Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

I've just been and I have to say I went a bit blurry eyed at the party paper, there were about 15 different ones on it. Free pencil though 😏

MissBarbary · 06/05/2021 14:18

@Morgan12

Well done for spoiling your vote. May aswell have stayed home no?

I'm voting whoever I need to for independence.

I'm voting whoever it takes to defeat separatism.
GrouchyKiwi · 06/05/2021 14:30

We managed to go out between rain showers. There's a play park next to our polling place so the children had fun while DH and I took turns walking the dog/voting.

It is done. I hope next time it's a more positive feeling but I don't hold out much hope.

@Jacopo

If I put an X in the snp box and then write beside it “I support women’s rights so this is NOT a vote for the SNP candidate” is there a chance it might go in the heap of ambiguous votes that the candidates have to argue for? Marginal seat here.
I know someone else said it should be counted as spoiled but I'm not sure - I think if you place an X in the correct place that candidate can argue that the text is outweighed by conforming to voting "norms". I'd do something slightly different like put a word (no?) in the box.

Any count in Scotland I've been to all papers that are being discarded are shown to the agents/candidates. The blank ones get fired through but the rest are shown individually.

RaspberryCoulis · 06/05/2021 14:53

I think the ambiguous/spoiled papers would only be looked at if it was close. If you have Candidate A on 20k votes and Candidate B on 10k votes, then a couple of dozen spoiled papers is neither here nor there.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 15:38

I think there are no good choices if you want to vote against separatism to be honest. There's a divide, and it wasn't created by the SNP, it's always existed. For every 'NS always wants to go one better than Boris' there's a quote from Boris disparaging Scots and Scotland.

not my experience and I've been at counts in three different local authorities for local/holyrood/general elections. none were city areas so maybe it is different there but I wouldn't have thought so...
SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 17:20

Queuing to get in and still no idea who I'm voting for.

Also they've changed the venue and now we're all crammed indoors. More than I've ever seen it in the usual place. So stupid!

zizl · 06/05/2021 17:25

Done. First time I've been in my son's school since before the pandemic, strange times!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 17:54

Same! Felt very odd.

ScotlandUnited · 06/05/2021 17:55

voted. labour and Tory. Parents, DH and Inlaws voted the same.

Fuck me, that was a long list to choose from!

Also, did not think the polling table was that private and my vote could be easily seen. My DM felt the same at her polling place too.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/05/2021 17:57

SNP and Alba for the list. Pro independence.
I will NEVER EVER EVER vote Tory.

charliebrown59 · 06/05/2021 18:02

I had the same thought about the 'secret' ballot - we've gotten blasé about that part.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 18:06

I voted SNP then spoiled my paper for the local candidates.

I wrote NO in the box for the SNP candidate then wrote WOMAN: ADULT HUMAN FEMALE.

I don't feel good about any of it.

charliebrown59 · 06/05/2021 18:13

Time for a glass of wine? Well I'm applauding those of you that made a stance over the HCB and spoiled your ballot, I hope at least the press pick that up.

ScotlandUnited · 06/05/2021 18:33

will there be an exit poll or something like that?

RedactedTaeFeck · 06/05/2021 18:39

Bytheloch · 06/05/2021 18:48

Is someone up for starting a new thread- e.g. Election Results- to cater for our emotional responses tomorrow?

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/05/2021 18:53

Won't be needed until Sat or Sun .

RedactedTaeFeck · 06/05/2021 18:56

There is an election thread further down somewhere.

Majority of seats should be out tomorrow but about 20 (I think) aren't expected until Saturday.

Bytheloch · 06/05/2021 18:57

Family member involved on council side, late tomorrow afternoon towards teatime is expected for first results.

Bytheloch · 06/05/2021 18:59

Thanks @RedactedTaeFeck yes, it’s bumped right down.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/05/2021 19:12

Took a pen with me this morning.

forfucksakenett · 06/05/2021 19:13

In a big queue. Lots of anti Tory chat.
