The positivity rate is encouraging.

UnderHisAye · 15/04/2021 11:45

I think that must be the lowest for quite some time Smile

Great news! Hope we can get our lives back now!
ResilienceWanker · 15/04/2021 14:33

Thanks dancemom! (was considering having a look on the gov website, but came here instead for your update. Much easier!) It's looking good, and, yes, the %positive is tiny. I'm mentally willing everything to stay going in the right direction over the next fortnight (and in England too, for possible travel reasons...)

Good news! Thanks for the stats @dancemom Thanks

I read an article on FB from Edinburgh News saying they were opening nightclubs in August. Can't link unfortunately. Scared me I must say, I just want life back to normal and to stay like that and close sweaty environments seem a bit risky, but I guess that's because nightclubs don't feature heavily in my life anymore so are no loss to me.

Perihelion · 16/04/2021 11:22

I spent all my weekends in clubs, in the 90'sGrin
I'm concerned at the idea of the Fringe going ahead. That seems like madness.

Sootess · 16/04/2021 12:18

@Perihelion 😳
How on earths is that going to work. Loads fringe venues are tiny with terrible ventilation! Can't see it being financially viable

Justmuddlingalong · 16/04/2021 12:21

I'll be avoiding the Edinburgh festival this year. The train journey, packed in like sardines, is enough to put me off.

user1487194234 · 16/04/2021 12:34

I felt very positive when I saw the news about the festival

ResilienceWanker · 16/04/2021 13:22

Yes - I'm totally up for the festival/ fringe. I assume they're running it with reduced capacity, with more outdoors stuff, and presumably it'll be cheaper for performers with that in mind. But it will be so nice to have a bit of spontaneity.

It's outdoor venues and capped numbers

ResilienceWanker · 16/04/2021 13:24

(also, it might be a bit less manic with fewer clueless tourists having to grasp the concept of Edinburgh buses/ geography and so on).

ResilienceWanker · 16/04/2021 13:26

A Local Festival for Local People - that's what I want. ( but with good shows). Cos I'm a misanthrope.

Thanks 😊
I'm really confused to why the LA data hasn't been published today at all just health boards!

dancemom · 16/04/2021 16:20

160 old cases which were identified through the ONS infection surveys have been added to the cumulative total today, which means there is no daily increase figure for the council areas today

Scottishskifun · 16/04/2021 16:36

Thanks!

I tend to check out our LA and that's about it really think it's more through habit now! 😂 I used to do it to see higher places and make weekend plans but we haven't had any in over a month now so no idea why I still bother!

Perihelion · 16/04/2021 20:52

The International Festival is going to be 3? outdoor covered venues, but the Fringe isn't necessarily and is actually hoping to use the usual EIF sites.
I'm biased against the Fringe, as it's got too big, I despise Underbelly and it's on when the schools are back. I'd probably look more kindly on it, if it ran during July.

SempreSuiGeneris · 17/04/2021 07:55

I agree with you Perihelion. Haven't been for a good few years cos it's got so beyond itself.

Real joke is lots of small venues outside Edinburgh host Fringe Acts in the warm up phase. Usually I go to 2 or 3 performances where I get an exclusive preview without having to deal with the hassle. Same goes for the rotation of Buchanan Street buskers. In some ways I miss Glasgow being the centre of attention because everything has become so Edinburgh centric. However most of the time it means we get to have a vibrant Arts scene without the hangers on and over comercialisation. Also much more room for grass roots projects.

rookiemere · 17/04/2021 08:23

I have to say that in some ways I'm quite glad that a reset has been forced on the Edinburgh New Year celebrations and the Fringe Festival. Over the past few years they've increasingly been purely financially focused with no half price tickets for locals like they used to offer and Princes Street Gardens destroyed because of NYE.

dancemom · 17/04/2021 14:29

• 210 new cases of COVID-19 reported
