We once booked a campervan at Easter @WouldBeGood . The incredibly dreech Scottish weather made everywhere seem supremely shit. DS had it worst as his bed was practically inside the toilet so he got all the toilet aromas, we were up some rickety ladder so I was frightened to get drunk in case I needed the toilet. In fact when a memory came up on my FB timeline feed, it's the one time I've felt grateful to be at home in my nice warm bed rather than shivering on a freezing hard mattress and unable to cook breakfast as the gas canister ( from thieving robbers of motorhome hire company) had run out.

So there's always that as an option. Very covid safe though.

Yes local card and gift shop open, they sell candles.!!
Can't blame businesses who push at the boundaries of this crap

UnderHisAye · 10/04/2021 12:09
@UnderHisAye homeware shops were allowed to open from 5th April so that explains the change
Ohhhh is that right? I've lost the plot entirely with all the stupid wee incremental changes.

jerometheturnipking · 10/04/2021 12:12
@Haudyourwheesht M&S braehead has been open throughout. They’ve shut the upstairs, and moved some men’s and homeware downstairs.
Feels rather unfair on other non-food retailers.
The big Next in Kirkcaldy has been open for click and collect throughout too. Although now you can go into the shop and buy your pink plastic flamingoes and touch up the photo frames before you collect your clothes order.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 12:13

@rookiemere that sounds awful 😂

I’m thinking more nice hotel in shite place, where they will not hate visitors

dancemom · 10/04/2021 12:21

Aw you guys!

To be perfectly honest I'm seeking any kind of routine and normality and in this situation so checking the daily stats and posting them on here is a tiny bit of purpose in chaos for me.

I don't have anything planned or booked, don't want to tempt fate or have to rearrange but I'm hoping to go up north to see friends in the summer 🤞🏼

I had a great evening last night - managed to get padded garden chairs from B&M and then noticed Matalan was open!! It was heaven, browsing in am actual shop and loads of things on sale, it's made my week Grin

Ladylunchalot · 10/04/2021 12:29

Have also booked a caravan holiday in Yorkshire for Mon-Fri the last week in June. We've been there before and it's v quiet as there are only 11 caravans there.
Surely we'll be able to travel by then???

rookiemere · 10/04/2021 12:38

Oh I've actually thought of a valid reason to go the stores. We need more face masks as DS refuses to wear the fabric ones and I'm in a personal mission to get the cheapest disposable ones I can find.
I do wonder how families on a tight budget afford the ongoing extra expense.

LookAChicken · 10/04/2021 12:59

I was thinking of buying pads for the garden chairs😅.

latissimusdorsi · 10/04/2021 13:38

I'm a wee bit scunnered @dancemom!
But I check here every day for update as you just give the stats and I don't have to wade through other shit that may make me feel more scunnered!
Thank you 😊

ResilienceWanker · 10/04/2021 13:40

Ooooh. Hadn't thought that "homeware" could encompass a fairly wide range of things. We need to walk out to get a new part for DSs bike tomorrow, so may have a browse around near there to see if anywhere is taking a similarly lax approach to the opening requirements. Had already promised The Family a takeaway coffee/ hot chocolate and cake while there, so that's something... though snow's forecast again. Sigh

Thanks rookie- I may well just book something refundable anyway. We wouldn't want to go too far.. just somewhere with a pool, and accessible by public transport. Was thinking York-ish as DS is having a viking phase and I fancy a trip to Betty's.

titsintiers · 10/04/2021 13:59

@WouldBeGood

Thanks *@titsintiers* 😂

I’m thinking if starting a thread for such recommendations

Do it! Although even shite holidays are appealing right now.
WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 14:14

Started it @titsintiers.

I can but dream...

rookiemere · 10/04/2021 14:51

@ResilienceWanker I still remember Betty's brown bread ice cream from over 30 years ago. We've a week booked in Whitby, night squeeze in a day trip to Harrogate.

Ooooh, Bettys I love it there. The breakfast Rosti is the best thing ever.
We’ve got a couple of hotel stays to carry forward. Some overseas accommodation, which is valid till 2023. And a wee Cornwall holiday booked for this summer. Trying to work out when we can catch up with family and friends.

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 10/04/2021 15:04

Thanks @dancemom, new cases really low, vaccinations pretty good, we should be able to get things back open sooner shouldn't we?

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 15:23

Thanks @dancemom

Ha! Some friends had their wedding reception as afternoon tea in the Bettys in York. It was fab... I think I may have got afternoon-tipsy, and we ended up in the late not so lamented cafe rouge in the evening with a bunch of other guests, taking the piss out of the accent of the "French" waiter who was as French as I am... Blush Definitely going down-market as the day progressed.

The one in Northallerton is lovely too, but I've only ever been to that one with work. So: good thing - entirely expensable, but bad thing - tainted with memories of spreadsheets and strategic approaches.

ResilienceWanker · 10/04/2021 15:35

Thanks again dancemom! The vaccination numbers are really picking up again.

rookiemere · 10/04/2021 16:14

I didn't realise there was a Bettys in York .That's actually handier as we are picking up DS friend in York who's going to join us for part of the week.

ResilienceWanker · 10/04/2021 17:02

There is, but it ALWAYS has a queue outside, and probably more so under The New Normal. So I'd definitely recommend booking.

HadEnoughOfBears · 10/04/2021 18:09

I think that Betty's in York is not re-opening and has closed for good.
