Sprouts are a very popular snack in bars in New York

NotAnActualSheep · 23/12/2020 20:01

Well, they are Wrong. Sprouts are the Devil's Boogers.

Snowdrop30 · 23/12/2020 20:07

@NotAnActualSheep can you try try chopping them up and stir frying then with bacon and chestnuts? My DH did that one year, and I was a convert

Dinnafashyersel · 23/12/2020 20:08

You're all making me feel very grateful for my dysfunctional family. Not meeting up is no hardship for us all cos we aren't very good at compromise and congenial chitchat. We get on much better in small doses and everyone gets to choose their own dinner and TV. Grin

On a lighter note the German airliners are helping to beat the French lettuce blockade. Guess there must be one or two airlines sitting around doing not that much atm. Xmas Grin

rookiemere · 23/12/2020 20:10

I have to say that course 3 of Six By Nicos current Miracle on Menu which is "Who hates Brussel sprouts " is one of the most divine things I have ever tasted. Shame nobody else will get to taste it unless you get lucky with a cancellation tomorrow.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 23/12/2020 20:13

I need some flowers. Still not heard from my dream job about whether I made the next round. Really depressed. I need some good news this year. I hope they are still deciding and are not one of those employers who just don't bother telling you Sad

Coquohvan · 23/12/2020 20:19

@Iwillneverbesatisfied just for you Flowers hope your hear back after Christmas.

NotAnActualSheep · 23/12/2020 20:21

I've tried all the tricks I'm afraid. I just never manage to disguise their innate sproutiness. I've not tried them in cake, but I fear that may just be a waste of good cake. Having said that, I do eat them to set an example to DS. I suppose stir-fried is as good a way as any! (can't do bacon though as I'm veggie!)

Good to know there will be lettuces with greater air mile accumulation this year than me. Xmas Grin
NotAnActualSheep · 23/12/2020 20:27

Oh, I'm sorry iwillnever. I hate it when they just don't get back to you at all. Fingers crossed you will either hear tomorrow ("last day in the office") or after Christmas. Has sufficient time lapsed when you can chase it up or ask for feedback on the application? Anyway, Flowers for you, because it is really grim.

WouldBeGood · 23/12/2020 20:27

@NotAnActualSheep 😂 filthy New York sprout eaters!

Horehound · 23/12/2020 20:30

Morning ladies. Knew it was only a matter of time before our dear leader broke the rules herself. As PPs said, if it was a member of the public you'd have sympathy, but not the person who should be leading by example.. Bloody hypocrite. She wouldn't let Boris or Ruth away with doing this would she?
Only a matter of time? It's been 9 months ffs
WaxOnFeckOff · 23/12/2020 20:33

I love sprouts!!

It's weird because in many other aspects of food I'm probably a supertaster and therefore shouldn't like them. I didn't however try them until I was an adult so don't have childhood memories to conquer.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 23/12/2020 20:42

I think that was the point @Horehound 9 months is a long time for anyone to endure this bollocks for

Me too. I love all the food though. January is going to be tough

www.mashed.com/300870/brussels-sprouts-used-to-taste-a-lot-different-heres-why/

Back in the day they were very bitter, my mum bless her said I had to eat one.

Now they are less bitter due to science taking them in hand.
My lot love them steamed in cut in half then pan fried with lardons butter and garlic.
I do them up to pan fried Christmas Eve as with all veggies. Yum.

littlbrowndog · 23/12/2020 20:54

I like them with plenty of butter. Butter makes everything better

littlbrowndog · 23/12/2020 20:55

Steamed stir fried with bacon and more butter sounds 👌

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 23/12/2020 20:57

I’m a super taster too but hate sprouts - I could quite happily live on broccoli though! —my appearance makes it clear that I do NOT Grin—

Iwillneverbesatisfied urgh that sucks I hope you hear good news soon Flowers

Thank you for the tear inducing suggestions! Grey’s Anatomy makes me stabby rather than sobby Xmas Grin but lonely penguins would make me sob - my usual standby is the first Star Trek film Confused that first 5 mins when Kirk’s father goes down with the ship is all I need Xmas Grin (in my defence I was 9 months pregnant the first time I saw it & the birth/parted from baby etc etc was too much - I’ve never recovered my senses...)

Parmesan sprouts - these are amazing

damndelicious.net/2016/09/13/parmesan-brussels-sprouts/

Am a sprout lover - with bacon, without, chestnuts but these were amazing.

Ahhhh. Deep fried with cheese. Now, you might be onto something there actually.
Dinnafashyersel · 23/12/2020 21:12

Sitting watching Jesus Christ Superstar on SkyArts. Fab production from New York. Completely wasted on me cos I really really miss live community theatre and school shows.

rookiemere · 23/12/2020 21:14

Motherland is pretty damn good.

Rae36 · 23/12/2020 21:39

Motherland was really funny. It's the first thing that has made me properly laugh in a while.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 23/12/2020 21:43

I got through to the next round - just got the email! I've to do a written task and email it back by start of January. Its a bit of a tough task so need to devote all my time to researching it etc. But still.....yay!
