Are women in Scotland aware of how bad things have got?

I hang out on the Feminism board a lot, and I know not all MNetters care for that section. Which is fine. But I am continually appalled at how bad things are for women in Scotland - compared to England.

For example, this, from Feminism thread:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Please can any not-particularly-feminist women share how you feel about this?

@ScotsLass1

Honestly, where do people find the time to come up with such tripe about Scotland's school. Threads on mumsnet started by individuals who don't even live in the country, whole websites dedicated to nonsense re Scotland's education system. Bizarre.

"We also fiercely object to training offered to schools by lobby groups which asserts that certain personality traits, characteristics, interests or hobbies are typical of girls whilst others are typical of boys. Such training dictates that children who conform to these gender stereotypes are to be labelled ‘cis’, whilst children who do not conform are labelled ‘trans’ and should ‘transition’ in order to meet societal expectations."

I live in this country and have as much right as you to comment on what is happening to women and children in Scotland. Are you aware that some schools on Scotland have mixed sex toilets? Have they managed bring that ridiculous idea into your school yet?

@Waitwhat23

As I can't be arsed to go into the whole 'socially transitioning' thing which was discussed fairly early on in this thread.

On another note -

Here's a reply from a SNP Councillor in response to an invitation to a public meeting to discuss women's rights in Motherwell -

'Good afternoon,

I am delighted to advise that I will not be attending your meeting where you state you will discuss Gender Recognition reform but do not advertise any transgender speakers, just as I would not attend a meeting about disabled issues where none of the invited speakers had lived experience of disability.

As Gender Recognition reform is a matter for UK and Scottish Parliament legislation in which local councils have no locus, I can only assume that the purpose of your email is to identify those who support trans rights and add them to one of your wee lists – Hi!

You know very well that the proposed reforms to the GRA do not offer new rights to trans people nor do they remove rights from any women. “The potential effect on children and young people from the proposed gender recognition reform” is very emotive isn’t it? Especially when you consider that the proposed legislation does not include any changes to the rights of children.

You do not speak for me. I support the rights of all women.

To be clear, please feel free to add me to your so-called ‘women’s rights campaign’s’ list of women candidates that you intend to encourage your ‘gender critical’ associates not to vote for in the council elections.

Wishing you the day you deserve

Councillor Janine Calikes (She/her)'

This is an elected representative.

That woman is clearly a bloody fool!

How dare you?!? I am a parent of children who are attending school in Scotland and I have huge concerns about many aspects of the gender nonsense that has infected Scottish schools.

Don't think for a second that we are going to shut up about it.

Well said @Rainbowshit . Thousands of women are behind you from across the UK.

I don’t think there’s any question that LGBTYS (and by extension ScotGov) are doing their best to ensure GNC adolescents are brought under the trans umbrella, eg through including GNC teens (doesn’t say gender questioning, just GNC) in this “Trans family learning programme”, with links to teachers, just before lockdown.
