Is it DIY if they are having workmen in ? I mean obviously seeing the comings and goings is different to reading about it on the internet.

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 12:38

Sorry, it's not the homeowners doing work. They have work men in the property just now.

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 12:40

NDNs had parties during lockdown as well. We reported them too back in May. This is why we are still in a rut due to such selfish individuals.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 05/01/2021 12:42

Sorry I see what you meant now!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/01/2021 12:47

I can see plenty of situations where it would be reasonable to continue with work on a house. Pretty painting and decorating can wait, but if the kitchen or bathroom is ripped out already (for example) then some level of work needs to happen to make the house safe and habitable.

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2021 12:51

I think they are allowed workmen especially if the work has started however the workmen should when they can wear masks

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 12:51

There's no ripped out kitchen or bathroom in their front where rest of the rubbish is sitting, but if I saw that would have not reported it. Everyone needs running water/power etc. This comes across as purely cosmetic work that could have waited.

I want my hallway done but it isn't essential so it can wait🤷

SylviasMotherSaid · 05/01/2021 12:58

Blowinahoolie I hope you realise these people will still be your neighbours once this is all over and done you don’t know what’s going on in their house or for what reason

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 12:59

They haven't stopped construction. The men should be socially distanced.

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 13:02

Sylvia they don't talk. Nothing to lose.

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 13:03

They are not socially distanced 😬

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2021 13:05

They are probably finishing what they started.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 05/01/2021 13:08

@Dinnafashyersel I remember the pearl by Steinbeck. I think he also wrote The Red Pony which I think I read in primary school and loved it. I was a big reader. DD only reads if she has to Sad

anon444877 · 05/01/2021 13:13

We've got travels with Charley - I agree with both your posts @Dinnafashyersel

Of nice and men is so sad that it nearly put me off for life, although I can see it's great. Similarly Orwell wrote much fantastic stuff, 1984 and animal farm are my least favourites although I can see they're 'great' too.

I had a medical appointment this morning and it takes me past our local Asda so thought I’d pop in as I’m out and stock up on a few bits we need. I was shocked. Firstly car park and shop was heaving like a Saturday afternoon. Saw at least 5 people with masks under their noses and 3 without masks. Big queues at tills mostly pensioners. The checkout lady was telling me there’s people in everyday sometimes 2/3 times a day because they are fed up, I was shocked as it’s the first day of lockdown I thought it might be quieter. A close friend entire family of five all tested positive recently only place one of them had been recently is this Asda!

I can understand elderly people not having cars and needing to shop regularly but the risks just now with this new variant. I know they are lonely. This is my Dad too I’m beyond arguing with him he won’t stay at home. He talks about wearing a mask and going to the shops when it’s quiet but then tells you he’s popped in to this friends and that friends for a coffee Confused.

Of nice and men is so sad that it nearly put me off for life

Oh really ? Maybe not then. There's going to be enough misery in January as it is. I'll make a list and they can choose. Or maybe a list will come from school, I don't know. It didn't last time.

Rae36 · 05/01/2021 13:19

Queue outside our wee co-op this morning for the first time in months. I get it though, sometimes you've just got to get out and à packet of marshmallows or some fairy liquid becomes essential.

blowinahoolie · 05/01/2021 13:36

Town centre this morning was very busy on my essential trip to opticians to have youngest DC's glasses repaired.

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 13:41

People can't cope with being couped up for too long, it's not nice weather for wandering in parks and other open spaces. Elderly especially will be frightened of falling, so they do what they can within the rules. I bet they don't actually plan to go to the shops 4 times a day but they do it, home, coffee, oh I need xxx I'll just go and get it.

No forward planning of what else they need.

anon444877 · 05/01/2021 13:42

Yes returned recently from fairly empty park - frozen after an hour of jolly japes outside.

Coquohvan · 05/01/2021 13:46

@runningpink People are dealing with this in many ways in varying home/family situations. It’s 100% ok to feel how you are, things can look grim especially in a normal January month.
Come on here and share as posters are very welcoming and understanding.
I’m looking at it now as the last lap is here one more hurdle, vaccination, then restrictions will be more relaxed.
@Groovee thinking of you.

runningpink · 05/01/2021 13:50

I will give the possibility of bubbling some thought @Bikingbear.

Iv managed to get a run and bumped into a couple of people I know. Not friends but a 2 minute conversation which also gave me a wee boost.

I rather luckily have a counselling session this evening. Very well timed on this occasion so I’m hoping that will help ease my anger and upset a bit.

You wouldn’t know it was lockdown on my high street, more from the amount of cars both parked and driving than people.
Although I don’t want and can’t handle anything more strict I am worried that this will drag in longer than it needs to. Guess time will tell.

runningpink · 05/01/2021 13:53

Thanks @Coquohvan I’m always here. Sometimes just lurking away but I’m here. The political stuff goes right over my head!

Think I need a good night sleep and some chocolate! Regretting eating all my Christmas stash!

Dinnafashyersel · 05/01/2021 13:55

Re shops being busy agree with pp about it being the only avenue for social interaction left for many.

Comments on secondary school pupils out at lunchtime left me with a wry smile too. We live next to secondary and primary school. It is very easy to work out what times the children are out and about and thus avoid them. There are a lot of elderly people out and about when they are, I would guess, for the same reason they visit busy supermarkets.

Groovee · 05/01/2021 14:28

@runningpink sending you some hugs x
