Yeah judge I’ve heard anecdotes about people being stopped going over the bridge. I was hoping to head into Dundee (from Angus) today to go to Asda and Home Bargains but now I’m not so sure.

Cismyfatarse · 04/01/2021 11:13

We live just across from you @JudgeRindersMinder and have not heard of people being stopped going to Dundee or to Fife. Agh!!! I live in Fife and work in Dundee but can't see how stopping cars does anything other than expose police to people with virus.

Madness.

Desperately hoping NS doesn't stop our builders coming back to finish our renovations this week. They have about 10 days left to complete everything.

I was flicking through the channels as also currently confined to the house due to ice.

And there was a doctor on This Morning who said that with one dose of the vaccine it provides I think it was 70% protection. But the key thing was that it was enough to prevent death or hospital admissions.

So that does make more sense as to why they would rather get more people with one dose.

Bytheloch · 04/01/2021 11:19

You can’t be pulled over on spec! You need to commit a traffic offence to be pulled over without reason. There’s a lot of whispers about the fines, but a pause here for Police Scotland who are trying to do their regular work whilst managing the government overeach that is travel bans.
As long as we don’t arrive in a community with symptoms, the open shops are covid safe (whatever that means🤷‍♀️ Hand sanitizer will save us, right?) and behave responsibly for the sake of the local community, you will not be fined for just driving. Just don’t speed across the bridge without tax or insurance and you’ll be fine.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 11:26

Just heard an advert on the radio about the return to school, talked about the online learning and vulnerable/key worker DC and then finished with "nursery children will return on the 18th". Unless I missed something (possible as I was getting laundry out the basket" it did not mention school children return.

JudgeRindersMinder · 04/01/2021 11:26

@Bytheloch and @Cismyfatarse, I work for a certain organisation and have knowledge unfortunately 🙄. It wouldn’t just be a fine for me but major bother at work - I can be quite blasé about some aspects of the roolz but this is a chance I can’t take unfortunately

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 11:28

Surely there are many exemptions so it wouldn't be that hard to have a reason to travel ready? It's not like your plans are of any risk to anyone.

runningpink · 04/01/2021 11:32

If it’s the same advert I’m thinking of then it’s been broadcast last few days. I think it is based on the current rules etc and wouldn’t be surprised if it changes by this evening!
WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 11:35

Probably @runningpink I wondered if they were happy that the 18th would still be the case for nurseries to return but that they didn't mention schools as they weren't willing to commit?

runningpink · 04/01/2021 11:38

I don’t think they have a clue. They are grasping at straws.

NewYearTypicalMe · 04/01/2021 11:39

Wonder if this will be what's announced later? Or another plan?

Bikingbear · 04/01/2021 11:41

Remember your allowed to travel 5 miles outwith the council boundary for exercise.
Check the rules for essential shopping I think there's an exception for it too.

Waxon I pray your right about nursery kids. And I was thinking they can spend lots of time outdoors and have small groups rather than a class of 30.🤞

Taking the wee one out the equation does much more than half my issues. We can just about cope working with the older kid doing school work but I cannot keep him focused, work and entertain the LO at the same time.

Sturmundcalm · 04/01/2021 11:42

Just checking in - these threads move too fast for me to post much...

Although was interested in @WaxOnFeckOff (I think!) DH's weird allergies ruling out memory foam mattress as I've never tried one cause my parents had one and if I sat on it (on top of duvet/bedding) I would feel like I was about to faint. Wandering around Waterstones 10-15 years ago used to have same effect!

Am currently in the house feeling like a caged animal cause I want to go out a walk (BIG walk) but can see hellish ice in every direction and my ice-grippers aren't due delivered till sometime this afternoon Wine

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 11:43

Dundee is in Angus though?

Bikingbear · 04/01/2021 11:44

We've cancelled sledging because of the ice too.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 04/01/2021 11:47

Sadly it’s not in terms of local authority areas. I live just on the boundary between the two.

Bytheloch · 04/01/2021 11:47

@JudgeRindersMinder I hear you. I have a friend who is in that position too, specifically for her profession she is strictly following the guidance, as to be pulled over or questioned elsewhere would be complicated, that isn’t to say she agrees at all with the travel restrictions.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 11:49

@MamaTookMyEyebrows honestly, I wouldn’t give that a second thought. Just go.

Bikingbear · 04/01/2021 12:07

Mama have you seen the maps that someone linked to that includes the 5 mile radius?

Look on the Scotsnet and you'll find it. Personally I don't believe these comments about fines getting given out. I'm sure folk just like winding other folk up who then don't know it's a wind up and spread the rumour in good faith.

Bit like some other urban myths that people believe, stupid things like collecting ring pills of cans for charities, no charities actually collect them, but people do it because a friend of a friend does it.

Rae36 · 04/01/2021 12:09

What time are we hearing, does anyone know? I can't concentrate, it's ridiculous.

Bikingbear · 04/01/2021 12:11

2pm apparently but allow waffle and faff time blaa blaa blaa, 2.45 by the time she gets to the point.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 04/01/2021 12:12

Thanks Biking I hadn’t seen that I’ll have a look.

Jodri · 04/01/2021 12:32

@WouldBeGood, no Dundee is not in Angus. They are two separate councils.
The council boundary is very tight round the city and it is confusing as often postal addresses are all over the place.

Rae36 · 04/01/2021 12:42

Please let us still be able to meet a friend outside. Please. I'll go mad if I can't. And the kids will be so sad if they can't. (Dh bizarrely doesn't seem to mind not seeing anyone, he's weird)

Groovee · 04/01/2021 12:44

The nursery I work in is outdoors. Wondering if we'll be allowed to return as attendance has been 99.8% from the children. Staff obviously not all absence has been illness.
