Speechless and disgusted. Is it thoughtlessness? Arrogance? Panic?

I actually don't think resignation would be good enough. She needs sacked and charged.

Covid Maggie.

I am not a sturgeon fan by any stretch of the imagination but you can tell how pissed off she is with all of this nonsense.

She can also fuck RIGHT off if she's about to tell me that I can't go with my family, in a private car, to another part of scotland, to stay in a self-catering cottage. This is way worse than Cummings-gate.

RepeatSwan · 02/10/2020 12:50

I think sturgeon had just done all she can. She said very clearly it was unacceptable, illegal and the fact she was a friend made no difference.

Also clearly she can not understand wtf the MP was thinking!!!!

It's a stark contrast with Johnson who backed Cummings but of course that's all water under the bridge now Angry

prettybird · 02/10/2020 12:52

Brazenly - that's the HoC rules though. The SNP can't change them and withdrawing the whip is all that they can do.

The Standards Committee can suspend her for a period but unless she was to get a prison sentence of longer than a year, it's unfortunately up to her to resign.

Her constituents can set up a recall position though and if enough of them sign it, can force a by-election. In such a case, she could run again as an independent - but I doubt that she would.

If she does resign or is forced into a by-election, I think that Labour would win the seat back as it's a marginal one that's changed hand the last couple of elections.

Scotslassie1 · 02/10/2020 12:53

Boris and Gove etc decided to tell the public ( who at the time were unable to attend funerals or travel more than 5 miles) that Cummings drove to a Castle to test his eyesight. Gove even started laughing whilst saying it on the telly. Polar opposite of the SNP's response.

nibdedibble · 02/10/2020 12:56

Christ, those journalists are just asking her a variety of exactly the same question, as if she’s going to trip up and say ‘ach, it was fine, give her a break’. You can hear the frustration.

I wonder what the telling off was like 😂 I would not like to have been on the receiving end.

What a fucking idiot of an MP, no integrity there at all, and the bar tends to be low.

chrislilleyswig · 02/10/2020 13:10

I would imagine after the bollocking she would have got, she'll be off soon

Breathtaking ignorance.

MumofHunter · 02/10/2020 13:21

Yip. I imagine there would have been some sweary words said. NS - more integrity in her little finger than the rest of the leaders combined.

anon444877 · 02/10/2020 13:28

i wonder if it will have much of a bad effect on people following the rules - surely margaret ferrier has shown why the isolation rules do matter: MF got on the first train assuming that she was fine as she became asymptomatic (felt much better) and doesn't that just show the whole problem - you don't know if you're potentially going to kill at risk people or not whilst you are waiting for test results.

The SNP's response has been better - but then there is a real likelihood that MF has endangered the lives of transport workers and other people she came into contact with, in full knowledge on the return journey.

The cummings and ferrier scandals aren't equivalent.

honigbutter · 02/10/2020 14:09

Has Margaret Ferrier not resigned yet?

The hide of a rhinoceros indeed.

I agree. You couldn't sell her a brass neck.
AgentCooper · 02/10/2020 20:23

So fucking sick of this. I’m really missing my office and the bare minimum of adult human interaction right now and hearing about this made me want to stamp on my laptop.

ssd · 02/10/2020 20:25

Me too. Dh tested positive last week and we all haven't been further than the garden in a week and we aren't out for a few more days yet. We are demented. But we wouldn't do anything else cos we aren't fucking idiots.

BrazenlyDefying · 02/10/2020 20:35

She's also been to the gym and a beauty salon while having symptoms and on the day she had a test.

Fuck me. How dense do you have to be.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 02/10/2020 22:45

Teacupdrama I would disagree that you don't endanger others going on a long journey by car.
I doubt either the Cummings family or MF could manage their journeys without needing a toilet stop. If their cars had been in an accident or just broken down they would have endangered anyone who came to their help - and then require onward travel. You might hope these things wouldn't happen but you cannot assume they would not.

BrazenlyDefying · 02/10/2020 22:48

And that's why car journeys weren't advised.

But on a scale of 1 to 100 - travelling by car, when you've never had a covid diagnosis and are 14 days past symptoms is maybe an 11 or 12. Travelling on a train when you had a covid diagnosis the day before is like a 99.

And she STILL hasn't stepped down.

titsbumfannythelot · 03/10/2020 07:10

The fact that she hasn't resigned yet is both infuriating and insulting.

I think NS handled the situation as well as she could have. She must be bloody livid, like the rest of us.

ssd · 03/10/2020 07:22

Comparing her situation to Cummings is pointless.
At the end of the day, both of them blatantly broke the rules.

Cummings had the prime minister come out on national television defending him.

Ferrier has been rightly condemned by the first minister, who unfortunately by law can't sack her.

That's the main difference here.

RepeatSwan · 03/10/2020 07:31

I agree what more can Sturgeon do without meting out an actual beating!

MPs do not lightly resign their seat as they do not get severance pay when they do. Hopefully the SNP can organise a recall petition.

Sturgeon shows the PM how to respond again.

But her mp is openly and willfully ignoring her! That is not leadership! If Boris HAD asked DC to resign he would have. MF hasn't done as NS has asked. Quite extraordinary. I suspect there are some background manouvers where she is trying to get a pay off may be. DC actions were a 5 out of 10 for reckless behaviour with mitigating factors e.g care of his son. And not judged illegal by the police. MF is a 10 out of 10 of what NOT to do with no mitigating factors ( or none she has come out and said yet). Police to investigate rightly and i bet her actions will be found to be illegal. There is a report she went to beauty parlour too but that may not be credible as it sounds unlikely she would behave that badly. Plus she was also all over social media condemning DC at the time and in the HOC on Monday talking about covid!!! If you were doing a comedy sketch of a mp breaking the rules her actions would be the inspiration and we would all laugh at the far fetchedness of it. The BBC ran for a week with the DC story. Wonder if they will run for a week with this one.
titsbumfannythelot · 03/10/2020 08:59

The difference here though, is that Boris could (and should have IMO) have sacked DC. NS does not have that option available. We all know she would if she could.

deaddreams · 03/10/2020 09:04

I still can't believe she hasn't resigned yet. She comes across in this situation now as arrogant and entitled - and when you see the video of her in the commons doing her 4 minute speech to an almost empty room of 3 or 4 sleeping men, she must have known that was going to be the case when she was trailing down to London on the train. Why on earth did she think that was a good use of her time, and of the public purse, especially when she knew she possibly had COVID? Most folk would have stayed at home.

sashagabadon · 03/10/2020 09:07

But MF is an actual smp of the ruling party of scotland whereas dc is an advisee albeit an influential one.
MF represents constituents and was all over social media at the dc time complaining about his behaviour. Not sure if she called for his resignation. Probably.
It seems the beauty parlour visits may be true. Not sure though as that seems so madly irresponsible i can't believe it.

honigbutter · 03/10/2020 09:13

She's quoted as saying his position was untenable and he should resign.

She has now done much worse and it must be humiliating for Nicola Sturgeon that she hasn't yet resigned.

Margaret Ferrier must be shameless to behave this way so deals about finances behind the scenes wouldn't surprise me.

It's bigger than that. No one is defending Ferrier. Least so Nicola Sturgeon. If she could sack her she clearly would. But Boris Johnson called a press conference where he stood up and defended Cummings actions

THAT is indefensible.
