I see the rain is back in the central belt is that Summer over?

I hear so many stories from my DC of teachers in high schools who don’t teach, members of the SMT hardly in the class as they are always off dealing with something, teachers who waffle on, teachers who miss parts of the course etc. I know in primary schools we are visited by the HT every so often to observe a lesson and give feedback, we also visit each other’s classes.

Justmuddlingalong · 08/06/2022 12:23

Today's rant.
Despite heaving no medical training whatsoever, I'm struggling to understand how DP's corn can be treated by the podiatrist via video call. He's diabetic and a bit gung-ho regarding his feet, so it's an effort to stop him self treating them. Sick to the back teeth of the lack of normality returning to the NHS.

mapleleavesreturn · 08/06/2022 12:47

Bloody hell, podiatry over the phone, whatever next!

Dinoteeth · 08/06/2022 13:02

Podiatry over the phone is nuts.

I could even support people being asked to do a LFT before entering a medical or other personal carers room, ie doctor, beautician, etc

Justmuddlingalong · 08/06/2022 13:09

I know. He's obviously a COVID superspreader event just waiting to happen. 🙄

It’s really nuts that this is still going on

Railing about the state of finances due to SG inemptness!
They over egged the amount from tax they could raise and now humongous holes latest being roads will be cut. Yet ferry fiasco, court battles and independence all finds money.

How the hell do they think they can manage independence when they can't balance the books now

Dinoteeth · 08/06/2022 14:05

We've known for ages covid doesn't really spread outdoors. All the BLM marches and all the folk on beaches in 2020 never caused too many issues.
But I can understand anyone who is giving personal care indoors wanting to be cautious.

Covid rattled our door this week, dodged it for two whole years. And LO brought it home from school.

Justmuddlingalong · 08/06/2022 14:24

I understand caution. But I can get my bikini line waxed, dental treatment, a tattoo or my eyebrows threaded. Non of which are done outdoors. Why is medical treatment so slow in picking up face to face appointments again. I'm not convinced this isn't how it's going to continue going forward.

CoralPaperweight · 08/06/2022 14:31

@Justmuddlingalong it makes me really cross to hear this is still going on. My dad's diabetic and has had awful feet over last 12 months. GP / practice nurse etc refused to see him (because of Covid) until it got to the stage he had massive infection / couldn't walk and has been under the care of the hospital podiatrist for the last 4 months going twice per week. Turns out problem likely stems from fact the GP removed his diabetic medication 12 months ago without a face to face review.

More doom and gloom - implicit tax rises to come here, but not enough to avoid 8 percent cuts to many service areas:

ifs.org.uk/publications/16074

'On the plans set out today, the axe is set to fall on a wide range of public service areas. Budgets for local government, the police, prisons, universities and rural affairs are due to fall by around 8% in real-terms over the next four years. Spending on enterprise, tourism and trade promotion is set to fall even further - by 16% in real terms over the same period.'

mapleleavesreturn · 08/06/2022 15:02

too much optimism on Scottish tax revenue, leading to more taxation and even so, worse funding, and that's leaving aside the carnage additional costs and spending cuts indy would bring..but never mind as the OECD says the UK is going to hell in a hand basket next year anyway, plus the whole nuclear war threat!!

Right, need the sun to come out now!

ScottishBeeswax · 08/06/2022 17:49

But I can understand anyone who is giving personal care indoors wanting to be cautious.

But HCPs have to provide people with treatment based on clinical need. "Wanting to be cautious" shouldn't come into it with healthcare! They are vaccinated and their patients are vaccinated. Covid numbers have drastically decreased but people have a host of other untreated medical problems. What are we waiting for now? Will podiatry remain by telephone forever

I dare say all the nurses working in hospital wards during 2020 would have preferred to be 'cautious' but that's not how it works with healthcare.

WouldBeGood · 08/06/2022 22:33

I don’t understand caution now. Just seems like slacking. Not seen in private businesses

Did anyone see our Transport Secretary losing it in parliament when questioned about the crap transport?!

mapleleavesreturn · 09/06/2022 15:23

I didn't see that but I'm amazed at Katie and Nicola's endless drivel today about sorting out the nhs and education - the results are always just around the corner, even after all this time...

Yes it was all over twitter last night. Why are these snp ministers just so aggressive when being questioned in parliament? So unprofessional and a total embarrassment. They should be able to put their point across without losing it. I wouldn't want her teaching my children with her attitude either(previously she was a high school teacher apparently).

Scottishskifun · 10/06/2022 01:04

I think it's a shame the convener stepped in to her rant think she would have shot herself in the foot even further and clearly she was rattled!
Public transport by us is a joke would love to see her walk the distances between train stops in the North East!

titsintiers · 10/06/2022 06:56

Morning railers. Been watching but not commenting much recently. Hope you're all ok.

I saw Jenny Gilruth, quite embarrassing for her. The public transport situation is a bloody disaster. She should be ashamed of herself.

ScottishBeeswax · 10/06/2022 16:39

Railing about having Gillian Evans and Jason Leitch back on radio again!

WouldBeGood · 11/06/2022 08:59

Hi, @titsintiers !

@ScottishBeeswax oh lord, what are they wittering about now?!

OP posts:
ScottishBeeswax · 11/06/2022 10:01

Rising covid cases @WouldBeGood
She was saying it could be start of the next wave blah blah blah.....
He was pushing vaccinations for those who haven't had 3rd/4th doses yet.
To be fair he wasn't at all doom and gloom but it just sets my teeth on edge now if any of them come on the radio!

WouldBeGood · 11/06/2022 10:18

Oh god, please no !!

Stroopwaffels · 11/06/2022 10:38

I think after two and a bit years they have carved out a nice wee niche for themselves as talking heads on the telly spouting doom and gloom. It's their whole raison d'etre, without their doom there is no point to their pathetic existence.

The pair of them must be a bundle of laughs at parties.

mapleleavesreturn · 11/06/2022 12:09

I saw that about rising covid cases, honestly it's enough to make you panic book Eurostar and go somewhere, anywhere whilst you still can!

mapleleavesreturn · 11/06/2022 12:10

Plus see also the strikes forecast for the return to school in august!
