They've definitely said that, oh that is wonderful - break out the cheap fizzy wine, the trip to Northumberland end April is on!!!!

Time to start calling my friends relatives and booking ourselves in Grin

Haudyourwheesht · 13/04/2021 12:49

@riverrunning

But why hasn't the date for rUK travel been confirmed?

Even if it wasn't officially allowed this Friday why is there no absolutely confirmed date for people with relatives and friends in RUK?

She said 26th April. She said it today. Waiting to see what N Ireland say but England and Wales from that date. Travel within all of Scotland from 26th April so presumably self catering is opening.
RaspberryCoulis · 13/04/2021 12:51

@WouldBeGood

Does Scottish self catering open then too? Otherwise everyone will be heading over the border for trips
Which is why they have specifically said travel within Scotland. Subtext - no flocking to Primark in Carlisle or into Berwick for a swift pint. Hmm

Anyway. I am flouting and flocking and breaking the rules by seeing my mum tomorrow. We last saw them in August. She and my dad are 2 weeks past their second jab so it's as safe as it can be. We were planning an outside visit but just spoke to my mum and she said that if it's chilly "we'll just sit in the house, Nicola's not telling me that I have to see my grandchildren in the garden and not hug them". Go mum, the 77 year old rebel.

WouldBeGood · 13/04/2021 12:51

Sorry @RaspberryCoulis I meant after 26th

Scottishskifun · 13/04/2021 13:06

@RaspberryCoulis 😂 your mum has made my day! I very much agree with her view too right they are protected as much as possible.

rookiemere · 13/04/2021 13:21

This is such good news, am considering changing Fridays walk with friends to outside Edinburgh city boundary, so radical, and our trip to see English relatives halfway at Bamburgh on 8th May is on.

I'm finding it hard to digest, I want to cry with relief, it finally feels like the nightmare is lifting.

ResilienceWanker · 13/04/2021 13:41

Yay! So glad the council area thing has gone (though sadly, not for a non essential trip to IKEA or dobbies in the neighbouring council...) and the 26th confirmed for travel south. It does sound more positive.

Also, raspberry's mum sounds fab...

rookiemere you are very welcome at East Lothian beaches! I am there regularly and haven't seen a police car or van all the way through.
rookiemere · 13/04/2021 13:58

Sorry @ResilienceWanker I don't understand what you mean - I thought council travelling restrictions were lifted from Friday- is there caveats around that ?

forfucksakenett · 13/04/2021 14:05

No shopping. You're just supposed to go to meet people outside.

GoldenOmber · 13/04/2021 14:08

We can travel for ‘outdoor socialising, recreation and informal exercise’.

Currently refreshing Edinburgh Zoo’s website like mad to see if that’s included...

ResilienceWanker · 13/04/2021 14:16

@rookiemere

Sorry *@ResilienceWanker* I don't understand what you mean - I thought council travelling restrictions were lifted from Friday- is there caveats around that ?
Ah, actually I may be wrong about that. She said...

So, from Friday this week - 16 April - we will all be able to travel anywhere within Scotland for the purposes of outdoor socialising, recreation, or informal exercise.
... (blah, blah, rule of 6 etc)...
And remember also that travel restrictions for wider purposes - such as leisure, shopping, visiting hospitality premises or staying in tourist accommodation - will remain until 26 April when these places will re-open and all travel restrictions within Scotland will be lifted.

So I took that to mean that we weren't allowed to travel outside our areas for shopping, and only for socialising/ recreation/ exercise, but actually looking at her actual words, it may just mean that we can't do anything that is currently closed (well, duh...). Maybe IKEA shopping is recreation? Though it's still not clear, tbh, as the relaxation does seem to be related to meeting people in the wider briefing. Grrr. I wish these things were made explicit ("you can travel outside your area, but don't travel outside your area for some things" Yup, clear and unambiguous messaging, that's what our Nicola is good at).

@ResilienceWanker IKEA is definitely recreational and if you buy some meatballs on the way out then it's food shopping which is essential too Grin
IKEA is DH idea of hell but go enjoy the wandering!

speedtalker · 13/04/2021 14:36

I feel all fizzy with anticipation.

Does this mean people are allowed to stay in property they own themselves outside their own council area- it's not officially hospitality..? Have people I know v keen to find out calmac's response on this.

ResilienceWanker · 13/04/2021 14:40

To be fair, it's my idea of hell too. Especially without the free coffee. But beggars can't be choosers, and I'll take what I'm allowed, frankly. I'm oddly missing a good rummage through the soft furnishings and random kitchen equipment. Can't do the meatballs, but they do have those mini daim bars in big fuckoff bags, which I'm thinking may well be essential.

26th of April for overnight stays in self catering and presumably second homes as well as the travel around Scotland from 16th-26th is no overnight stay.
DieSchottin93 · 13/04/2021 16:47

Honestly I'm a bit fed up with all these tidbits they are throwing to us before the elections most things re-open on the 26th. I'm absolutely desperate to get down to Edinburgh to see my best friend and her boys - my godson and his new baby brother - as I last visited them in December 2019. I was going to break the rules and see them during the school holidays but alas, they've gone to my friend's parents in the Borders. Sad

I work in hospitality/tourism so I imagine I will need to go in for training next week (we have two new starts who will need training) and now that my godson is at school there's not much point in me going during the week, especially when I haven't seen him for so long. I hope I can see them next month, I know we've got the vaccine programme in full swing now but I'm stil worried Nicola will change her mind on travelling around Scotland if numbers start to go up again and I'll miss out on that small window of opportunity like I did last year Sad

Justmuddlingalong · 13/04/2021 18:45

I've just been checking the Scotgov website for info before making plans. Am I right in thinking we can go to other area of Scotland to visit family, outdoors from this Friday, but we still can't stay over in a hotel while in other areas until after the 26th of April? Can anyone confirm I've got that right before booking a hotel? TIA.

DieSchottin93 · 13/04/2021 19:04

@Justmuddlingalong correct. From the Scottish government website:

Travel within Scotland
You should stay local, and not travel outside your local council area unless you have an essential reason like going to work or visiting your extended household.

From 16 April you can:

Meet in groups of up to 6 adults from 6 households socially outdoors, for recreation or exercise (under 12s do not count towards the number of people meeting or households)

Travel anywhere in Scotland to meet others for the above purpose - but you must not stay away from your local council area (or for Highland or Argyll and Bute, the Level 3 or Level 4 part of those areas that you live in) overnight

Justmuddlingalong · 13/04/2021 19:07

Thank you @DieSchottin93. I've booked a hotel for the first weekend in May to get through to see family. Was just checking in case I could have gone this weekend instead. It's too far to get there and back in a day, so we need to stay over.

DieSchottin93 · 13/04/2021 19:35

You're welcome Smile I've provisionally booked a hotel room for that start of May - £39 for a hotel room at Haymarket, absolute bargain! Just hope I can get the time off work 🙈

Justmuddlingalong · 13/04/2021 20:02

Result! I've booked a night now too. The excitement, just hope the weather plays ball. 🤞

Scottishskifun · 14/04/2021 07:32

Happy to see the news that the fair Isles are now fully vaccinated and it was done sensibly rather than at huge cost of sending multiple planes for very few jabs to be delivered based on age!
