But we need the government to tell us where they think the transmission is coming from surely ?

These lockdowns affect poor people much more than better off

Sitting in a flat with 3 kids staring at the walls with no support

And expected to home school

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/01/2021 15:13

Just ask hotelhelp, we’d do our best to get you an ipad if not a laptop.

TeenTraumaTrials · 04/01/2021 15:13

@DollyMixtureLulus

People are still mixing. The amount of people who filmed themselves celebrating the old Firm and put it on FB was crazy. Kids are mixing. ‘Doorstep’ visits and ‘oh we’re in a bubble’. And they’re the ones moaning!
That's the most annoying bit. The people ignoring the existing rules are likely to also ignore the tighter ones while the rest of us get more and more restrictions applied until we can get vaccines in enough people. And the elephant being that no-one knows what 'enough ' is - it's the lack of something to aim for that I find hardest.
littlbrowndog · 04/01/2021 15:15

But the government need to drill down then onto why people are ignoring the rules ?

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 15:15

I'm not really a fan of the nicknames and insults as part of an otherwise serious discussion to be honest (though I may have been guilty of it in the past and it can be really funny at the same time) but i agree that Boris gets called far worse, gets pulled up on stuff much more but that seems to be okay because he's a tory? because he's a man? There is plenty of legitimate ammunition on both just based on how they do their jobs to be honest and using insults such as those just cheapens the argument I think.

If it's done for comedy then I do enjoy it. Nipoleon being a highlight.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 04/01/2021 15:15

So this is sneaky. The Scottish education recovery group meeting mintues were available on the Scottish government website for their last meeting, 23rd December. They have taken the minutes down, obviously because the evidence in this meeting suggested all harms from lockdowns were worse for children than the threat of covid, which is contradictory to closing schools. Such a political move, they really are just destroying childhoods now. Why should children’s lives be put on hold?! I just don’t believe that cases will ever be low enough in the governments opinion for the schools to reopen. Shocked they took those minutes down, it’s going against scientific evidence to close schools for this long!

littlbrowndog - my heart true goes out to you - my kids are older but I don't know how the hell I'd have coped if they were still children. This is a bloody disaster. Another month of this - they should be vaccinating 24/7 and getting everyone done asap this is just outrageous,.
StatisticallyChallenged · 04/01/2021 15:16

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons

StatisticallyChallenged I'd actually have assumed it was related to "nips ma heid" use for someone you find irritating/annoying/won't shut up!

Yes me too & certainly how I have heard it used about wee dogs - all that yapping rather than biting.

Never heard nippy sweetie at all.

I think it's a Glasgow expression possibly? I've never heard it used in real life - only seen it online.
littlbrowndog · 04/01/2021 15:16

I think the model was that 70% would adhere and that was good enough

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 15:19

I think it’s mainly spreading in hospitals and care homes. Then in family units (not rule breakers but if people pick it up in one of those settings it spreads to family)

littlbrowndog · 04/01/2021 15:19

I am not bad bbconeandtwo. Thank you. I come on here for a cheer up 😎 and a moan

But I have friends who are just staring at the walls in despair with their kids

And despairing for the future

Shorternights · 04/01/2021 15:22

Apologies if I’ve missed this, but is informal childcare (by GPs) still permitted do we think? The Parent Club website obviously hasn’t been updated Hmm

This stands out for me. Really bad behaviour removing the minutes, sneaky and someone needs to ask to see those back up.
fluffyugg · 04/01/2021 15:23

I'd also like to know why they think that these new restrictions will get the rates down...because more than two people are meeting up outdoors and that's causing spread? What's the reason behind the lockdown because surely shops/restaurants/pubs closed and no indoor mixing should be enough?!

Ruled · 04/01/2021 15:25

Yes very sneaky! Doesn't imbue trust does it?

Anyone have a copy?

Bytheloch · 04/01/2021 15:25

So much of this today is to protect government from future liability over their handling of this, please do not fall for the narrative that it’s because they ‘care’.
They really don’t have an arsing clue how to solve this, so instead revert back to the panic measures first brought in last March.
That’s almost a years worth of no learnings🤦‍♀️

SNP are accountable for this mess just as much as Tory leadership too.
If only they’d worked together more for the good of the U.K. 🤷‍♀️

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/01/2021 15:35

Could be StatisticallyChallenged although I lived in Glasgow a good few years. most of DH’s family are from Glasgow & use nippy as we described OTOH his mum is famous for using words wrongly Grin

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 04/01/2021 15:37

Thank you for the back up. And I take credit for nipoleon Grin

I agree, BJ has been called some horrible things too. Some justified, some not. Plus NS has been called Nippy by other politicians, including within her own party. Why single me out @TimeforLaChange? (which you absolutely did)

If you don't like what we say on here, go find another thread.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 15:39

None of the four nations have covered themselves in glory sadly.

I'm glad this lockdown is happening now. We are a bit behind England in terms of numbers and strain on NHS and if we can avoid that we absolutely should!

The name calling is pathetic and cringeworthy - best just to ignore it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'd love to see the credentials/ talents/ abilities of those dishing out the names tbh

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 04/01/2021 15:39

I'm not one for policing groups at all but the park yesterday was nuts. Busy with the usual couples and family groups, but loads of groups of 10+. Groups of adults who were very unlikely to live together. I know it barely spreads outside but it does feel like that hypothesis was being well and truly tested yesterday.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 04/01/2021 15:39

Its a bit nippy outside, is is sexist of me to say that? Or should I be polite and non-regional and simply say its cold? Grin

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 04/01/2021 15:40

Wish I had screen shotted it now, but seeing as they claim to be open, honest and transparent about how they arrive at the decisions they do, one wouldn’t expect them to go back and take the “evidence” away. But they have.

Coquohvan · 04/01/2021 15:40

FM said 900k vaccines by month end. Then why only 2.5m by end of May?
Astra I heard on BBC News are churning out 2m doses a week!
So sorry for those who have to WFH and online school and those who work outside home aren’t classed as essential workers with no childcare.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 15:44

Seems strange re the vaccines. I would have hoped it would go quicker than that. Hopefully they are strategic.

MissEliza · 04/01/2021 15:45

@WouldBeGood

But that’s off the point. It’s really boring all this “you hate the SNP on here” stuff.

It’s been discussed and put to bed. The SNP and Ms Sturgeon are getting it because they are the government.

This is a supportive thread, so if all you want to do is moan about anti SNP shite then just fuck off to the Nicola is great thread.

Brilliant post.
