Speechless and disgusted. Is it thoughtlessness? Arrogance? Panic?

I actually don't think resignation would be good enough. She needs sacked and charged.

Yes seems a long time ago when Nicola had to berate Catherine Calderwood on telly. Will be interesting to see how this is dealt with ...

PapsofJura · 01/10/2020 20:06

She should absolutely be prosecuted and face the maximum fine, hopefully both for England and Scotland if that is possible.

Her stupidity could have infected so many people and quite possibly made some people very ill.

She had the audacity to criticise Dominic Cummings but what she did was far worse and completely indefensible.

tenlittlecygnets · 01/10/2020 20:08

So stupid and thoughtless!! Getting on a train to Scotland is not a mistake; it's a calculated decision. How many people has she put at risk????

sonicbook · 01/10/2020 20:13

She'll definitely be sacked. I'd be very surprised if she's not charged.

It's the worst example of flagrant rule breaking there has been since this whole thing started.

From a public figure I mean

Terrible. NS has made a statement- she said it's hard to put into words how angry she feels and the rules apply to everyone. What a stupid woman.

sonicbook · 01/10/2020 20:21

Suspended the whip pending an investigation . She'll be expelled and charged I would imagine. What a way to end your career.

Someone must have whistleblown on this? Or did she confess all once she got safely back inside her house and started a belated quarantine?

derxa · 01/10/2020 20:29

idiot

Cismyfatarsey · 01/10/2020 20:30

Looks from Twitter like she attended a meeting in her constituency on Tuesday too.

cheezy · 01/10/2020 20:37

I really find it hard to believe that someone could be so stupid. Just what was she thinking?!

trumpisaflump · 01/10/2020 20:39

I put this on the other thread-

This is absolutely shocking. Though if Nicola Sturgeon hadn't been so smug when Scottish COVID levels were low, and spoke of closing the 'border' with England I would possibly not enjoy some schadenfreude here.
This is not to trivialise her actions. She may well have infected others on that train.

Gingerkittykat · 01/10/2020 20:46

[[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-54379026 link to story in case people don't know what has happened.

I can't believe this, no wonder ordinary people are becoming increasingly hostile to the rules.

I don't know if she volunteered the information about her travels because of the contact tracing that is going on.

throwingawaymyshot · 01/10/2020 20:52

doubt someone shopped her. she would have had to reveal where she was as part of test and trace so it would have come out anyway. Hope she's fired. What does it mean to lose the whip?

sonicbook · 01/10/2020 20:59

Yes this is the problem. I think they will need to make an example of her in order to try and restore the seriousness of the message. Maximum fine maybe for both England and Scotland?

It's very quickly turning into a witch-hunt on Twitter which I'm not entirely comfortable with but they do need to quickly nip this in the bud and she needs to face full consequences in an attempt to restore the idea that the rules are important.

OP posts:
sonicbook · 01/10/2020 21:03

@throwingawaymyshot I'm not 100% but an MP can't technically be fired or sacked. They can have the whip suspended or removed which acts like a suspension or she can be asked to resign. She's currently had the whip suspended which is pretty much all Ian black ford / NS have the power to do at this point until the police and the parliamentary commission investigate.

Once that's done they could expel her from the SNP and ask her to resign. My guess is she'll resign off her own back before tomorrow is through.

As an snp voter whose household is self isolating and not enjoying it, I hope she us sacked and charged. She is an utter disgrace.

Scotslassie1 · 01/10/2020 21:16

My understanding is removing the whip means she's been expelled from the party so now an independent MP.

Bourdic · 01/10/2020 21:16

sonic you’re right - an MP can’t be sacked. It all depends what happens next - her constituents could use the Recall Act if the Standards Committee suspends her from the house for 10 days or more ( likely imo). If she’s charged, RA triggered she’s sentenced to a year or more in prison. ( won’t happen).

Justmuddlingalong · 01/10/2020 21:20

Typhoid Mary didn't know she was a carrier. Covid Maggie did.
The Scottish government will have lost all credibility and control of the whole Covid situation, wether she resigns or not.
I'd imagine lots of people who've been as careful as possible and followed all the guidelines and rules have now hit peak "fuck this."

StealthPolarBear · 01/10/2020 21:21

I assume she will be treated more strongly than Calderwood, but just to point out she was CMO which is why what she did (travel to holiday home under lockdown, no symptoms) more hypocritical imo.

Bourdic · 01/10/2020 21:22

Just aren’t you being a bit melodramatic or is it wishful thinking?

Justmuddlingalong · 01/10/2020 21:26

Why would it be wishful thinking @Bourdic?
It wasn't a political opinion, just a common sense one.
And no, not melodramatic, just stating the obvious. Hth

AllAboutTheMonet · 01/10/2020 21:26

I am working in a tiny team, working too many extra hours a week to keep on top of workload. As I’m sure many other people are.

We don’t go out, we don’t socialise, we pretty much work and sleep because if one of us goes down with it, we will all be off.

When I read something like this I despair. What a selfish, selfish twat. The train? Why would you travel anywhere? Did it not occur to you to own up so they could have holed you up in the HOC? Did you take the tube as well? Or did you play lottery with a black cab driver?

No. Shiting. Words.

Bourdic · 01/10/2020 21:32

‘The Scottish government will have lost all credibility and control of the whole Covid situation, wether she resigns or not. ‘

This is wishful thinking imo.
