@anon444877 ooh cheeses for a Christmas present. He's a keeper.
DH kindly bought the Didrikson jacket i'd been lusting after, but not so kindly bought it two sizes too big Confused. Then proceeded to tell me that it was a big sized brand.

anon444877 · 26/12/2020 17:56

I love Didrikson, great coats. Not good about the sizes though I always find those sorts of coats hard to size myself.

I did get champagne and other wine too, I'm highly predictable and I got virtually the same last year, and have already asked for the same next year - I fear a post Christmas diet is going to have to wait several days to start!

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 26/12/2020 17:59

Now is not the time for dieting or sobriety anon

I bought cheese with port in it?! We like cheese and we like port but I predict disappointment.

polarisation · 26/12/2020 18:38

The 2m cracker had to be stabbed in the middle to get it to rip. Can't easily anonymise a photo of us pulling it, but here's a photo of half of it on my 93cm 3yo for scale?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/12/2020 19:00

BiL bought me the same eyeshadow palette as he bought for my birthday Grin I'd promised not to wind him up about being old on Christmas day but I'm afraid that promise was broken.

We had to abandon crackers full stop as MIL's dog - who had to come despite being a cat hunting terrier- decided he was scared of them and leapt in to her arms at the table.

It's a pj day today. Dd and I have gone boxing day shopping together the last few years and I'm kind of missing it. It was a nice bonding time

rookiemere · 26/12/2020 19:13

Meat fondue not terribly successful.

I hadn't cleaned the copper fondue we took from my parents so it's become green and smelly - tomorrow's project is to clean it up - and the inferior one we bought in Morningside is very hard to get to the right temperature so you either end up with raw chicken or get spat at with boiling oil.

Still it was a bit of novelty and got the youngling out of his lair.

anon444877 · 26/12/2020 20:20

@polarisation that cracker is great. Cheese and port could be nice? Interesting idea. @StatisticallyChallenged a cat hunting terrier? That does not sound like fun.

Ah fondue, it's so hard to get right, I quite fancy it though. Time for more cheese gromit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/12/2020 20:57

Yup @anon444877, a large terrier who hunts everything that moves and has been taught "go get that cat" Angry

anon444877 · 26/12/2020 21:02

Hmmm you're braver than me, I'd be saying no really, we'll come to you next year, or eat out! Let's hope we can go out by this time next year...

runningpink · 27/12/2020 07:03

Is there an update this week at all? I know we will all remain in level 4.
But trying to prepare myself for any update to the stupid rules If she goes even stricter on us.
Anxiety is slowly creeping in again.

anon444877 · 27/12/2020 07:34

I see the statement that rules may be tightened on bbc but no timeline, typical, only as the picture becomes clearer. I'd put money on a statement Monday or Tuesday?

Sorry to hear the anxiety is ratcheting up @runningpink

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 27/12/2020 07:54

I think they're sticking with the Tuesday 'review' unless there's a sudden need for changes at 5.30 on Saturday evening. Hmm
I don't believe a booze ban will happen, but think I'll grab a couple of extra bottles today just in case... (funnily enough booze ban autocorrected to booze van. If she bans supermarket booze I'm sure there will be plenty of booze vans on the go!)

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 27/12/2020 07:58

There have been vague threats to put the instruction 'stay at home as far as possible' into law, but surely you can't make a law involving the words ' as far as possible'. Laws have been to be specific and not subject to misinterpretation. They'd have to say 'stay at home unless you're going out for ...' with a massive list (exercise / work / childcare / dentist / buying animal food / caring, etc, etc, etc) that would allow most people who had the desire to, to get round it anyway.

rookiemere · 27/12/2020 08:08

I have a horrible feeling they will strip away the 6 teenager outdoors thing. That was my get out of jail card for DS 14 to keep playing football and seeing his pals outside.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 27/12/2020 08:52

It'll be horrible, but logically if teenagers are spreading it at the same rate as adults I'm surprised it's lasted so long.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/12/2020 08:58

Crikey, just got the Scottish government's tier 4 covid ad on Facebook- the one with the green paint and the tea making? Horrid

SymbollocksInteractionism · 27/12/2020 09:40

I've just had a look on the 'rate per 100,000' thread in the coronavirus topic.
The rates for some of the London boroughs have doubled over the past week!!

rookiemere · 27/12/2020 09:41

@icanboogieboogiewoogie technically I know you're right, but they are outside so different from being in a stuffy classroom. I just feel so sad because DS has lost all the weight and flabbiness from the last lockdown and is turning into a handsome young man ( if I say so myself).

I daresay another couple of months of inaction and less than ideal schooling won't scar him for life, but I just feel so sad about it, particularly as I don't think he realises how long they are likely to be at home for.

I've mentally set myself up for them being at home until Feb half term, just hoping it's not longer than that. To be fair to SG I think it is better to know now what's happening at the start of term and definitive decision to be reviewed for 18/01 much better than in England where they have no idea yet.

WouldBeGood · 27/12/2020 09:44

@rookiemere that’s happened with my boy too. He’d just started at the gym and was doing more and eating less. I feel really sad about another lockdown for him.

Bytheloch · 27/12/2020 09:54

The green paint ad is disgusting. At what level are these propaganda ads signed off- right at the top, I’m guessing.

I’ve assumed Tuesday will be the tightening of screws. I’m inclined to believe the booze aisle rumour, because that could also prevent all those illicit house/street parties we can’t be trusted to not have, for Hogmanay too. Police Scotland can’t police our dirty McLevel areas on Hogmanay as they’re too busy patrolling the imaginary border ready to pounce on fellow U.K. citizens who dare to disobey our great leader.

anon444877 · 27/12/2020 09:59

I'm glad I've never seen a scot gov covid ad - I wonder how I've missed that treat. A friend has just posted that 'sunshine and smiles aren't banned'. She doesn't live in Scotland obviously!

rookiemere · 27/12/2020 10:02

I don't really understand the alcohol sales thing. Surely everyone has got wind of the rumours and would just but their booze in advance. Or are some people's lives so chaotic they can only buy alcohol at the point they are going to drink it - and if that was the case surely it would only apply to an infinitesimally small percentage of the population?

@WouldBeGood DHs tendency to throw money at problems may be useful for us as he recently purchased a home weights machine and second hand running machine (although it's not great) so hoping DS will revert to using that.

anon444877 · 27/12/2020 10:26

I suppose people having parties sometimes go out for top up booze? Who knows, severe weather warning for snow/ice today.

fluffyugg · 27/12/2020 10:26

Where have you seen the booze ban rumours?
