FFS.

Looking at the 7 day rate I don't think they can justify keeping Fife in T2 - it's on 106.3/100 whereas Edinburgh is 82 and East Lothian is 68. EL is also under the 5% positive threshold and highly likely given Edinburgh isn't struggling to be find on the hospital indicators too

So much for lowering asap

Alittlewornout · 09/11/2020 16:16

Don't normally have a rant but really fed up. We are in Edinburgh rates going down yet no movement down a tier. What is the point of having these tiers and the criteria for them, if the SG just completely do their own thing and ignore the guidance they themselves have set??Compliance is waning anyway but will be worse after tomorrow. 2 week restrictions have now been nearly 6weeks!!

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2020 16:25

Yes. The restrictions aren’t working.

Compliance and good will has gone.

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 16:26

I thought restrictions were working and that's why cases aren't multiplying. We just need them to reduce a bit now

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/11/2020 16:30

Not sure how true this is, but I was in the M&S foodhall at lunchtime and the checkout lady told me ARI is rife with COVID and parts closed? I thought cases here were on the lower side?

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 16:31

ARI?

The school story was on some social media today and press- close early for hols, as most of us due to finish on 23/24th, by going straight to family dinners a day later fresh with the scent of school bubbles it will spread to family, elderly relatives etc.

It was suggested that instead, schools could close earlier and we could quarantine before seeing relatives at Xmas...apart from the fact we’d need to test to be sure we weren’t carrying it to see them, it also makes a lot of assumptions about how far in advance people are prepared for Christmas...

...good luck with that oneHmm

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/11/2020 16:34

Sorry for multiple posts - 44 per 100,000, so still not too bad?

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/11/2020 16:43

If it's gone through a high risk ward, or maybe done the rounds in a care home then there could be a disproportionately high number of hospitalisations vs number of cases

Matilda2013 · 09/11/2020 16:47

I was in braehead at the weekend. Woman working in Marks and Spencer says it's been like Christmas Eve every day. Lots of people panicking about a Glasgow lockdown I guess!

Scotslassie1 · 09/11/2020 17:05

I don't get that as M and S were always open were they not as they sell food..

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/11/2020 17:07

M&S here was open throughout. Initially just the foodhall though.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/11/2020 17:09

M&S in Edinburgh started off with just food and a very small selection of stuff. Then they created a walkway using clothes through the ladies - they seem to have chosen lots of basics and things I'd expect to be good sellers and you were able to pick stuff up. Then gradually the walkway sort of went away!

Matilda2013 · 09/11/2020 17:11

I'm not sure if she meant just M&S was like Christmas eve or the centre in general.

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 17:28

I suspect a lot of people are buying now for Christmas in case of worsening numbers due to increasing restrictions later.

It's already bad in terms of restrictions, not sure I've got faith things will continue to get better in case numbers, if they worsen it'll be bang into tier 4 etc.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/11/2020 17:46

If I had many to buy for/needed to shop in person I'd be doing it now. I wouldn't be surprised to see "non essential" shops closed until very close to xmas

NotAnActualSheep · 09/11/2020 17:50

The failure to move down levels, even though numbers are falling in the east central belt is really frustrating. And the constant threat of moving up a level, which seems to be always there dangling over any piece of good news is making me feel on edge all the time... there is no justification in the numbers, but we know "the numbers" apparently don't mean anything. So much for "aspiring" to be in level 2 like we were promised last time.

I'm really not surprised people have lost good will and are doing stuff "while they still can". Who can blame them/ us, really. It's not a case of "if we're good and limit our social interactions for another fortnight we'll have a bit more freedom". It's "if we limit our social interactions we won't get any more freedom at the end of it and we may get more restrictions imposed anyway. By which time there won't be any online delivery slots left for Christmas". Hardly encouraging altruistic behaviour.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/11/2020 18:01

It is incredibly frustrating - what the hell is the point in having the whole tiers idea if they don't ever allow areas to move to the lower levels?

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 18:04

Someone just tweeted in regard to the Pfizer vaccine news that the value of severely locking down in the next few months ahead of the vaccine has gone up as a strategy.

There's not as much need to adopt a business as usual/just managing the hospital load strategy if you have two strong vaccines (Pfizer and Astra Zeneca) being rolled out heavily next year.

NotAnActualSheep · 09/11/2020 18:15

Yes... If they aren't confident in the theirs as they stand to do what they should be doing (ie: the higher levels 3 and 4 to be short periods of 2-4 weeks to bring down numbers, and the lower tiers the "maintenance" state for the longer term) they have the freedom to tweak them. But don't claim the scientific high ground by having measurable targets and models and everything for moving between tiers, to just ignore them and insist "the only way is up".

I do have that slight concern on the vaccine too anon. It's great news and does sound promising, but yes, if that can be rolled out by December/ Jan into the spring, AND furlough is guaranteed til March, there's really no motivation to even try to "live with" the virus and try all the balancing of risk vs benefit. Hopefully then they can ditch all the tiers, though, and move into phase 4 of "old normal"... Hmm

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 18:22

I agree the whole tier system here right from the outset looked overly complicated and no guarantees it was any more effective. I see that in wales people can now meet one household indoors again after their circuit breaker. Sigh...all hail the glorious leaders!

anon444877 · 09/11/2020 18:23

I am not keen on the Pfizer one as an ignorant non scientist - if I'm going to go for a vaccine with shortened testing phases I'd rather have the 'old tech' Oxford vaccine thanks!

littlbrowndog · 09/11/2020 18:43

Why haven’t they moved the tiers.

It’s just threats and more threats from our dear leader

So done with this

Furst it was 16 days. It’s been going for weeks

Wales were told 2 weeks and they got 2 weeks
