Are women in Scotland aware of how bad things have got?

I hang out on the Feminism board a lot, and I know not all MNetters care for that section. Which is fine. But I am continually appalled at how bad things are for women in Scotland - compared to England.

For example, this, from Feminism thread:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Please can any not-particularly-feminist women share how you feel about this?

Do it, not donut 🙄 Though now I fancy one

ResilienceWanker · 02/03/2022 18:37

Mmmm, donuts Grin Damn you Lent...

What is the thinking behind the paper version? It it just to piss them off because they have to actually look at/ input the data themselves? I know FWS are asking for it, but I haven't seen any organised response/ what to write? Or have I missed something? I've asked for a paper one, but don't know what I'll do with it when it arrives!

To be fair, I'm annoyed about a load of the questions, having looked at the question set - not just the sex/ trans ones. It doesn't have UK as a possible place of birth, and is asking me to identify as "other British" as my ethnic group, and I'm not... I'm just British. Could identify as a "showman/show woman" in the same question though, so I'm tempted to do that! That sounds much more fun...

Waitwhat23 · 02/03/2022 18:47

I think FWS are still considering the possible response. I've seen a few people say that they're going to put 'believing biology' for the write in religion question but I don't think that's come from anywhere in particular.

AFAIK, the idea behind requesting the paper copy is that there is more scope to add information/statements than through the online copy. Though making it all a bit more difficult for Census Scotland is a bonus.

ResilienceWanker · 02/03/2022 19:23

Thanks waitwhat! That's what I thought. I'm sure they're coming up with something good as we speak...

Not sure about the "believing biology" thing. Its not really a religion... and my actual faith group isn't there, so I'd have to use that box to write that in too!

Though it sounds as if this census is all about how you want to be identified, rather than who you actually are, so I'm perfectly up for identifying as a gaelic speaking lion tamer of Caribbean origin...

ResilienceWanker · 02/03/2022 19:32

(also, given the SGs previous history with protecting our data, and the number of times they've been ticked off by the ICO for their lax approach to GPDR, I'm not too keen to trust them with my actual data, DCs schools etc. Call me Ms Paranoid if you must...)

@WouldBeGood

I’m making the men I know do that too, *@rhiannon* 🤣

Shared it on sm too in case anyone wants to donut.

Please do! Add any “ females” including pets too. Believing in Biology is one of the ideas, also writing upside down & using glitter pens, folding the paper mean that a person has to read the paper instead of a machine.
Rhannion · 02/03/2022 21:35

No stickers on the census forms themselves, but the envelope is another story...

Rhannion · 02/03/2022 21:38

Remember it’s all about a snapshot of your life and how you “ feel” on the day, so if you happen to have 20 women in your home at day, they all should be counted.
The Scottish government have screwed women over up here so payback is due.

annabelindajane · 04/03/2022 10:40

Just sent for the paper copy . Such a good idea

Pleased to see JKR tweeting in support of those rightly appalled at what Shona Robison said a couple of days ago.

Please buy the Daily Record on Tuesday as there is an advert about international women’s day.

LizzieMacQueen · 07/03/2022 14:47

Nicola Sturgeon was interviewed on the World at One today, 5 minutes before the end, if anyone's interested in listening it'll be on BBC sounds.

Rhannion · 09/03/2022 16:04

Please fill the the Women and Equities committee questionnaire that I’ve mentioned in AIBU. A kind woman has posted the link as I’m unsure how to plus time is short as it closes TOMORROW so they have basically given us 3 fucking days to respond which is bloody ridiculous and insulting

LizzieMacQueen · 10/03/2022 15:46

@Rhannion

Here's the thread you were talking about.

Thanks. I've put the protection of single sex spaces as a vital safety measure for women and girls in the 'other' box (since sex wasn't mentioned at all in the list). I'm sure at the very least we've all disappeared into the ladies at some point in our lives to escape an uncomfortable situation, and it's vital these kinds of things remain for females only.

Rhannion · 10/03/2022 16:35

Please fill in the questionnaire in the link by Lizzie above 👆

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2022 17:10

Done. I put the same as @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

beastlyslumber · 10/03/2022 19:58

I've submitted a few responses.

Here’s Maggie Chapman warning us of how she may well behave outwith Parliament. Charming:

“I cannot promise to maintain that tone when I am not in a parliamentary committee or in the Chamber because … well, I know I won’t so there’s no point in trying to promise it …um … I will lose the plot at some point, I’m sure.”

Thank you for both above posts . The SNP need to apply attention to economy , health and education instead of these vanity projects

Maggie Chapman has such an appropriate name and she has already lost the plot!

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2022 11:44

Agreed

I think I’ve said this before but I really do not understand why they’re so obsessed with this stuff, which should be a marginal concern.

She really has lost the plot. Completely swallowed the kool-aid and she knows she's in the wrong. People get absolutely enraged when they know they don't have a good reason for spouting the shite that they do. It pricks their conscience and so they lash out.
