Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

@Bytheloch dear god, was it full on tartan shortbread braveheart stuff..? I can’t bear to look

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 16:26

For a lot of people the immediate financial situation just isn't the only issue.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 16:36

@SoMuchForSummerLove my issues are the catastrophic financial consequences of independence; the restrictions on my liberty flowing from independence; the Hate Crime Bill; the GRA; the attempts to wipe out women; education; disproportionately poverty in Scotland; the drugs deaths; and health care, particularly mental health services.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 16:39

It's so hard because people like us have concerns on a range of issues, and usually there's a party who comes closest to our views, but this time I don't know there is a party I could trust to represent me.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 17:11

There’s not for me @SoMuchForSummerLove because of the woman thing. I’d prefer to vote Labour but I think I’m going to vote tactically to try to ensure the SNP/Greens don’t exercise unfettered control of the Parliament.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 17:34

I think for me that would mean voting Tory which is not an option.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 17:40

I’m struggling with it @SoMuchForSummerLove

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 17:49

I'd rather spoil my paper with ADULT HUMAN FEMALE tbh and I think spoiling papers is a load of old wank Grin

Iwouldratherbesailing · 03/05/2021 17:57

I’m not voting Tory, I don’t have to. But I would if it was the best option for beating the SNP. I am not a fan of Douglas Ross. He seems as shifty as Nicola and Alex. And Boris seems unbelievably corrupt. Brexit is horrendous but a walk in the park compared to independence.

I object to the independence supporters that think that if you are anti independence you are automatically a Tory. People are capable of seeing the flaws in the SNP and the Tories at the same time!

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 18:23

Yes, quite @Iwouldratherbesailing.

I despise Boris et al and Douglas Ross too.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 18:25

Agree @Iwouldratherbesailing

Similarly I object to people writing off independence supporters as either followers of a cult, or too ignorant to understand the impact, or both. I see it on here a lot and it's such lazy narrow thinking.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 18:28

I personally think that independence is more of an ideology than being against it is, and so the practicalities are not the main concern of some supporters, rather achieving self determination.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 18:29

I say that as the partner of an ideological Indy supporter. 😃

(Though he’s not voting SNP cos the other issues).

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 18:45

Agree, but I don't necessarily see that as a negative thing, it just is what it is.
Iwouldratherbesailing · 03/05/2021 18:47

I think some people don’t mind losing everything or feel life can’t get much worse so are voting Indy. I can see that. I just think we should have facts fully explained before the referendum instead of being lied to like brexit

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 19:01

I do agree that the full facts should be known.

Scottishskifun · 03/05/2021 19:06

@Roonerspismed

I can’t stand labour due to their wokeness but loathe the SNP more (and don’t get my started on their attitude to women).

So it’s labour for me, through gritted teeth, as my seat is marginal.

Don’t understand the second vote but think will vote wacky.

The second vote is for party seats rather than candidates. Typically these tend to be a more mix bag rather than full blown conclusions hence they go on about it.

I'm going labour this time don't agree with a referendum whihh will cost millions just to even run the voting process when so many people have lost jobs and businesses!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 19:13

I think Brexit broke peoples' trust in facts, and because everyone sees their own tailored social media feed of facts that support their existing beliefs...facts are never going to be all that important in politics ever again.

Albacross · 03/05/2021 19:57

I’ll be voting purely as an anti-independence vote. same as I have for every single vote for the last 10 years. Would love to be able to vote on policies one day.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 20:15

Same here, from the other side! This year it's the other issues that are tripping me up.

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 03/05/2021 20:53

Is anyone voting SNP? Is anyone brave enough to admit they are voting SNP?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 03/05/2021 21:21

Well I've voted for them for a decade. But I probably won't this time.

I think people should be embarrassed to vote Tory but there you go...

lovelyupnorth · 03/05/2021 21:23

It's always the least worst option when voting. They're all a bunch of bastards.

But if I was in Scotland SNP all the way. As would want to be back in the EU and fuck up Johnson.

WouldBeGood · 03/05/2021 21:25

@lovelyupnorth Mm, but absolutely no guarantee we’d get in, plus a hard border with England would be problematic. Too many unknowns.

forfucksakenett · 03/05/2021 21:35

I am @Helensburghmiddleagedmum
