Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

I worry about further splits dividing Scotland. North vs South or East vs West or Central Belt vs everyone else.

Iwouldratherbesailing · 05/05/2021 23:18

You don’t think that the deluded SNP voters that follow Nicola to the promised land might be a bit pissed off when ‘Project Fear’ turns out to be ‘Project-opinion-of-endless-highly-qualified-economists?’

I can’t see the SNP lasting 5 mins after independence!

Hit enter too soon!

There hasn't been a proper financial analysis yet. I'll wait and see. Lots of highly educated people, some economists included, think it will be just fine! A proper financial analysis in the current context does need to be fully carried out though.

Thanks for the insults though. Smile
@Graffitiqueen "they enjoy power so much"...what proposing and passing legislation that citizens call for and that should have been acted upon decades ago...?
Really. Is that what you believe?!😂😂😂😂

Such as what? The HCB, the OBFA, the named person? All hated by the majority of the populace but the SNP tried to ram them through.

RedactedTaeFeck · 05/05/2021 23:46

I think for every person voting for SNP as a means to an end, there are about 5 who think they are actually doing a good job. That's the problem.

MissBarbary · 06/05/2021 00:17

No doubts at all. Conservative for both votes.

Torvean · 06/05/2021 00:53

A 26 year old Labour candidate in zany glasses- whose best habit is the fact that he has a season ticket for the local team....

Or a 21 year old lib dem who is a student ? That's the best lib-dem can do for a large city ?

SNP - first line is all about independence. Just No

Tory- actually have the best mandate. Might be different if we haven't been ignored by the Tory party.

Green party is a pointless vote here.

That's all my options

forfucksakenett · 06/05/2021 06:24

@RedactedTaeFeck firstly that's just your guess and secondly maybe they are doing a good job for many. Why is it so hard to get that people are different and have different priorities?

@Graffitiqueen how can you say with confidence that these things aren't or weren't wanted by the majority of the populace. How do you know what the majority of the populace think or want?

Is it too much to hope that the reporting ban from 7am could be applied to this thread and we could have a nice quiet day talking about the terrible weather or something else we agree on!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/05/2021 07:25

Well it seems like a fairly nice day here Smile

charliebrown59 · 06/05/2021 07:31

terrible weather? Not a bad morning here, chinks of blue sky. Good luck to everyone voting, whoever you've voted for.

Ooooh time for a quick play of the horrible histories suffragettes song. My DD has informed me that politicians are all idiots :(

Selkiesarereal · 06/05/2021 07:39

Ah lucky you it’s a dreich start here and wondering where Spring has gone as it’s so cold!

Jacopo · 06/05/2021 07:45

If I put an X in the snp box and then write beside it “I support women’s rights so this is NOT a vote for the SNP candidate” is there a chance it might go in the heap of ambiguous votes that the candidates have to argue for? Marginal seat here.

It should be counted as a spoilt ballot paper but you can always use a tick or draw a face instead in the box if you want to make double sure.

Great idea.

Won’t really have a decent set of results until Friday teatime apparently, due to Covid counting conditions.

Goldrill · 06/05/2021 08:11

It's just snowed here!
Am minded to go for SNP both, on the basis that independence seems like it's not going away so might as well get it over with.
If we stay with uk:
It's definitely going to be austerity anyway, and probably a Tory one.
If Scotland splits off:
Slight risk of it being worse here after; most likely equally bad; but some possibility of it being slightly less bad. Worth a gamble on that.

RedactedTaeFeck · 06/05/2021 08:14

Just to add for those who haven't voted yet, you can take your own pen or pencil. I'll be taking a pen.

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/05/2021 08:20

Worth remembering it was the SNP that ensured that hundreds of millions of equal pay was paid out to women (other parties had spent millions fighting the payout).

soupmaker · 06/05/2021 08:37

Took me ages to decide who to vote for. I'm a left independence supporter. Was easy to decide who not to vote for, leaving me with little options. The incumbent SNP MSP is awful so ended up voting for the candidate I'd be least horrified to be represented by in the constituency vote. Regional vote was determined by the SNP having a brilliant young woman at the top of their list so gave them my vote but suspect she'll not get elected. It was very tempting to spoil ballot papers with an explanation as to why i couldn't vote for any of them.

Scottishskifun · 06/05/2021 08:42

I'm waiting for DH to get back from nursery run to let me know if there is a queue or not. Its going to knacker it out of me walking the 300 m to the polling station with my slow covid recovery can't face then standing waiting for ages! I'm at 6 weeks before someone has a meltdown paddy about me attending a polling station with covid!

titsintiers · 06/05/2021 08:54

All done. Remember a mask and something to write with. I didn't 🤦‍♀️

I’m in, particularly as it enables me to moan about the fact that I woke up to snow this morning! It’s May ffs!
Morgan12 · 06/05/2021 09:11

Well done for spoiling your vote. May aswell have stayed home no?

I'm voting whoever I need to for independence.
