Are women in Scotland aware of how bad things have got?

I hang out on the Feminism board a lot, and I know not all MNetters care for that section. Which is fine. But I am continually appalled at how bad things are for women in Scotland - compared to England.

For example, this, from Feminism thread:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Please can any not-particularly-feminist women share how you feel about this?

Kaye Adams had a brief discussion on the radio this morning about the recent BBC survey on upcoming GRA reforms.

The political correspondent was stating that this was going to get much more (needed - he didn't quite say this though certainly implied) discussion in the run up to the bill.

Debbie Hayton and Sophie Grace Chappell also on to say their bit. The casual uninterested listener may have been slightly educated by SGC insisting they weren't male...

Sadly DH only discussed safeguarding in a vague way, no reference to refuges, prisons, sports etc etc which was a dropped ball, so to speak.

About 2 and a half hours in.

Not bloody “ Sophie Grace “ again! Although letting “ Sophie” speak hopefully may peak a few, especially if they take a look at photos of “ Sophie Grace “ in their Alice in Wonderland mode.

Rhannion · 21/02/2022 15:26

Yet again BBC Radio Scotland have men discussing something that affects women 🤬🤬🤬and Kaye Adams is spineless & pathetic.

Well at least we know when now, so we roll up our sleeves and push back harder. Women Won’t Wheest 💚🤍💜

This is truly despicable: they know it’s so unpopular that they have to do it in a sleekit way, but press on anyway. How is this acceptable?

The misogyny is frightening

It's their form. They are masters of facing both ways. They are populist and will frame themselves as being forward thinking and progressive whilst also the defenders of women's rights - ignoring women prisoners, women's sports and any vulnerable women and children. They get away with it. The fact that Nicola Sturgeon didn't care for the rights of a female rape victim not wanting a male bodied doctor examining her says all you need to know about NS. It is so depressing.
Rodedooda · 23/02/2022 10:52

This is awful. I too don't know what else to say.

Fair play for women are in court in Edinburgh today appealing Census decision. Gardening still needed.

This is from a mum in Scotland about her 7 year old daughter being taught that men can become girls:

There was a man from Stirling prosecuted for putting a camera in a unisex toilet a couple of months ago. It didn't say but I guess it was a small cafe with only one toilet. It happens in non unisex toilets as well but this law will just embolden these people even more.
But Mhairi Black thinks I am just pathetic being concerned. She's all right Jack, her position as a privileged career politician on the SNP gravy train means I don't have much faith in her opinion on my and many many other people/children actual experiences.

Yeah, that's not in the Scottish curriculum. Honestly, I highky doubt that a teacher decided to tell a class of 7 year olds that 'genitals can be cut off ' as is the quote from the thread. People can write anything on the internet.

*highly

Leafstamp · 27/02/2022 15:59

You’re very defensive @StarryEyeSurprise.

Do you think it’s possible that the teacher mentioned “men who become girls"? Or do you think that the teaching profession is somehow immune from having people who are at best very confused about gender and transgender people, and at worst are staunch trans rights activists?

The line in Scottish schools is the fantasy that one can change sex

Waitwhat23 · 28/02/2022 18:41

Finally had a reply, several months later, from one of my MSP's, to my email regarding the GRA reforms and my concerns about the erosion of single sex spaces.

The whole thing is a mastery of word salad but the final paragraph is particularly telling -
'Finally, I make it clear that all people are human beings – regardless of race, religious view, sexual orientation or gender - and people should be treated as such.'

Funnily enough, sex isn't mentioned.

What a surprise.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2022 19:44

Oh! I got mine today too @Waitwhat23!

Railed back, into the wind no doubt but makes me feel better

You've said that you don't live in Scotland. Yet, you're taking the time to write in an internet forum, about what ( you believe) educators are doing in the classrooms in Scotland.

It's very bizarre.

Leafstamp · 01/03/2022 16:51

@StarryEyeSurprise

Whilst I have indeed said that I don't live in Scotland, you have no idea about my connection to Scottish classrooms and haven't answered my questions.

It's very bizarre.

I wondered if the questions on the so called ‘SNP sex survey’ have been discussed. I think it’s overly intrusive.

Ok, what's your connection- are you an educator?

Leafstamp · 02/03/2022 10:25

@StarryEyeSurprise you said yourself that anyone can say anything on the internet. Why would you believe what I say in terms of my connection to Scottish classrooms versus what the other MN poster said about what's going on in Scottish classrooms?

I did try asking about this but you still haven't answered:

I’m not sure what my 90 year old mother in law is going to make of this census , I await her comments .

Various friends and neighbours suggesting it’s overly intrusive and some of them are not going to answer quite a few of the questions .

Rhannion · 02/03/2022 16:57

Just make sure every woman you know gets a paper version, please don’t fill it in online.
We got our letter today which gives you a code which you can then use to order a paper version.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2022 17:41

I’m making the men I know do that too, @rhiannon 🤣

Shared it on sm too in case anyone wants to donut.
