I'm in the car reading a few threads where folks are fed up with the misery and fighting so thought I'd start a new thread. Not for politics or covid or fighting , just general stuff 🙂

I've had a nice day, off work on hols so we took a wee drive down to Peebles and had lunch, bought a few pies from lovely butcher and now heading home.

I just tell them I want something amazing. 🤣

prettybird · 14/11/2021 22:13

On nice topics I made some of my mother's mother's lovely ice cream yesterday as the prodigal son was down for a couple of nights (came down for the rugby less said the better Wink): it's a tub of double cream, a wee bit of milk, a tin of condensed milk (Shock), an egg and some vanilla essence/paste, whipped together, frozen, then whipped again and frozen again.

Yummy Smile - especially when served with Maltesers Grin

I had some more tonight but tomorrow I'm fully back on my HFLC Way of Eating (fell off the wagon feeling sorry for myself while I had Covid Blush)

ElephantOfRisk · 14/11/2021 22:13

Even that ends up too much hassle @ssd. DH is allergic so can only use simple soap so if I want anything else I need to keep it in a soap dish and remember to take it in the shower with me and then drain and dry it after. It's easier just to use the simple soap.

sounds lovely @prettybird.

Ah yes, that would be an idea @wouldbegood but it ends up being a waste of money. Since he forgot my birthday this year he wants something substantial.

ElephantOfRisk · 14/11/2021 22:20

What I actually want is a handheld vacuum for the car and/or a handheld steamer.

Apparently neither of those are appropriate gifts.

WouldBeGood · 14/11/2021 22:21

I should say @ElephantOfRisk my demands are unlikely to succeed 🤣

WouldBeGood · 14/11/2021 22:21

But I figure I do enough thinking of everyone else’s gifts 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, me too but I do appreciate that I am impossible to buy for. I'm honestly perfectly happy with a couple of bars of chocolate, a book and new slippers. I think though that even after all our years together he still doesn't quite believe me.

To be honest, I like choosing presents most of all. Shopping is one of my few skills

ElephantOfRisk · 14/11/2021 22:50

Me too. Although since I've been ill I really struggle to make decisions so I'm finding that quite hard. I have some lovely things for DS2 and the novelty of buying some things for his girlfriend hasn't worn off. DS1 is like me, he's hard to buy for, has most stuff that he wants already and lives quite simply - and isn't into clothes at all. I have some ideas for DH but I have to spread them over his birthday and Christmas.

Does anyone know what it's like not to be tired? And if you do, how do you get there? Am sick of feeling like a zombie.

In happier thoughts, I've managed to get washing on the line today and I'm fairly confident it will get 80% dry.

shouldistop · 15/11/2021 12:26

@GrouchyKiwi I've found since I've been doing more exercise I've been more energetic. It's a struggle making myself do it some days though but I always feel better afterwards.

Usually I've finished my Christmas shopping by now but I just started yesterday. Dh and I are only getting each other small things from the kids this year. I've been on zero pay since august and dh income halved due to Covid / IR35 / the economy so we're being more careful. We're having our overnight trip to Edinburgh so that's our gift to each other.

So far I've bought a tuff tray for ds1 to play with his Lego in, a big pack of plain Lego bricks, new play doh and a remote control lightening McQueen that he's been on about for months.

It's the baby's birthday in December so I've bought him some light up sensory ball things that I think he'll love as he's been practising throwing a lot lately Grin some baby books, stacking cups, shape sorter & squeaky eggs. I'll split it between birthday & Christmas.
Dh will probably have something he wants to buy for ds1 for Christmas too.

We have my nephews birthday in December, godsons & two second cousins that we're close to. Expensive month Sad

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2021 12:58

I agree with @shouldistop on the exercise/activity to help with tiredness @GrouchyKiwi. even if I’m truly knackered (and I’m old) if I force myself out to do something it really helps.

@RaraRachael

I rang the helpline after trying unsuccessfully to get the app to work. I managed to download the certificate which has QR codes on it. The lady at the helpline was great.
I rang and yes they were helpful (though a 30 minute wait in the call queue). I downloaded a PDF to my phone, so I have something to show; i'd still rather just use the app though...😕 The helpline adviser said that, because its a technical issue and not an incorrect record issue, I had to contact NSS, she gave me their email address. Not ideal tbf, ive emailed them so just have to wait for a response.
RaraRachael · 15/11/2021 17:24

GaolBhoAlba I hope you've more luck emailing NSS than I have. I've now sent 2 messages, just in case the first one didn't work, but have had no reply as yet. I'm not that bothered as I have something on my phone to show (as I'd heard the paper copies were sometimes not acceptable), but I'd like to know why it won't work on my phone.

Oh jeez thats not good 😣 I wont hold my breath for a reply from NSS...! Is your issue the same as mine (ie updated on the international section of the app, but not on the Scotland section)?

Its really annoying how poorly implemented the whole thing is 😡 There are apparently thousands having issues with one thing or another! I took my Dad for his booster, and they had no record of his second jab, and the wrong location of administration on his first. My Dad doesnt go to big events now, but if they extend the pass to smaller venues i'm worried he'll have an issue, through no fault of his own, getting a pass 😕

dementedpixie · 15/11/2021 21:11

www.nhsinform.scot/vaccinebooking

Portal now open for over 50 vaccine booster booking. I'm too young for it just yet Grin

prettybird · 15/11/2021 22:09

They'll be assuming that I can get my Covid booster when I get my flu jag on 25 November as it will be 25 weeks from my 2nd jag - but I can't have it because it will only be 3 weeks since I tested positive for Covid Sad Ditto with dh.

On the positive side, at least I am getting my flu jag this year Smile, after never being called, or even able to try to book, last year even though I was 59 Confused

And in other good news, I'm feeling much better and water no longer tastes metallic Grin Dh and I went for a walk this afternoon around Maxwell Park and saw the female mandarin duck, who we hadn't seen for months.

dementedpixie · 15/11/2021 22:13

Could you amend your appointment to a later date. Think its 4weeks after covid you can have the booster

prettybird · 15/11/2021 22:36

I'm not going to delay my flu jag - like all immunisations, they take a week or so to activate and it's already getting late in the winter season to get one.

Fortunately, the immunisation centre is not too far from where we live, so it's not a big deal to go back there. Smile

dementedpixie · 15/11/2021 22:53

Ds got the nasal flu vaccine at school last week. First time it's been offered at secondary school

dementedpixie · 15/11/2021 22:54

I seem to be designated driver for my family to get to the vaccination centre as they don't drive and Ravenscraig has terrible travel links

shouldistop · 16/11/2021 06:47

I think the experts are expecting a bad flu season. It's a bit frustrating that ds1 isn't getting his until the start of December, far too late IMO. Dh isn't getting his until December too.

What's everyone's plans today? MIL is coming round at 11.30 to give the baby his lunch, play with him and try to put him down for his afternoon nap at 2. I'm going to do the housework in peace Grin

ssd · 16/11/2021 08:33

I got my flu jag in local Boots, £14.99..about a month ago. Hate needles and couldn't do 2 jags together Shock

ssd · 16/11/2021 08:38

Glad you're feeling better @prettybird
