@titsbumfannythelot

No imagination/ no alternative
Yip, The last election Labour were no where to be seen and far too many won't vote Tory because of stuff that happened 30/40 odd years ago.
Rae36 · 18/11/2020 07:15

Did you read about S Australia's mini lockdown in the news? 6 days of tough lockdown followed by another 7? less restrictive. Struck me that this approach is much more sensible than our approach of dragging half measures out for months.

But they are starting from a lower base so maybe wouldn't do anything for us

RaspberryCoulis · 18/11/2020 07:57

you and your 3 non-mask wearing pals in asda spreading it to the old dears

Agree with the "going round your mates for a carryout bit", but there is zero evidence that people are getting Covid from walking past a bam in Asda. Mask or otherwise.

OOAOML · 18/11/2020 08:47

In the supermarkets here people coughing their way round is not unusual. And a few weeks ago a member of staff stocking the shelves sneezed on their hands then carried on which is rank even if there isn't a pandemic.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/11/2020 08:57

I wonder if anyone is still bleaching their shopping. Because it seems to me that there's a possibility it could be spreading on surfaces? I've friends who caught it, and have no idea when. Wfh, not eating out, literally only went to the supermarket.

I'm not, and only really did it once or twice before I realised that touching shopping, santising, touching bags, sanitising, touching shopping, accidentally touching my face, touching the fridge, the kids touching the bags, sanitising them, sanitising myself... was quickly going to turn me into a basket case. Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 08:58

This is the fundamental problem. SNP are stale, they have basically had no real competition since indyref. Labour have been useless, even people who like Tory policies often won't vote Tory "because of Margaret Thatcher"...it's not a politically healthy situation and you can see it in the increasingly authoritarian policies and regulations which SNP keep trying to put through

AFAIK there seems to be relavely little evidence of surface transmission of Covid. It sits on surfaces, but attempts to culture it from swabs were unsuccessful suggesting it's not actually very likely that touching a contaminated surface will result in a covid infection
Mrsjayy · 18/11/2020 09:09

I've never bleached shopping I just sanitized my way round the supermarket and then washed my hands the thought of wiping down food packaging is to much of an effort.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 09:39

I think the surfaces thing has been pretty much debunked now.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 09:41

I also agree that an effective opposition would make a huge difference to the country and the authoritarian nature of government.

I’d also like someone to vote for whiz not obsessed with football and alcohol and hate speech. I won’t vote SNP because of their misogyny.

Really hoping Labour can step up

littlbrowndog · 18/11/2020 09:46

That is a problem for our country. No effective opposition.

Never washed shopping !

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/11/2020 09:50

That's interesting. That was always my belief but they're still saying about wiping things down in their adverts.
StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 09:58

I sometimes think the wiping down advice is as much about giving people something to do as anything else - keeps it in their mind that there's an evil killer virus on the loose...

(cynical, moi?)

mylittleyumyum · 18/11/2020 10:02

Hiiii, i'm late to this party. proffers pickles, cheese and ham cubes on cocktail sticks

Possums4evr · 18/11/2020 10:04

Anyone know when Swinney is on today? Had a look at tv listings but couldn't see anything

Mrsjayy · 18/11/2020 10:06

Shows how much I pay attention. Why is Ruth Davidson acting opposition ?

AgentCooper · 18/11/2020 10:06

This would have been much more sensible, and folk would likely be more willing to comply with it. We probably could have done in Scotland a bit earlier on.

I just can’t believe it’s going to be illegal for DH to go and see his dad in Irvine (from Glasgow). He’s mid-80s, been in an out of hospital for a couple of months and was allowed to visit in hospital in the past week because they genuinely thought the end was coming. But he’s tough as old boots and will be allowed home on Friday and DH isn’t allowed to go and stand at his mum and dad’s door Sad

Mrsjayy · 18/11/2020 10:07

It'll be this afternoon look on Bbc Scotland they show politics live

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 18/11/2020 10:07

@littlbrowndog

Where have you seen that?
This table was on the BBC website yesterday.

Fears For Tiers
littlbrowndog · 18/11/2020 10:15

It was on either stv news or bbc news

One of them

Am not even sure what day it is tbh !

Possums4evr · 18/11/2020 10:18

Thanks @Mrsjayy

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 10:25

Hi, @mylittleyumyum sounds tasty!

@ICouldHaveCheckedFirst what’s the chart mean? I’m
In my phone and old and stupid

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 10:25

@Mrsjayy

Shows how much I pay attention. Why is Ruth Davidson acting opposition ?
Because the new Scottish Tory leader, Douglass Ross, is an MP, not an MSP. She's acting as the leader in the Scottish Parliament until the next election at Holyrood when he'll stand as an MSP (presumably he'll stand for a seat and be at the top of the list, but maybe he'll just go list)

After that she becomes Baroness Davidson and is off to the House of Lords.

Dinnafashyersel · 18/11/2020 10:30

Icouldhavechecked that chart is a bit misleading as it is only for the most recent week. Suspect littlebrowndog may have seen a quote about the previous week when "excess deaths" for E&W were around 1,000 but for Scotland they were 175 making us "the worst" for that week by head of population. (On a YTD basis England is about 55 and Scotland is 5k so basically the same per head)

They can get the stats to say whatever they like atm just by flexing the time frames, testing and definitions. Lies, lies and damned stats and all that ....

Dinnafashyersel · 18/11/2020 10:32

Very depressing here. My Facebook last night was full of posts from local businesses opting to mothball for the rest of the winter rather than continue with tier roulette.
