@Cismyfatarse

Patrick Harvie has a picture of a Dalek behind him.

Do you think it is a family portrait?

Probs 😂😂😂

StatisticallyChallenged
I haven't ever heard it used about anyone other than women and pretty much only about NS in the last few years as it is an old style insult. I guess gendered slurs are fine when you dont like the target's politics

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/01/2021 14:50

@anon444877

I've only heard it as 'a bit nippy' ie hurts - which this does. Nippy pretty mild compared to a lot of things.
I'd actually have assumed it was related to "nips ma heid" use for someone you find irritating/annoying/won't shut up!
anon444877 · 04/01/2021 14:51

I didn't know that @StatisticallyChallenged but that usage makes sense too!

TimeforLaChange · 04/01/2021 14:51

And Jack Russels would be literally nippy, not quite the same

BBCONEANDTWO · 04/01/2021 14:53

Are dentists closed? What about fishing and golf? What the heck are parents going to do this is a bloody disaster.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/01/2021 14:55

Are we really having a massive derail about "nippy" as an insult. I've seen BoJo called far worse (including dick and cunt) without derail...

I don't agree it's gendered. You think it is. You don't get to call me sexist based on your opinion, and the evidence that nippy derives from nippy sweetie is very much lacking given it's a word with multiple meanings. There are many things I am but sexist is absolutely not one of them.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/01/2021 14:56

childcare

We'll do everything we can to help, keyworker provision, possibility for informal childcare where there are no other alternatives, work with businesses to make sure they're helping, looking in short order at what practical including financial support we can offer.

I always took it as a compliment - no woman in a position of power wants to be thought of as a soft touch surely?

anon444877 · 04/01/2021 14:59

Yes was slowly typing what @StatisticallyChallenged said.

Fuck knows what parents are going to do with young kids but I can see a return to Latch key kids.
Dinnafashyersel · 04/01/2021 15:01

childcare - "we'll do everything we can" They're the Govt causing the issue so surely clearly they're responsibility to have come up with the solution before causing the problem.

We are almost a year on from the initial panic - plenty time to learn.

Waiting here for the looking to be inevitable request to come and collect my DD1 from Uni Halls.

Dinnafashyersel · 04/01/2021 15:03

Sorry my theirs and they'res are all over the joint such is my irritation.

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 15:04

@StatisticallyChallenged it's really not up to you to decide if people think you are sexist.
This has all been discussed on here before, PLEASE can Scotsnet just stop with all the anti SNP stuff. It would be great if we could just be a bit more inclusive.

TimeforLaChange · 04/01/2021 15:05

No, it comes from 'Nippy Sweetie'...

And I was not calling YOU sexist Stat. In fact I didn't call anyone sexist, but simply said that it was a gendered insult. Which it is. And I am at liberty to post that if I wish. Do keep on using gendered insults about the First Minister if that makes you happy.

littlbrowndog · 04/01/2021 15:06

I don’t understand

Where is the transmission coming from

We not been allowed in houses since September

Cafe pubs restaurants have mostly been shut from 6 pm

Pubs have not been open

We have been wearing masks everywhere since seems like 1999

So how and why has it been spreading ?

It’s like same old stuff. Lockdown release. Lockdown release

It’s doesn’t seem to work.

TeenTraumaTrials · 04/01/2021 15:06

@Ruled

Provision from the schools really bloody better step up from last lockdown!!"
She was asked about this Ruled and blabbed on about e-sgoil, devices given out and online resources. Which is very different to the online teaching that parents actually want.

Plus no mention of those in exam years. My DD is in S4 and due to have the majority of the 'standardised assessments ' her grades are supposed to be based on in Jan. She'd already been told on last day by teachers that w/c 11th would be revision for them. So I expect no new learning until start Feb. Given we have Feb week w/c 8th i can't see kids going back until mid Feb. Plus she missed a week and a half in Dec due to being a contact.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 15:06

Patrick Harvie is definitely nippy

Yes me too & certainly how I have heard it used about wee dogs - all that yapping rather than biting.

Never heard nippy sweetie at all.

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/01/2021 15:09

People are still mixing. The amount of people who filmed themselves celebrating the old Firm and put it on FB was crazy. Kids are mixing. ‘Doorstep’ visits and ‘oh we’re in a bubble’. And they’re the ones moaning!

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 15:09

But that’s off the point. It’s really boring all this “you hate the SNP on here” stuff.

It’s been discussed and put to bed. The SNP and Ms Sturgeon are getting it because they are the government.

This is a supportive thread, so if all you want to do is moan about anti SNP shite then just fuck off to the Nicola is great thread.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 15:10

@littlbrowndogig just doesn’t work.

TimeforLaChange · 04/01/2021 15:10

Yes well maybe one of those famous MN threads which explain the meaning of phrases would be helpful.

Hotelhelp · 04/01/2021 15:11

Anyone know if schools are willing/able to provide laptops for kids? My sons only have android tablets which were pretty hopeless for homeschooling last time. We’re not in free school meals category or anything but could really do without spending £500 on two laptops right now!
