No we've had no detail, I'm surmising that schools back after half term and critical freedoms back May @runningpink but we'll get some actual info I hope over the next weeks.

Personally I've emailed work this am and said I'll start juggling some hours and childcare and for me, it's given me a boost as something else other than covid to focus on - it's hard being stuck in your own 4 walls, the mental pressure of that is intense, that's the same whatever you are paid or not paid, have dc or not etc.

My DM has really struggled - she's got her tail very slightly up for the vaccine by mid feb for her for the first dose.

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 09:22

Runningpink, take them up on their offer. Even if you have one evening a week together it would make a huge difference to your MH. It doesn't need to be contact multiple times per week.

NotAnActualSheep · 05/01/2021 09:26

@ProvisionallyAnxious

It's a trivial aspect of it all but I'm so disheartened by the max 2 individuals from 2 households (plus kids). My DH and I got so much from socialising outdoors at the weekend with one other family, and now we can't do that. But he can meet one half of the couple in our garden and I can meet the other half in theirs which has exactly the same impact!

I'm not sure the government realises what narrow lifelines many people's mental and emotional health has been resting on. Sad Agreed that we desperately need a route map.

Agree with this. We were in the same situation. Two couples, or various combinations of the two, depending on work commitments, going for a walk and allowing the primary aged kids to do the kind of things they do together outside. It's hardly painting to town red FFS. But doing anything as two families is now obviously too dangerous...whereas meeting separately is fine Hmm

ABC (80s girl here) have a song called "Tears are not enough".

Tiers are not enough for the next thread title as things are moving fast around here.

Other thoughts?

Did we have Teirs for fears?

Drowning in a sea full of tiers

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 05/01/2021 09:39

the threads were trundling along fine until some people joined for the sole purpose of picking fights.

Back on topic - a Tory whose name I forget was on telly saying restrictions might last til March. So I wonder if schools will be closed longer. I have been WFH throughout and only have one DD (12) so I have managed better than most parents.

DD hates being stuck indoors though and I'm concerned about how much learning she will get - last lockdown she was finished her work in just half an hour and refused to do anything additional that she hadn't been told to do by a teacher. We did look at bitesize but the activities for her age group were too immature/easy so we think there's a mistake there.

DD also worried she won't have a proper 13th birthday in February and I have no ideas as to what to do for said birthday if she's not allowed to go anywhere or have a party.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 05/01/2021 09:40

"teir us apart"

Cismyfatarse · 05/01/2021 09:41

I like "drowning in a sea full of tiers" which nicely chimes with my bleak mood.

Has anyone said anything about the SP elections yet? I assume they will be going ahead, though campaigning seems like a tricky thing to be thinking about at the moment. But I'm really worried they become a "covid election" like in the US, with all the parties saying what they would do better, and not concentrating on other policies, especially what to do to drag the economy off the floor, and unscupper education and health and so on. Partly why I think a cross party pandemic group would have been a better idea, as the "Scottish approach" is now tied into the SNP. It will just make separating out the electorate's support for different policies as reflected through their voting more tricky. Like the US election turned into masks/Biden vs no masks/ trump, when there was really a lot more at stake.

Agree!
anon444877 · 05/01/2021 09:47

The tiers are not enough? Like the world is not enough bond? I like drowning too. Despite being in theory busy I'm sure I'll find the time to waffle on at length through out jan

dancemom · 05/01/2021 09:49

I'm reading this morning about how fast Israel are vaccinating their population despite being mid second wave also

fluffyugg · 05/01/2021 09:50

What BJ and NS said about vaccine rollout may work out to be similar but BJ's approach is being reported as 'most vulnerable vaccinated by mid February'This definitely sounds more promising and would help with our mindset if Scotland could say the same.

anon444877 · 05/01/2021 09:51

@Iwillneverbesatisfied my dd who is 10 the same - mysteriously knocked out mandatory work at warp speed and then mooched around looking up actresses and pop stars of interest. Oh joy.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/01/2021 09:53

I'm theoretically busy but sorely lacking in focus

Trying to make a point of actually putting on clothes, sort of doing my hair and using some skincare. Sounds basic but self care has gone out the window recently.

Tomorrowisanewday · 05/01/2021 09:56

NotAnActualSheep - Nicola Sturgeon was on Radio Sotland this morning, was asked about the elections, and said they would go ahead

Well, that's something I suppose!
Dollybagwash · 05/01/2021 10:01

@kurtrussellsbeard calling me Ivor Cummings for asking a question is just poor debate. Anyway don't want to derail the thread but I can't just listen to NS and take her words at face value.

Surely they will start campaigning soon for election? I really want to see some policies not just covid stuff. I think SNP need to lose a good few seats this year, even just in a way to shake up the party and make them more competitive.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/01/2021 10:04

I didn't call you anything. I laughed because someone else posted an Ivor Cummins video.

Dollybagwash · 05/01/2021 10:07

@kurtrussellsbeard my apologies, it appeared right under my post questioning lockdown. My bad.

anon444877 · 05/01/2021 10:11

I've got to find ways to get my steps up @StatisticallyChallenged my dc are reluctant trudgers who hate walking and that was the kicker to the weight gain last lock down, not enough self care. The less exercise I got the more despondent...

Jodri · 05/01/2021 10:12

Who is in charge of the vaccine roll out? Is it Jason leitch or jeane Freeman?
I was disappointed to hear that a team of out patient receptionist in my area, who are hardly seeing any face to face patients, had managed to get vaccinated over those more in need.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/01/2021 10:14

@Jodri this worries me too. I'd like to see clear information about where these vaccines are going. I'd also like to know how many we have and in what timescale we can expect the rest.
