no one bothered in our street Angry

Guess we all have doorstep and clapping fatigue.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2020 11:09

I feel a bit self conscious doing stuff like that. And I think it’s been tainted with the Clap.

I’ve remembered though. Haunting picture on the Tate Facebook.

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 11:15

Never did it but I don't usually go to events either

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/11/2020 11:33

No, we didn’t either. But we wouldn’t ever go to church, so it seemed really fake. I think the appetite for doorstep togetherness has definitely waned.

rookiemere · 08/11/2020 12:08

I'm glad I'm not the only one not out standing on my doorstep this morning. I normally buy my poppy and wear it with pride and observe the silence, but this year I had such a visceral negative reaction to the thought of standing on my doorstep, that it surprised me.

I think maybe it's what feels like the cult of being seen to do the right thing - before non church goers have managed to be silent without having to demonstrate their silence. But it's obviously meant as a nice gesture of solidarity, so I feel guilty about my less than noble thoughts.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 08/11/2020 13:23

We didn’t stand on our doorstep either I’m afraid but I’ll walk the kids up to the war memorial on Wednesday (not a WW memorial so it won’t be at all busy)

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 08/11/2020 13:31

on a separate note, I've just been informed by someone who works at the venue, that Carol Smillie is a wedding celebrant. Covid must be hitting hard. She should have gotten the new Changing Rooms gig.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2020 13:33

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I like that story. I can just imagine her!

I’d love that job tbh

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 08/11/2020 13:52

I do like her myself, she'd be a great celebrant, sad she's not on telly much anymore though.

anon444877 · 08/11/2020 15:27

I would love to hear stories from a wedding celebrant, I bet they've got some crackers.
I donated to the British legion and made sure the children understood the day but no doorstep, we are awkward sods though and everything rookiemere said. I might try and take them to a memorial service next year.

Your comment made me laugh. I really hope you're not tainted with the clap... Grin
WouldBeGood · 08/11/2020 17:33

@Torvean32 😂😂

Fear not, I’m staying safe 😂

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 15:36

So doesn't look like Edinburgh or anywhere else going down tomorrow?

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2020 15:55

No...

Anywhere up,,,? 😱

rookiemere · 09/11/2020 15:56

@anon444877 doesn't look like it Sad.

rookiemere · 09/11/2020 15:57

Oh yeah definitely places going up Sad

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 15:58

Hopefully not north lanarkshire but not holding out much hope

Justmuddlingalong · 09/11/2020 16:00

There's local rumblings that Fife could be going up to tier 3.

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2020 16:00

Oh this is shite.

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2020 16:00

I’m very articulate this afternoon 😂

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 16:07

At least there is good news on the Pfizer vaccine!

sweetkitty · 09/11/2020 16:07

I heard a rumour today that schools will finish a bit earlier for Christmas.

waitforitwaitforit · 09/11/2020 16:07

I'm praying Glasgow won't go up. I don't think I can bear everything closing again. I think a few people are maybe expecting it though - Braehead was VERY busy today.

waitforitwaitforit · 09/11/2020 16:10

Finish? Or go to blended learning? We've got prelims in January.

Surely if numbers stay going in the direction they are (except in Glasgow Sad), there'll be no justification for an early closure.

Noooooooo! It's going to be hard enough keeping the kids busy for 2 weeks in the dark and cold with no playdates, family visits, soft play etc Sad. Walks only go so far for entertainment!
