I don't know but I can see the logic to closing on the 11th.

Having just dealt with a 3yo self isolating, supposed to stick to one room, not allowed to leave the house and I can honestly say I wouldn't relish trying to do that over Christmas.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 23/11/2020 09:15

So DD is already self isolating (and bored stiff) and now DH says his boss and colleague have both tested positive although DH has not been told to self isolate (yet). Said colleague went on holiday and did not quarantine upon returning it seems.

littlbrowndog · 23/11/2020 09:35

This new vaccination sounds good.

I hope it’s rolled out here soon.

I also hope the rollout is better than the ongoing flu jab debacle.

I know someone still waiting and their vaccination has been cancelled twice

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 23/11/2020 09:46

I think a lot of the issue with the flu jabs this year is because GPS aren't doing anything administering it so it's required massive new systems. My GP used to have a couple of drop in days, for all categories of people who needed them, and do most of them then.

NotAnActualSheep · 23/11/2020 10:16

Have to say, I'm pleased about Christmas. I understand the "the virus doesn't know its Christmas" argument, and that it isn't worth "undoing" everything for a day leading to restrictions in January that may not otherwise have been needed and so on. But:

  1. people would meet anyway. If there were no relaxation of the rules, the thinking would be "well, we're breaking the rules anyway - so why not meet x, y and z too, and over hogmanay too". And as others have said, who would police it?! Having unpopular rules which the governments know people will break, and no way of enforcing them isn't really a good look...and will set people up for "twisting" the rules into the new year too.

  2. I'm fed up with those of us who are generally "rule abiding" getting the shitty end of the stick. If there hadn't been any relaxation, we'd have stayed at home over Christmas - while many wouldn't have. So we'd still have to suffer any increased restrictions in January without having any of the fun. I know...not logical at all, as the more people mix the worse things could be...but it seems unfair that just as much of the weight falls on everyone. People who don't want to meet, don't have to - just as people who didn't want to do stuff in the summer, for whatever reason, didn't have to. It didn't make any difference to the overall outcome.

  3. I really really want to see my parents, inside someone's house - and not have to faff around with walks or cafes, when they have difficulty hearing with the ambient noise. This is the thing that's been forbidden since September, when we were able to do other stuff (at least to some degree). This is what we're being "allowed" (albeit to the detriment of other parts of the economy - which I don't agree is necessary, really, but hey) so I'm going to fucking take it. As it happens - it doesn't particularly need to have been over Christmas for us (though we do celebrate it as a religious festival too - all of which is going to pot this year) - but given we've been in this state since September and are likely to be til March or so, a controlled amnesty somewhere in the middle of all this shit is pretty necessary for mental health IMO.

And I agree - excellent news about the vaccines!

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 10:23

It makes a massive difference if they have extra lockdowns either side to facilitate it

rookiemere · 23/11/2020 10:40

How about Hogmanae for a snappy new title?

IwishIwasyoda · 23/11/2020 10:43

I don't give a flying fuck about christmas but am glad I will be able to see my mum and dad.

However, I don't understand the logic. 4 households is huge when we are toiling under tier 3&4 because of concern about the number of virus cases (supposedly). Yet we are prepared to allow 4 households to meet - fucking hate the inconsistency of it all.

And no doubt schools with have to shut / there will be a complete lockdown in January to deal with the aftermath.

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 10:43

😂 great title

anon444877 · 23/11/2020 10:47

I love hogmanae too! Like everything else to do with covid Christmas is a divisive issue - take heart though, 2021 will be different however we shuffle through the back end of this awful year!

rookiemere · 23/11/2020 10:48

Ok I have started the new thread. I'm pish poor at links but it's in Scotsnet so please all flock over whilst respecting social distancing Smile.

Bikingbear · 23/11/2020 10:49

Actualsheep I totally agree, especially point 3. I desperately want to spend time with my mum. I miss her so much. I'm not interested in big parties but I want to hug, truly hug my mum.

I've been pinning my hope's that Boris (with big family would come up with something).

Just thinking I suspected that we'd have the current tier 4 lockdown until the 11th
and then the schools would close as this isn't bringing the rates down.
I never thought about the schools closing on 11th to save Self isolating over Christmas.
Do people actually believe shops etc will be allowed to reopen?

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 10:49

@anon444877 I’m just crabbit today as fuck all to do and period from hell

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 10:50

I don’t think hugging will be legally permitted

Bikingbear · 23/11/2020 10:53

@WouldBeGood

I don’t think hugging will be legally permitted
And is Queen Nik going to be looking over my shoulder. I can see that in front of a judge - a week in the Bar-l for hugging your mum.

Actually I think that's going to be the thing it will be one bubble of 3 households. Anyone goes down with the virus all would need to SI

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 10:57

@Bikingbear 😂

anon444877 · 23/11/2020 11:09

@WouldBeGood and it's a Monday, a cold one after a rainy weekend near the end of one of the worst years (for most of us) in recent times.

I've had my Christmas tunes on for cheeriness.

NotAnActualSheep · 23/11/2020 11:15

@WouldBeGood

I don’t think hugging will be legally permitted
True. Though I reckon if we self identify as being under 12 we may get away with it.
mondaywine · 23/11/2020 17:33

Our local council have just announced we are now not moving to tier 2 tomorrow. It’s a total shambles. All those poor businesses who have stocked up ready to open are back yet again having to scramble around. Almost done with this now.

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 17:39

@mondaywine that’s shite.. come over to new thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4087472-hogmanae
