@Dinnafashyersel

Very depressing here. My Facebook last night was full of posts from local businesses opting to mothball for the rest of the winter rather than continue with tier roulette.
Can't say I blame them. The potential losses from buying in supplies then being told to close are massive.

On a slightly random but related note, is anyone else seriously considering putting their tree up early? I'm normally firmly in the "December only" category but it's been such a shit year that I'm tempted

blowinahoolie · 18/11/2020 10:37

Interested to see what Swinney has to say later on....will schools close or will they do the blended learning?

Only time will tell.

blowinahoolie · 18/11/2020 10:39

Tempted too Statistically. Someone in a nearby street has had their tree up since beginning of the month. After a while of thinking it through, can't blame them. What else is there to look forward to in these dark days.

Bikingbear · 18/11/2020 10:59

Dinnafashyersel
I can't blame them, it makes the most business sense, its exactly what Gleneagles have done and many more will follow. I just hope the smaller businesses are able to weather the storm.

I know grants are available but not every business or enterprise qualify for them. Some because they are astute and have a little in reserve.

My tree will be going up as soon as I'm organized. I'm a little old fashioned, I need the house cleaned (that includes DSs midden) before the tree goes up.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/11/2020 11:25

@StatisticallyChallenged, I'm leaving the tree till December but have draped fairy light over as much as I can before DH starts noticing. I think he's starting to worry about my mental health, so I'm taking advantage. Wink

I've got mini trees out and definitely planning to get some lights out soon plus wreath. The dc are like 'it's chriiiiiistmass' and there's nothing else to do so...my botanics lights I'd booked has been cancelled, sob!

I nearly bought myself another advent calendar to see off every day of this sodding year remaining!

I'm ordering online mostly anyway - what's the betting Edinburgh goes to t4 at some point? I'm ordering it early (in fact I've got several presents already). You only need a glut of end of November orders for the warehouses and deliveries to pile up a backlog....

Callisto1 · 18/11/2020 11:37

The botanics lights have been cancelled? Shock
I hope Edinburgh doesn't go to tier 4, we've just booked the winter kids activities and payed for them, but I'm taking one week at a time!

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 11:39

They've cancelled 26-29 nov - I'm so keen I'd booked the first day! I hope I can rebook it for later and that doesn't also get cancelled!

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 11:42

You're kidding. We had that booked
StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 11:44

Yeah they're still advertising it

nibdedibble · 18/11/2020 11:48

Edinburgh’s numbers are not that bad, though, last time I looked, it was under the threshold for level 2 so what’s going on? There must be a reason but ffs just tell people

Mrsjayy · 18/11/2020 11:48

Ah thank you for clarifying the Ruth mystery. I thought he was an MP but didn't want to appear stupid 😄

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 12:00

I don't know why they cancelled 26-29 nov at botanics, doesn't say. I've rebooked and hope that sticks!

Possums4evr · 18/11/2020 12:03

Have you been before Anon? We've been to the Chinese lanterns at the zoo, but I haven't tried the Botanics before.

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 12:06

I've been most years for the last 4! One year it was cancelled for bad weather, another year we were offered to cancel or go, and we went and it was freeeeeezing and rainy and dc moaned the whole time, and 2 other times it was wonderful.

I'm not too keen on the Santa but I'm sure it appeals to some.

I hear Hopetoun house has a great light show too.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 18/11/2020 12:09

Urgh the botanic lights are the only thing keeping my mum going at this point I hope the later dates stay on.

Botanics was closed for high winds the other day I wonder if damage/delay to set up has made them push the start date? —can’t be covid oh no nothing to see here with my head buried in the sand—

Callisto1 · 18/11/2020 12:45

Ah so they cancelled some of the earlier dates. Thanks for clarifying. I was just surprised because we booked recently. Hope the other dates will be ok!

Possums4evr · 18/11/2020 12:46

NS just now "More than a thousand extra teachers in schools already" - this translates to one per secondary. That has no impact on social distancing or class sizes.

littlbrowndog · 18/11/2020 12:56

Test and protect meant to supply raw data

littlbrowndog · 18/11/2020 12:57

Show the data so people can understand where the transmission is coming from.

Missed most of the programme justcaught the end

Callisto1 · 18/11/2020 12:57

As lovely as extra teachers are. Our primary has over 600 pupils and 1 extra teacher so it's a drop in the ocean.

Rae36 · 18/11/2020 13:05

Do we mean Glasgow Botanics or Edinburgh have cancelled? We've booked in Edinburgh but haven't heard of any problems with our date

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 13:07

Oh dear I've created some panic - Edinburgh botanics cancelled for 26-29 nov. They didn't say why but theory is perhaps weather caused setup delays and rest will be ok hopefully!

Sorry - I know it's all most of us are looking forward to this Christmas!

Callisto1 · 18/11/2020 13:09

Think we're all desperate for some Christmas cheer Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 13:15

Just any cheer at all, frankly
