Red weather warning for tomorrow for wind.
What are you supposed to do when the met office/news is telling you to stay at home but your workplace expects you in?

It appears to have calmed down a lot here in the last 30 minutes (north side of Glasgow), still windy but not as bad as it was at 8am/9am. Fingers crossed the worst of it has passed - still not venturing out to explore whether the crashes I heard were the bins falling over.

Yep, I’m not far from you and have noticed it die down. Been awake since very early due to the noise but that’s about it.

Ineedashero · 24/01/2025 12:12

getting worse near Helensburgh!

I got a second alert too - just about 8.15pm as I was driving home! Already very wild here in Glasgow and everything appears to be closed, the local Fscebook page last night was just a constant stream of businesses shutting.

Asda was nuts yesterday evening, shelves stripped like the early days of Covid. Hope everyone stays safe. Currently watching a Wizz Air flight trying to land in Glasgow airport, they've already had one go, just lining up for another - those poor passengers. I don't think I'd ever fly again.

They must be terrified! I know I would be

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/01/2025 12:34

Definitely getting worse in Fife.

AllPlayedOut · 24/01/2025 12:40

East Dunbartonshire here and it’s very bad but not as bad as I expected though five minutes away a friend has had trees down and debris flying.

I decided to take my dogs and stay with family in another part of ED because there are no large(or even medium) trees close enough to their home to be an issue and I’m very glad that I did.

DeepfriedPizza · 24/01/2025 12:40

It's been very gusty here in Renfrewshire. A tree is down on the only road into my work (someone posted a pic on fb) sent it to my boss with a smug emoji. I would have been stuck there. A lamppost is down blocking junction near a hospital, thankfully there's another road in but if there were more cars on the road it would be chaos.

And it's gettng worse again, just as the plane which diverted to Manchester from glasgow this morning is making its way back...

Don't think it's the same plane - the plane currently heading out over the North Sea was a delayed 10 am scheduled departure from man to gla

Plump82 · 24/01/2025 13:14

I'm North Lanarkshire and feel just now it's probably the worst it's been. I thought peak time was about 11? But it was surprisingly not too bad then. Just watching my neighbours lead flashing jump up and down on their bay window! Hope it survives!

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 13:20

I think there was an initial amount of wind then a lull. More to come

It’s getting worse here. Large garden items are on the move in spite of how heavy they are. Very scary.

Where are you? I'm in Edinburgh and the gusts are definitely the worst they've been so far

AllPlayedOut · 24/01/2025 13:46

I’m in East Dunbartonshire.

bideyinn · 24/01/2025 13:53

Ridge tiles flew off our roof bouncing off DH's car and into the road. Huge dent in the car roof! Just so glad nobody walking past. Still pretty wild out there in Glasgow.

Mishmashs · 24/01/2025 14:03

Feel like it’s picking up on the coast near Edinburgh. The sea is wild!

AllPlayedOut · 24/01/2025 14:07

Yes. It’s continuing to get worse here too. It’s genuinely scary now.

CharityShopChic · 24/01/2025 15:17

We've lost a ridge tile too but luckily we have an enterprising local roofer who is working all weekend for repairs and will get someone out tomorrow or Sunday. Does seem to be calming down now, another couple of hours and those in the east should be seeing the same improvement we have here.

Justmuddlingalong · 24/01/2025 15:31

I'm on the Fife coast. Ramped up even more in the past hour.
While out in the back garden, collecting the recycling that had been liberated by an up ended bin, one of the chimney pots has blown off and is lying in bits in the front garden.

NessaSmith · 24/01/2025 15:32

Our local doctors surgery has had its roof ripped right off!

Ineedashero · 24/01/2025 15:35

The sun has come out near Helensburgh!

Beaverbridge · 24/01/2025 15:36

Co op in Denny the gable end has collapsed. Just as well it was closed.

8misskitty8 · 24/01/2025 15:40

East Lothian. Local Facebook page reports a house with no roof and multiple trees uprooted further down the coast.
In my street, Neighbour across the road has lost some roof tiles this morning. 2 doors down has a large hole in the roof, smashed tiles on drive. House inbetween has rubbish all over drive and a trampoline almost over fence.
Next door fence is down.
Im dreading what I’ll see when I check my roof later. 🤞 it will be ok.

Wind beginning to drop now.

Bellebelleagain · 24/01/2025 15:53

Top floor flat in centre of Edinburgh here and a load of masonry from next door’s roof crashed to the pavement a couple of hours ago. Sounded like an explosion when it happened.

Thankfully no one was walking under it when it fell

Ineedashero · 24/01/2025 15:54

nope, sun gone, suddenly all dark again and wind is back. maybe it was some kind of eye of the storm thing? Auntie has lost her tin garage.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/01/2025 15:59

We had sun briefly too. It's now gone dark again and the wind has picked up again. We're forecast for snow shortly too.
