Please do not post if you do not support.

A psychic in DM on Monday said there would be no union by end of 2021. Her track record of correct predictions seems very accurate.

idontknowaboutmortgages · 22/10/2020 20:22

Yes! And for a change I'll be living here to have my say!

MiddlesexGirl · 22/10/2020 20:27

A little bit mind-boggled as to how counting the yesses on this thread will indicate anything at all .... ???

grumplass · 22/10/2020 20:28

Well @MiddlesexGirl that's what we started with. But pps didn't like us having a just Indy thread so now it's impossible to count.
But good to see supportive positive posts here

I'm not Scottish but I've always hoped you'll become independent one day (and hopefully I can get honourary citizenship!)

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 22/10/2020 20:37

That's not right from an economic perspective though, waiting until oil prices and the world economy recovers from covid and brexit would clearly be a better time to face a new macro shock and do all the borrowing needed to setup an independent Scotland than now.

And the internal markets bill has an impact on Scotland which will make it more difficult to retain the high standards we have now and that we need to retain to make ourselves eligible for EU membership.

The time to go is now, we're done.

Scotslassie1 · 22/10/2020 20:46

Anon - You're really not getting this are you? People want an independent Scotland because of economic reasons. People have assessed the pros and cons of staying in a country which controls how it spends 55p in each pound it generates.

Every day we're with WM it's worse for us economically. The Tories are borrowing £1b per 24 hours and giving out billions, yes billions to companies which are hedge funds owners, companies with no PPE capacity and billions to other companies they've not even bothered their a*se to declare. They've been given billions because of who they know ( Boris' school pals), not what they do.

Each day, as it grows, we're liable for 10 per cent of the debt plus servicing costs.

This thread had given me hope so thanks op. I really feel like if we aren't able to be a normal country in the next 5 years or if we have a referendum and the latest strategies of 'Vow 2 to 'placate us' and trying to get Scots to believe the EU won't accept us, I'm offski! For the sake of my children.

PearlclutchersInc · 22/10/2020 20:47

Yes

kidyoullmovemountains · 22/10/2020 20:49

Yes! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Smile

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 22/10/2020 20:58

This thread had given me hope so thanks op.

I thank you too OP, from what I could see on here there was little support for indy, but I can see now that many of are of the same mind. It's comforting and encouraging.

Scotslassie1 · 22/10/2020 21:01

It really is! Always love your name when it pops up chocolatedefecit! Would be nice to have a thread with what we most look forward to / hope to achieve in an indy Scotland but I know it'd be taken over by pro WMs.

SBTLove · 22/10/2020 21:01

@MiddlesexGirl
It’s really not hard to understand, this is in Scotsnet and OP just wanted to gauge if there were many YES supporters, it’s called a POLL.
Similar to say ‘Comment if you drink Gin’

anon444877 · 22/10/2020 21:04

And what are your costings for setting up Scotland @Scotslassie1 ? How much is it going to cost to setup this central bank to do all this cheap borrowing?

I don't think we'll agree on this, no, and certainly most of the real figures and not made up snp 'facts' show Scotland having a large and growing budget deficit.

SBTLove · 22/10/2020 21:05

@Fressia123
Cmon up, always welcome ☕️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

grumplass · 22/10/2020 21:06

It's great to have you on board @Chocolatedeficitdisorder
We just need to keep going with this stuff and take over Scotsnet! Mumsnet itself isn't full of one political view but would say lots are in sympathy with the sort of social justice an independent Scotland can promise.
That's why I was so surprised by the very bitter unionist pile ons in this topic. We need to show we are better than that and rise above it.
We can do this.
*Work as if you are in the earlier days of a better nation.

@grumplass
Sadly too many unionists on MN have the arrogant opinion that YES supporters are poorly educated working class, whereas I find Unionists tend to be very unintelligent when I come across them 😉

ZuluWarrior · 22/10/2020 21:11

Yes. The sooner the better

Itawapuddytat · 22/10/2020 21:11

YES.

ZuluWarrior · 22/10/2020 21:15

(And I love plural Scots form. Most other languages apart from English do it. I've always thought "yous" was very advanced Wink)

grumplass · 22/10/2020 21:17

@SBTLove I really think most unionists on here just are worried about change and if it will make their lives different or worse. When they find that their lives are pretty similar and other peoples are even better I think they will be happy. Remember lots of Scotland has an incredibly conservative ( small c) and risk averse outlook. No wonder if you're told to be grateful for handouts your entire life.
The knuckle dragging type of football/ marching unionists have nothing in common with most pps on mumsnet I am pretty sure.

Scotslassie1 · 22/10/2020 21:24

Our deficit is the same as Italy and Belgium. Regardless, it's there because we don't control all our spending.

Tell me, how does being tied to WM help us economically? Please don't say you believe the UK Gov give Scotland free money and out of what, kindness? They won't even feed the poorest children during a pandemic. I actually cried earlier over that. I know I've mentioned it before but it's just so so vile. A Tory MP said they won't give free meals to children as it's 'nationalising' them. The thought of children going to bed hungry and mps voting for it- Douglas Ross, David Mundell . What is wrong with them. The UK is dead in my eyes. We gain independence and hopefully England benefits as they stop accepting this and re electing psychopathic toffs who don't demonstrate even an ounce of humanity.

SBTLove · 22/10/2020 21:24

@grumplass
I’m not just referring to the flutey tooty types.
I campaign with my local branch and have spoken to many middle class types and they are beyond narrow minded and lacking in any information, they just don’t like that Nicola, no reason.
No other country in the world is governed by a neighbouring country, people need to be brave and look to the future, I never vote for
my own needs, I vote for the betterment of all.
Look around you, when did Scotland last vote Tory? Labour are non existent, no idea what they are hoping for.

nibdedibble · 22/10/2020 21:29

The Unionists I was thinking of are the ones that march on 12 July and put up union jacks. (Hence my comments) They are a breed apart.

I think no voters have often got valid questions but so do yes voters. The thing is getting answers is a complete bugger. I’m worried about financial meltdown, huge welfare state etc but I know I’m never going to get an unbiased picture of Scotland’s finances either now or in the future. That’s not my fault. So I have to look at the people who want no. And....it’s not a pretty picture 🤦🏻‍♀️

grumplass · 22/10/2020 21:34

Sometimes you have to stop trying to answer questions and try to inspire instead.
The answers and explanations have all been given but they're still not enough if the only answer is "Wee Nippy"
