Are women in Scotland aware of how bad things have got?

I hang out on the Feminism board a lot, and I know not all MNetters care for that section. Which is fine. But I am continually appalled at how bad things are for women in Scotland - compared to England.

For example, this, from Feminism thread:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Please can any not-particularly-feminist women share how you feel about this?

@WouldBeGood

Agreed

I think I’ve said this before but I really do not understand why they’re so obsessed with this stuff, which should be a marginal concern.

No one really knows the answer, however there are theories; Sturgeon is very pally with the trans identifying man ( without any GRC) who is CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, Sturgeon wants to chase the youth vote with her ridiculous policies, she wants to go further with everything than Westminster does, she has her eye on a high paying job within Europe & she can then distance herself from the damage and possibly because she is absolute pathetic. 🤷🏻
Rhannion · 20/03/2022 18:26

And then there is are rumors of a “ lavender “ marriage, irons being thrown in hotel rooms, the “missing “ over six hundred thousand pounds that was ring fenced for independence campaigning etc, etc.

annabelindajane · 20/03/2022 20:52

Agree with all above . Am sure it’s just easy pickings . They don’t have the ability to sort the important things being second rate regional administrators so the big jobs are beyond their capabilities. They were also slaves to Stonewall . It’s an easy ticket being SNP government.Well paid and no opposition. Personally I think the UK govt should hold them to account for running Scotland down , but imagine the howls of protest .

Don't give them ideas. 🤣🤣

Birthingpersonwell, love it!!!

annabelindajane · 22/03/2022 07:53

We need one of these meetings in every town in Scotland.
Many busy people are vaguely aware of this legislation but can’t quite get their heads round it it and once they do it will be too late

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 08:43

The problem is that it sounds so crazy people just can’t believe it’s actually happening

I think this is a big part of the problem. Obviously a person with a penis isn't a woman, so you must have misunderstood/be overreacting. If the average person was aware that fully 'intact' males could be allowed unfettered access to changing rooms with your teenage daughter, or wards with your elderly mother, that the usual checks and balances were being stripped away, and what's more if anyone complains they will be guilty of a hate crime, there would be up roar. But it sounds too outlandish to be true so people dismiss it as exaggeration.
mapleleavesreturn · 22/03/2022 10:39

Also nobody expects to be raped on a busy nhs women's ward, or end up in a women's prison, these possibilities all seem unlikely. Nobody expects their children to self identify as another gender either and have the school overstepping boundaries it's all too remote to worry about until is isn't.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/03/2022 11:16

At least this Lea Thomas story seems to be getting a bit of traction and is bringing some of these issues into the public eye. This is the trans swimmer who was a mediocre male swimmer for a while but is now suddenly number 1 now that they're competing in women's tournaments. Apparently this person is still 'intact' too, as there's a headline today saying that 'she' is making her teammates uncomfortable by not always covering up her male genitalia in the changing rooms (quite apart from the fairness issues of someone going through male puberty competing against women). What we basically have here is a male competing against females (and winning, unsurprisingly), and changing in female changing rooms making others uncomfortable. If this person decided that they felt like a 'man' this would be completely unacceptable, but because this person apparently feels like a 'woman' we must fawn over their every whim and any females objecting are branded bigots and transphobes. Surely that must raise a few eye brows.

BinBandit · 22/03/2022 15:25

Also this story which is based in the states but it's about the way it's reported:

Rhannion · 27/03/2022 02:48

Have a look at the feminist section and see what the Scottish Police are up to now regarding Nicola Murray, the woman who started Brodie’s Trust for women who lost children due to male violence.

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2022 08:54

I saw that on Twitter @Rhannion… terrifying

Rhannion · 27/03/2022 14:45

It’s absolutely ridiculous what is going on up here. Some days I don’t recognize my country.

Waitwhat23 · 27/03/2022 22:27

Police Scotland deem boys sending hard core porn to minors and weird stalking videos of the lassies just going about their daily business as 'banter'? What the fuck? And Nicola was called a bitch when she reported it.

Police Scotland are institutionally misogynist and hate women.

Honestly, where do people find the time to come up with such tripe about Scotland's school. Threads on mumsnet started by individuals who don't even live in the country, whole websites dedicated to nonsense re Scotland's education system. Bizarre.

"We also fiercely object to training offered to schools by lobby groups which asserts that certain personality traits, characteristics, interests or hobbies are typical of girls whilst others are typical of boys. Such training dictates that children who conform to these gender stereotypes are to be labelled ‘cis’, whilst children who do not conform are labelled ‘trans’ and should ‘transition’ in order to meet societal expectations."

Obviously (I am a teacher ).
Okay, are there ANY teachers on mumsnet who have been trained to refer to children as transition if they don't conform to traditional gender stereotypes?? I'll bet my pension there aren't .
What a load of utter bollocks.

ScotsLass1 · 31/03/2022 19:51

Waitwhat23 · 31/03/2022 21:07

As I can't be arsed to go into the whole 'socially transitioning' thing which was discussed fairly early on in this thread.

On another note -

Here's a reply from a SNP Councillor in response to an invitation to a public meeting to discuss women's rights in Motherwell -

'Good afternoon,

I am delighted to advise that I will not be attending your meeting where you state you will discuss Gender Recognition reform but do not advertise any transgender speakers, just as I would not attend a meeting about disabled issues where none of the invited speakers had lived experience of disability.

As Gender Recognition reform is a matter for UK and Scottish Parliament legislation in which local councils have no locus, I can only assume that the purpose of your email is to identify those who support trans rights and add them to one of your wee lists – Hi!

You know very well that the proposed reforms to the GRA do not offer new rights to trans people nor do they remove rights from any women. “The potential effect on children and young people from the proposed gender recognition reform” is very emotive isn’t it? Especially when you consider that the proposed legislation does not include any changes to the rights of children.

You do not speak for me. I support the rights of all women.

To be clear, please feel free to add me to your so-called ‘women’s rights campaign’s’ list of women candidates that you intend to encourage your ‘gender critical’ associates not to vote for in the council elections.

Wishing you the day you deserve

Councillor Janine Calikes (She/her)'

This is an elected representative.
