They’re poking us all about the census again. Reminding that there’s a 1K fine along the line if you don’t complete before the May deadline. It sounds like they’re a few short of the full set. Good, I hope plenty have abstained. Wtf to how much this all costs.

Maybe folk have ‘lost the paperwork’ just like ScotGov has done with the ferry admin…

Totally agree with PPs. Our lives have been totally taken over by information that probably isn't even true and scaremongering from the SG. OH went to Specsavers yesterday and was told to wear a mask - when will this nonsense end?
WE are being left to make up our own minds in school as to whether we choose to wear a mask. I have always been a bit rebellious but there are others who are still complying because they're scared if they don't they'll get the class from hell next year or some other misfortune. One PSA who hasn't got any illness or vulnerable family members is still going wearing a mask and rubber gloves ALL the time 🙄

Specsavers are very OTT. I took my son last Sunday (ie day before legal shit ended) to just get glasses readjusted. Hadn't been wearing a mask for months so don't even carry one. I knew they wouldn't even let me in (they offered me a mask at the door, I said 'no thanks I'll wait outside')

I saw that. I haven't returned mine. It's half filled in somewhere in the house. I'm just going to go with saying I've returned it and either they or RM have lost it. How can they fine people if they can't prove it wasn't returned?

mapleleavesreturn · 23/04/2022 12:21

Another prebooked letter for a covid jab for the young dc - it seems to be all the nhs can deliver these days, and still too close to the window when she had covid!

mapleleavesreturn · 23/04/2022 12:22

It's a bit galling when you're on wait lists for this or that or haven't even had a letter to confirm your waitlist place, to get yet another covid jab appt that isn't suitable...

Blimeyherewegoagain · 24/04/2022 07:45

Ou local boots isn’t letting anyone in without a mask. Can they do that?

I guess as a private business they can refuse entry to whoever they want.

I was out and about over the weekend and surprised to see so many people still in masks and signs up.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 24/04/2022 08:00

Bizarrely the one on the next town isn’t enforcing anything. Maybe they’ve left it to each individual shop to decide. I’m not going back till I can go in without a mask.

CuddlyCactus · 24/04/2022 08:24

I was in a Boots store yesterday with no mask and it wasn't a problem. Must be up to individual stores whether they're designating themselves as healthcare

WouldBeGood · 24/04/2022 09:11

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us great posts. I yurakky agree.

Are Boots actually enforcing it or is it just signs? Ridiculous either way. I’ve been in my local boots without a mask before they were banished so don’t understand it.

still quite a few people here wandering round outside with masks on: the mind boggles.

i really don’t get keeping them in healthcare settings either, now it’s been shown they do not work. Bonkers.

They’re enforcing it.

WouldBeGood · 24/04/2022 09:32

That’s really rubbish @Blimeyherewegoagain

I wonder why? Just tell them you’re exempt?

I am very excited to announce I am going to Morrisons for the first time in 2 years where I will (hopefully) finally be able to lip read staff (I'm deaf) and do my shopping without having to send DH instead.
I have my life back. I can socialise. I can communicate.
Social distancing and masks played a big part in my switch to an entirely home based role, but being able to go out and do normal things without worrying means a lot to me.

WouldBeGood · 24/04/2022 09:51

Oh, @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue that’s so nice to hear. Enjoy your normal shopping trip 😊

It's ridiculous that shops are enforcing masks when they aren't actually in law. I would vote with your feet and choose a branch that aren't enforcing this as there do seem to be plenty.

I have noticed that a lot of places just haven't taken down their 'masks required' notices outside, although usually you can just wander in maskless anyway and no-one will care (in fact most others will also be maskless, including the staff!). I wonder if it's to pay lip service to the 'strong encouragement' to continue them from the SG, but after time people will realise that actually no-one else is and it'll fall away.

Glad that you're no longer excluded from society @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue - deaf people seem to be another group that was completely forgotten about in the clamour to keep masks a symbol because they 'don't do harm'.

RaraRachael · 24/04/2022 13:58

I don't think some of the mask obsessives realise just how detrimental it has been to some people like JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue. Two whole years out of your life must have seemed like an eternity and so thankful that it's over.

I can't believe that some people are actually wearing them outdoors. Our church organist was wearing one whilst playing today - nobody was ever within 6 feet of him at any time 😂

mapleleavesreturn · 24/04/2022 14:41

@JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue I hope you have a lovely time.

I was a bit heartened - I've been to a restaurant, shopping centre, softplay, exhibition, another restaurant and on the bus this weekend and negligible mask wearing!

Pootle40 · 24/04/2022 14:47

Was in our local Aldi yesterday. It was quite busy and only 2 adults with masks now so it is changing out there.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/04/2022 14:50

I was in town shopping yesterday and so lovely to be out and about mask free. Surprised though that the overwhelming majority of people on the bus were wearing them. I wonder if it's just such a habit now?

RaraRachael · 24/04/2022 18:15

I was in Lidl and there was only one elderly lady shopper wearing a mask - so much for NS's daft idea that most of us would continue to wear them to keep others safe.

If vulnerable people want to continue wearing them, that's fine. Just don't make the rest of us feel guilty I don't actually for wanting our lives to gain some normality.

There will be a chance to show NS that what she's forced upon us over the past 2 years has been a pile of poop, but I'm sorry to say that people will still vote for them.

GoldenOmber · 25/04/2022 07:21

so much for NS's daft idea that most of us would continue to wear them to keep others safe.

well she doesn’t herself, does she… Also I don’t get the sense behind them saying “we’re sure people will do it anyway without the law in place,” after they’ve spent this long insisting it’s so important the law stays.

Interesting change I’ve noticed on trains. If I’m travelling at the weekend or the middle of the day, there’s still a fair few masks; but on my morning commuter trains masks have totally gone. Seems people are more likely to ditch them if they’re regular train users than if they’re not.

mapleleavesreturn · 25/04/2022 07:28

It'll definitely fall further when tourists come - dh back from Denmark, no masks even in airport there.

WouldBeGood · 25/04/2022 08:13

Oh, this is making me happy. At some dark points I thought we’d never leave this pish behind!

Definitely getting fewer masked up by the day. DD does a shift on a Sunday in a large store at Braehead and said very few people were wearing masks - staff and customers.

On the Boots thing - my local branch is TINY, about the size of my front room. It's a pharmacy first and foremost, everyone in there is picking up a prescription mainly, might buy a toothbrush at the same time, but it's not like the bigger branches where they are mainly about make up and toiletries and the pharmacy is a smaller % of their business. So I suppose it's more "healthcare" setting.

My rant for today - my parents (in the over 75 group) had an appointment in the Borders last week for their 4th jab, scheduled for the very precised 1.17 in the afternoon. They rock up to discover the centre doesn't open until 1.30. Mum raises this with the staff on duty to be told that although the centres load their opening times into the computer, the centre in Aberdeen churns out the appointments automatically and people turning up when the centre is closed happens "all the time".

Super duper efficiency, just as we've come to expect.

usedtohavebupa · 25/04/2022 13:34

I don't normally shop at Sainsbury's but yesterday evening popped into one to find 2/3 wearing masks. The sign on the door said 'Please wear a mask if you can'.
