I see on BBC that Wales has brought some dates forward given the low rates. Don't imagine we can expect that level of forward thinking, but I'd love to be proven wrong!

latissimusdorsi · 09/04/2021 10:48

Would hope the Gov would learn the lessons of last summer. didn't take full advantage of low numbers and opened up at slower rate. And we faired no better.
Make hay while the sun shines!

rookiemere · 09/04/2021 10:48

@goldengoldfish I never thought I'd see the day that Wales was more flexible and forward thinking than Scotland, but there we go. Perhaps they actually want some tourism this summer - saw an interview yesterday with Scottish hotelier saying they have had no booking requests over the summer - and who can blame people for wanting more certainty around their choice.

For me it's a no brainer. I'd much rather spend my summer money in England where there's more chance of eating establishments being open without silly restrictions around alcohol, can actually sit inside with the extended family and as a bonus the weather will probably be better.

Caution - like everything else - has its downsides when taken to extremes.

SempreSuiGeneris · 09/04/2021 12:06

If all we are left with is domestic holidays then I suspect many will just not bother. I am Glasgow area and can be down the beach, on a loch or up a brae or mountain in less than an hour. Much easier to just go day trips than chance a week away of rain and restrictions.

fluffyugg · 09/04/2021 12:45

@SempreSuiGeneris I think you're right. We won't pay to go and stay somewhere else in Scotland with the same weather! Can do day trips or stay with friends if we want to get away from the house. Also too much uncertainty for people to start booking.

randomsabreuse · 09/04/2021 12:55

Too much uncertainty for me to book, as much about other activities (that I want to do) as about actually getting away.

Also quite a lot of hotels don't seem to be taking bookings even for October (Premier Inn).

Also we haven't explored anywhere outside East Dunbartonshire (so all of Glasgow is new let alone central belt) so will probably go for a weekend or so further afield if the summer goes well.

Will admit I'm semi dreading taking the kids to a restaurant as despite best efforts and much nagging they're pretty damn feral at meal times!

Thanks @dancemom. Those are pretty good vac numbers.

Haudyourwheesht · 09/04/2021 15:34

I was wondering if she can't bring dates forward in case it's seen as political. It certainly would be on here Wink

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/04/2021 15:35

I really wish she would consider bringing stuff forward. Make it a week on Monday even cause there is no way she will do what Boris does.

There is a sunbed shop that's open by the back door and it's all over my Facebook. Everyone buzzing. This stuff is happening more and more

It’s a sad day when I would rather be Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I was surprised to see the news from Wales. But glad for them.

toucancancan · 09/04/2021 18:24

Has anyone in Glasgow in their 40s been invited for a vaccine yet?

Dates can be brought forward it was one of the caveats before purdah came in for the briefings.

I think she's choosing not to because the secondary schools haven't gone back yet.

I was watching this morning with their theme parks opening up DH said I wonder when Scotlands open..... Mid June!

Haudyourwheesht · 09/04/2021 20:39

Marks and Spencer's in Braehead was open today as normal. Lots of ladies with trollies milling around the jumpers. If I hadn't had DH waiting in the car (was in for a click and collect) I'd have done a crazy trolley dash - it was just so nice being in a real shop.

Icannever · 09/04/2021 20:40

We’re just discussing a theme park trip to England in may but worried we won’t be allowed to travel. Hard to see how it could be justified since England’s numbers are better than ours but still worried. Youngest son is theme park mad and has been missing his adrenaline junkie side a lot recently. He cried at the last movie we watched as a family because the family in it went on a roller coaster 😳

WouldBeGood · 09/04/2021 20:48

@Icannever just go. They can’t stop you 🤷🏻‍♀️

Icannever · 09/04/2021 20:51

I’m a scaredy-cat plus dh won’t go unless it’s allowed. I’d consider a trip to Yorkshire to visit my sister as I could say that’s mental health reasons (she’s a bit mental 😀) but flamingo land which is near her is only opening baby rides which would not go down well with my rather mental 9 year old 😀. He wants Blackpool (😱) or Alton towers

WouldBeGood · 09/04/2021 20:55

Big rides 😂 I’d be too scared of them, never mind flouting Nic’s rules

pawsbaws · 09/04/2021 21:01

I wish. Nope, I reckon it could be another 6 weeks based on what I’ve read.

I think they would be hard pushed trying to justify keeping travel ban in place for England or NI when cases are lower than in Scotland.

I mean I can imagine it now we are keeping it under review because of risk of importing cases....... Oh wait its us who are higher HmmBlushEaster Wink

Haudyourwheesht · 09/04/2021 21:47

@toucancancan Nope, not here either. Can't see it any time soon.

Icannever · 09/04/2021 22:02

I’ve had mine in Fife but presume it’s because of medica history. Don’t know anyone in those 40s who have been given it without a medical reason.
Fife nhs seemed to say that since they’d reached their target of top priority groups early they would pause for a wee rest. Presumably because of supplies but England seems
To be busy vaccinating 40 year olds just now

WouldBeGood · 09/04/2021 22:16

I think it will be many months before they officially permit travel to England, to be honest
