Are women in Scotland aware of how bad things have got?

I hang out on the Feminism board a lot, and I know not all MNetters care for that section. Which is fine. But I am continually appalled at how bad things are for women in Scotland - compared to England.

For example, this, from Feminism thread:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Please can any not-particularly-feminist women share how you feel about this?

If anyone on this thread read my comment you would see what we can do. Join a women’s group, write your MPs & MSPs, use your vote, speak to your political representatives if they turn up on your door step, let them know how unhappy you are about their stance on self ID & the hate crime bill.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 23:36

btw, moron isn't really an acceptable term to use nowadays, it's pretty offensive.

alicesfavouritepen · 03/02/2022 23:37

Feel free to report.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 23:38

What other parts of the question?

Can you really not scroll? I've posted the question twice.

Do you think Scotland is a good place for women? Are you supportive of the legislation, do you think it's okay to be visited by the police to check your thinking?

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 23:38

@alicesfavouritepen

Feel free to report.
I won't report. Maybe you just didn't understand?
alicesfavouritepen · 03/02/2022 23:40

No I don't think any of it is good. I don't think the way to address it is to make silly trans jokes.

Rhannion · 03/02/2022 23:40

Could the two of you stop arguing please? The issues are far more important than disagreements on this thread in my opinion.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 23:41

Anyway, I think this doesn't really contribute to the OP and I think this bickering stops other people posting. Lots of different user names that I've not seen before on threads in Scotsnet it would be a shame to put people off.

I'll say goodnight.

Agree Rhannion. I was typing when you posted yours.
alicesfavouritepen · 03/02/2022 23:42

Back to the echo chamber then! 🙄

Whitestarsonblue · 03/02/2022 23:47

Yes, I'm aware of what's been going on and it's extremely worrying. I already feel that I'm self-censoring, because I may unwittingly break the new hate crime law, by saying something about the trans "debate", and find myself arrested and with my house and computer being searched for inflammatory materials. And that makes me feel that I'm not living in a free country anymore. I'm living in one of those countries where you have to watch what you say in case you end up in prison. Like Saudi Arabia or something. Saudi Arabia is a theocracy. What's the name for a country like Scotland?

Lucienandjean · 03/02/2022 23:48

I'm afraid for the future of Scotland. It's becoming a hostile place to live if you are a woman, particularly a gender critical woman. I wonder what will happen to my granddaughters if the current proposed legislation goes through.

But I think most people in Scotland are oblivious. They must be, surely? How else to explain why so many people keep voting SNP?

Whitestarsonblue · 03/02/2022 23:56

My constituency has an SNP MP and I know that I can never contact them for help, regardless of the circumstances, because they're known as a nasty piece of work who spends their time slagging people off on Twitter for being terfs. And the SNP MSPs always vote as they're told to, regardless of the best interests of their constituents. Which doesn't seem very democratic either. If you contact them, you know you're talking into a vacuum. There's no end in sight, either.

I might be wrong here but I'm presuming you live in Stirling?

Is it the one who took a drag queen into a primary school to read to the children by any chance?
Toseland · 04/02/2022 00:27

Some really shocking things have been happening in Scotland - in the news for chilling hate crime laws and changing of the space allowable to protest outside the Scottish Parliament. It’s really quite scary. I cannot understand Nicola Sturgeon at all - that a woman is doing this and won’t understand.

I like to think that there are a lot of people like me who are reading the feminist section, rarely posting but learning and writing away to their nap’s, responding to consultations in the hope that we get listened to.

This.

I'm talking to friends and family and telling these stories. Tell a friend and ask them to tell a friend. Many Scottish women have no idea what's happening. Pass it on.

Rainbowshit · 04/02/2022 00:32

I'm absolutely furious and actually quite terrified at the way things are heading in Scotland. Feel like I'm in an episode of the handmaids tale or 1984 sometimes.

TheWaterNokk · 04/02/2022 01:29

That nursery being dragged through the papers on nothing but Humza’s say so. And Douglas Ross etc jumping in to support him. No due process or anything.

Turned out to be a big pile of shite.

Rhannion · 04/02/2022 01:37

Plus the bullying of Jo Cherry, and that ridiculous video of NS in a cupboard begging SNP supporters not to leave, the appalling & ridiculous census of children at school, the official government census questions which is on going, it’s never ending.

Rhannion · 04/02/2022 01:38

It suits her to think our concerns are “ not valid “ we are being bought and sold for Stonewall gold points. Burns had it right when he wrote “ Sic a parcel o’ rogues in the nation”
CanIPleaseHaveOne · 04/02/2022 02:24

@alicesfavouritepen

I don't think that the world is currently a good place for women. I think that this issue is horribly complex and yes I do believe that overall women's rights will suffer as a result of trans rights.

The fact that you don't recognise that MN is seen my so many as anti trans only highlights your ignorance on the subject and may go some way to explain your silly comments.

It is not complex at all.

It is easy.

Women

Men

Trans

Blessex · 04/02/2022 02:31

Oh Scotland is lost as long as you keep voting SNP. Women’s rights make me weep. You think independence is worth that?

Do you know of any women's groups in Moray by any chance? Only getting women's aid when googling.
