Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care?

Evidence of a conspiracy to frame Alex Salmond has been building. There are compelling reports in the Times, Herald , Sky News and across the internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'm Scottish but I don't live there. I've been hooked by this as a story of power and corruption. I'm on the fence re independence, just don't know enough so don't have an axe in that debate. I've never been an SNP member. But I do care about justice and that no-one should be above the law, especially politicians when they are seeking to imprison their potential rivals.

After reading this affadavit from Craig Murray which brings it all together and is incendiary I'm pretty convinced there has been a conspiracy and that Sturgeon and her collaborators should face justice. Although the justice department (Crown office) also seem to be mired in this. Here is the affadavit www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2021/01/my-sworn-evidence-on-the-sturgeon-affair/

I've shown this to a few people and have been shocked that a couple have said, yes it stinks but I like Sturgeon. I'd be interested in the views of Scotsnet. How much do you know about this? Do you care? Is it OK for our politicians to imprison their rivals, like Putin and co do, if you like their other objectives. Has Scotland become a corrupt nation? Is that OK?

The Craig Murray piece is utterly damning and shows the level of corruption and misuse of power within the SNP.( Not that they are alone in this as politicians; it seems to come with the job!)
Yes, this deserves a full airing and the resignation of the FM and those involved.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/02/2021 12:08

I was reading about this over the past few days. If true it is utterly dreadful and a hideous abuse of power.

hamstersarse · 01/02/2021 12:09

I think Sturgeon is one of those people who shouts a lot about her integrity...who are most often the people very much lacking in integrity

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 01/02/2021 12:10

I absolutely care and can't understand the lack of noise about it up here. Rotten to the absolute core whilst convincing people she is doing a good job. She's a smart lady that's for sure. People here will continue to defend her I imagine

beepbeeprichie · 01/02/2021 12:11

I think regardless of whether you like her or not, if this is true then she has to go, as does her husband. The idea that she’s doing a good job and that Salmond was obviously a bit dodgy is the end justifying the means which is a slippery slope.
I’m disappointed in the civil service more than anything as they are supposed to be impartial.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/02/2021 12:13

I think that those in a position of power and influence and are elected officials should show and act within high standards of honesty and integrity and so therefore I do care.

I don't like NS or the SNP so appreciate my view us biased. There us also the Joan McAlpine and NEC issue, NSs "unscripted" video.

I hope that the curtain is falling and the tiny wizard is revealed/people realise that the emperor is now seen as naked to the general populous.

It would please me no end to see the end of this anti women odious party to collapse.

I would think that if true and can be proven, this warrants legal charges. Attempting to have someone convicted and locked up for someone that they didn't do is a terrible thing. Not that I'm an Alec Salmond fan either.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/02/2021 12:20

I'm no Salmond fan, and he strikes me as a bit of a pompous sleezy git. But pompous and a bit smarmy doesn't mean abuser.

If this is true that he was set up, it was very clever in that he will never truly shake it off. It played to his weaknesses and so people could imagine the allegations being true. I'll be honest - I did.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/02/2021 12:26

Me too statistically. I've noticed in recent media photos that he is looking decidedly less pompous and sleazy which can only be a good thing.

EightWellies · 01/02/2021 12:34

Hmmm...I'm not a fan of NS at all and am very anti-SNP, but what I think this whole fiasco shows is how hard it is to convict a sex offender.

ParkheadParadise · 01/02/2021 12:39

I don't care
Every politician is out for themselves.
In the past, I have voted Labour/SNP. I voted for independence.
I believe NS is heading for a downfall.

I care if the people supposed to be leading the country are engaging in criminal conspiracies tbh.

All welcome in Scotsnet @percheron67 as you would be visiting in person.

Some lively debates on both sides.

It makes an interesting developing story now that Trump etc is off the news.

I'm on the fence though; not a fan of SNP but Nicola strikes me as a competent politician. And we don't have many of them!

NotCornflakes · 01/02/2021 12:59

Live in Scotland, SNP voter, like Nicola, do not know or care if this is true. Salmond had it coming.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/02/2021 13:04

After the NEC stuff, I'm asstounded that any woman is supporting them to be honest

wingsoverscotland.com/the-death-wish/

I'm as surprised as anyone in finding myself agreeing with wings lately.

And yes, of course the disabled and minorities should be given opportunities but this is also a blatent attack on women and no, I don't like Joan McAlpine either but she has been treated unfairly in this. However:

In January 2012, McAlpine stated that individuals who criticised the policies of the SNP were 'anti-Scottish', provoking widespread condemnation from other political parties.[15] In March 2012, McAlpine compared Scotlands' position in the UK with a woman in an abusive marriage with a domineering man and stated that rival political parties were behaving in a sexist and misogynistic manner.[15]

and many other unpleasantries.

so you are perfectly happy that the leadership of our country has allegedly conspired to put someone in jail? Really?
ChaToilLeam · 01/02/2021 13:09

I’ve always preferred NS over AS but if this is true, and Murray’s account is pretty damming, then she has to go. Though the SNP have been pretty ropey of late anyway with their shitty undermining of women’s’ rights.

anon444877 · 01/02/2021 13:10

I translated this into politicians I like, so if Tony Blair had colluded with other new labour types to bring legal charges against Corbyn (thereby saving the Labour Party 2 awful electoral defeats down the line), would I care and would it be wrong?

I'd be reluctant, I'd want it to go away and say Corbyn had it coming as he's so intolerant himself and I'd understand their motives but yes I'd have to care and act accordingly. Otherwise what kind of democracy do we have?

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/02/2021 13:11

Putin? Says it all really.

sessell · 01/02/2021 13:19

@notcornflakes @lizziemacqueen I think so far you may be closer to the public mood. I'm wondering how much you know about the story and where you get your info from? What do your family / friends think? As I said, my view is that no one should be above justice in a functioning democracy, especially politicians. It's a black and white issue for me. But I'm very curious about why people might think otherwise.

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/02/2021 13:26

What would you have done differently op? I'd encourage women to let the police know if they told me they'd been securely assaulted.

RaspberryCoulis · 01/02/2021 13:30

Couldn't hate her any more than I do, so no. Just confirms her as a nasty piece of work, every bit as bad as Salmond.

Selkiesarereal · 01/02/2021 13:31

I’ve said it time and time on similar threads that we should never turn a blind eye to politicians either misleading parliament or corruption as that leads to a very slippery slope in term of democracy.

I am always shocked when people are happy to do so and I ponder what else they would happily ignore in the quest for independence.

Tamingofthehamster · 01/02/2021 13:36

No one who wants independence will care less. It’s all about independence to them so they’ll just keep quiet about it. I think AS seems like a slimy git, so wasn’t surprised by the allegations, but if it is a set up, it just shows how rotten the SNP is generally.
