DH will be working from home. Wonder if there will be any power cuts, not that I want an actual day off work, of course not....

Justmuddlingalong · 23/01/2025 20:26

We're in the red zone.
Garden furniture secured, bins jammed together, phone banks charged and torches handy.
As ready as we can be, but I'm wondering, if the leccy goes off, will the taps still work, or should I fill some containers with drinking water, just in case?

It depends how your water gets to you. We're quite high up so rely on pumps t get the water to us. As soon as they're affected our water pressure is pathetic.
