Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

People have valid reasons for spoiling their paper with a particular message @Morgan12

ATieLikeRichardGere · 06/05/2021 09:48

I voted for independence in the referendum but I think the lack of opposition to the SNP has led to some strange echo chamber policies and overall strategy therefore my rationale this time is to vote tactically for the most likely to succeed opposition in my area. The outcome I hope for is balance. It took me until
yesterday to decide this as they are all shit. My other plan was not to vote.

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/05/2021 11:09

The make up of Holyrood is such that it requires consent across nearly all parties for laws to pass. From this thread, most are voting for Douglas Ross to be FM. Sigh. The Tories haven't been in power in Scotland since the '50s but .. well , we'll find out over the weekend.

Hobnob39 · 06/05/2021 11:17

@StarryEyeSurprise - I will be VERY surprised if Douglas Ross becomes FM - you have to remember this thread is not representative of the whole voting population, it's a thread with people who on the whole are disenfranchised by the whole thing - sadly (IMO - as I think it's good to be voting to have a more balanced government) there is currently a huge number of SNP voters who are not questioning who to vote for at all and the SNP will win this election unless there is a massive upset, it's just a case of by how much.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/05/2021 11:19

Voted at 7am. Saw a Mickey mouse green party slotted in on the voting paper. Tut tut🙄

GrouchyKiwi · 06/05/2021 11:22

Weather is atrocious here (started out well), neatly encapsulating my mood.

DH and I will be voting after lunch, holding our noses for Least Worst options. I long for the days when I can actually vote FOR something that I care about, instead of against something else.

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/05/2021 11:24

I think the bad weather could result in a low turnout and people that would have voted SNP might not bother voting as they may assume others will. Time will tell.

WouldBeGood · 06/05/2021 11:27

@GrouchyKiwi and @ATieLikeRichardGere exactly my feelings.

I actually feel better now I’ve done it though: feel like I’ve struck a blow no matter how unpalatable.

Lunch out with my boy in a bit so a better rest of day!

Selkiesarereal · 06/05/2021 11:34

I have been on the bbc and apparently they can also report on the appearance of the leaders when they cast their vote along with the weather.
I wonder if they will go for sharp business attire, business casual or just casual?
Weather still dreich here but at least no snow!

Same could be said about older Tory voters too I suppose.
SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 11:45

I totally don't get people who don't vote because it's rainy! I can't imagine begin a fair weather voter (says she who doesn't have a clue how she's voting of course...) Grin

Oh I do hope so. Conservative voters are supposed to be traditionally better at turning out in bad weather.

I think traditionally Tories are not put off by the weather- possibly because more likely to have a car /afford a taxi?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 12:13

All I know is that in the West Wing they said left wing voters vote late, and right wing voters vote early come rain hail or shine Grin

Scottishskifun · 06/05/2021 12:16

Just been took me 3 times as long to get there and I couldn't put my mask on with the breathlessness luckily my asthma pump and chamber are in my pocket so that was shown to allow entry!

Glad I voted but it's exhausted me!

The weather isn't bad in the North East. I was the youngest person at the polling station by about 30 years but thats also related to the time I went I think!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 12:30

You've had a really shitty time of it Sad

Yeah just unlucky to get a moderate case at my age! Plus side I'm a walking advert for my friends and their vaccines! 3 have said to me they weren't sure about the vaccine and then seeing how ill I am and how slow the recovery is they are now just hoping they get a date soon!
SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 12:51

Well that's a bit of a crappy silver lining, but at least you can see one Smile

I'm sorry, but Aaron Sorkin is never wrong.

Magnificentmug12 · 06/05/2021 13:16

They are all shit. I’m not voting this time around.

WouldBeGood · 06/05/2021 14:04

Posh people go out in all weathers 😂

titsintiers · 06/05/2021 14:09

Well, pretty sure there are some aged Tory voters where I live who might not. I suppose Tory doesn't necessarily mean posh though.

mermaidsariel · 06/05/2021 14:10

I'm not voting either. I don't want any of them.

With their Barbour jackets and Hunter wellies, they're all-weather voters Grin
