Have some hugs and solidarity from me too @runningpink, glad you got some chat while out and about

Groovee · 05/01/2021 14:39

My doorbell rang this morning and there was my mum on the doorstep with a huge shopping bag. Her first comment was "your dad weighs a tonne!" Shed gone to collect the ashes and as I live round the corner from the funeral directors, she'd popped in. 2 colleagues got the text "my mum has turned up carrying my dad!" Honestly if I don't laugh I'll cry, I've been randomly laughing all day since. 😂

Peppafrig · 05/01/2021 14:44

I’ve been out and about in Glasgow and Edinburgh today and it’s like there is no lockdown at all. Places are packed with people .

runningpink · 05/01/2021 14:44

I’m sorry @Groovee but that’s made me giggle for the first time today.
I hope you are doing ok?

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2021 14:48

Oh no Grovee 😂

Perihelion · 05/01/2021 14:51

Ouch, just looked at the 7 day rates per 100,000 for LA's released today. Some really big increases, especially Inverclyde and Dumfries and Galloway, which are over 500 now. New variant, plus Christmas, plus pish weather leading to less ventilation. If the schools had gone back there would have been loads of SI periods.

I'm feeling remarkably okay, mainly because I've just found out that my new job, allegedly starts next monthGrin and my online exercise classes are back this week. I only started doing these during the first lockdown. Wasn't a gym goer, but have really enjoyed them and recommend. There's more motivation if you're be watched, compared to doing a YouTube video.

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2021 15:03

I'm streaming a funeral on Friday my uncle died Christmas week I'm just having my parents I'm assuming that is "essential" ?

Groovee · 05/01/2021 15:12

I'm glad it made you laugh. I just keep laughing. My dad would have been poorless about it.
Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 15:17

Mrsjayy does that mean your mum or dad can't attend their siblings funeral in person. Horrible, just horrible.

Streaming funerals is something people will look back on in horror. I hope they aren't recorded. IYKWIM.

Groove that's quite funny with your mum. Grin
Ashes are surprisingly heavy though. I think we imagine they'd be light like the dust in a hoover bag. Blush

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2021 15:22

Yeah they can't attend it's in England and they are streaming it from the service. I'm not sure what to expect tbh but we have set it up on the television to watch!

Peppafrig · 05/01/2021 15:30

@Mrsjayy they would be allowed to cross the border for a funeral .

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 15:33

I've 'attended' a couple a friends Dad and a colleague. Felt like being a fly on the wall, watching other people grieve but not be able to offer comfort.

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 15:40

I assume its numbers rather than the travel that's stopping them.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 05/01/2021 15:41

@groovee that's the sort of thing my mum would do/say. She sees the humour in everything. Glad you are able to laugh a bit.

Groovee · 05/01/2021 16:07

We streamed my dad's funeral as my half sister in Australia couldn't have got over and quarantined etc in time. Plus it meant the family who didn't fit into the 20 could come.

I've not seen it yet. But bursting into tears wearing a mask wasn't great.
