Can I rail about the number of holiday/moving threads on scotsnet.

It feels like the actual Scots are not getting seen or heard on the board created for us

Yes! Social media 'journalism' (Edinburgh Live, Glasgow Live, etc) is awash with links to RightMove / stories about must-have houses at the moment though, so I do wonder if this is all targeted marketing by the industry to keep house prices up and keep things moving?

WouldBeGood · 30/05/2022 20:59

I thought they were usually propaganda?

Another rail rail. Surprise, surprise, apparently they’re putting on extra trains for the football on Wednesday.

Now, Im a football fan, but it’s just always the same. Culture and socialising and getting to work: the SG doesn’t care. Football- why, have some trains!

I rolled my eyes too, anything for football! Sod the commuters and their boring problems, they should all still be wfh anyway!

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 31/05/2022 08:43

a rail from DD who is transitioning to S4

She has been given a chemistry teacher who according to her pals "doesn't teach" and everyone in her class last year failed their N5

DD wants to request another class or teacher - can she, for simply not liking the teacher? I am saying to her to be nice and give the teacher a chance as rumours might be false but DD is really worried she will fail chemistry this year.

mapleleavesreturn · 31/05/2022 09:11

Hmmm can you around the parents if they've also heard this rumour and if there is any substance? You'd hope it meant the teacher got better support from the school if last year's class struggled...

I doubt based on my experience of state primary that asking will get anywhere!

Dinoteeth · 31/05/2022 10:53

The reason for the football trains is for a great big Scottish flag waving event. The sole reason for it.

NS hates football but like the hooligans of the past she is using it as a stage for her own ends.

I agree with @mapleleavesreturn. Find out if fact or perception? Could be a demotivated class post lockdown?

Honestly, I would push if you need to and advocate for your child.

And I wouldn't have said that 5 years ago.

We get requests like that all the time. They're almost always switched (as long as space allows). My school will do anything parents ask for.

😏Actual Scots?

I tend to notice lots and lots of people want to move to amazing Scotland, just when a bad ScotGov story hits the news🤔Looking at the headlines today, I’d say expect lots and lots of people now wanting to move to amazing Scotland despite all the cuts to services, because the environment will be saved by the city car charges here. Or some other BS spin on how Scotland, like the rest of the U.K. is pretty screwed for the foreseeable.

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 31/05/2022 22:06

Transition day today. DD got a change of chemistry teacher and she insists she didn't even ask, she says she got lucky and they gave her a different teacher to the one she feared. She also got her maths class changed (again without her asking, so she says) and the old class was going to contain her old school bully, so she's happy with the timetable she's been given.

Stroopwaffels · 06/06/2022 16:56

Wasn't it lovely to see Elsie McSelfie and husband in the Royal Box at the concert on Saturday night, her being such a confirmed monarchist and all.

Hypocritical much?

WouldBeGood · 06/06/2022 17:01

That’s really amused me @Stroopwaffels and it’s very much upset nationalist Twitter 🤣

Also the suggestion she’d got some work done rather than had covid, with the hash tag Plastic Sturgeon

*nb I’m not decrying anyone for getting work done, but the alleged secrecy and tag justvseeem like more of the usual

Elsie didn't look as though she was having a good time though. Anybody thinking Boris may be done for?

WouldBeGood · 06/06/2022 18:28

I’d be more excited if there was anyone better to replace him. I’d rather see a general election. They’re suggesting Liz Truss!! The mind boggles

Oh god I wish!!
Sadly I think he will survive

mapleleavesreturn · 06/06/2022 18:37

Surely it's Boris out, Rishi in? That dossier that is going round means this is a serious threat - I thought it was just window dressing to put party gate behind them but not so sure.

imstilljenny2 · 07/06/2022 07:03

I was initially happy he didn't go as I thought if he's the PM at the next general election the conservatives are finished and Labour will surely get a landslide victory. What will the SNP moan about once Labour are in Westminster?? Once the evil Toaries go NS will have no grievances and will have to concentrate on improving Scotland! However Rory Stewart is on GMB this morning saying at the next GE there may be a coalition with Labour and the SNP! WTF?

mapleleavesreturn · 07/06/2022 08:13

Reckon he's right, Boris has done so badly it's clear that he isn't going to recover from this, he's only holding on because most of the cabinet held firm.

A lib-lab pact would be more important, if that happened the SNP could ride the coat tails but not force the agenda. The parties on the left have long needed a new plan, Labour is essentially 2 parties now in any case.

Scianel · 07/06/2022 08:33

And bye-bye any final vestiges of sex-based protection nationally if that comes to pass.

WouldBeGood · 07/06/2022 08:35

Interesting take.

It’s difficult, I wouldn’t vote Labour if they were in a pact with the SNP.

i see the SG used the Boris kerfuffle to distract from the report that showed that minimum alcohol pricing resulted in poor people eating less and having heating on less. And no evidence it reduced drinking or dependence

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 07/06/2022 08:35

Quite, @Scianel

We will be extinct

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 07/06/2022 08:58

If it was a lib-lab pact, in reality the SNP would very likely vote with them anyway.

It's possible I'm just desperate to see an alternative to Boris!

The trouble is, the price the SNP would extract for supporting Lab/LibDem legislation would be a second referendum to break up the UK....and as others have said even just a Labour/LibDem coalition massively threatens women's sex-based rights and child safeguarding.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/06/2022 15:19

Agree, same old fraught choices!
