Is Nicola Sturgeon being too cautious now

Listening to her briefing it sounds like there will be no easing of restrictions until the schools are back and settled

With infections at such a low rate should we not be getting back to something closer to normal?

People are losing their jobs every day and she doesnt seem bothered

What does everyone else think?

@sonicbook

Your eyesight at e bloody brilliant that you see and understand so much from strangers on social media and anonymous chat forums
yes it is thanks, got my eyes tested at Barnard Castle.

Do you walk around with your eyes shut, never watch the news, never read a paper or anything on-line, never talk to anyone etc etc?

You seem to feel you know about me? I feel I know about others on here. Might all be smoke and mirrors but it is influential all the same.

Those idiots on the border and at the train station may of course be upstanding pillars of the community and not have a racist bone in their body, I don't know them. However as you say, I've made assumptions based on their actions. Bad me. Sad

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 01/08/2020 16:10

What I don’t understand is the decision to re-open pubs but not gyms, where more social distancing takes place. Also, to allow flights with hundreds of people but only allow 8 people to an indoor wedding. There is nothing wrong with a cautious approach but I don’t like the selectivity and the almost arbitrary decisions to re-open some sectors but not others. Duncan Bannatyne has already threatened to close down all of his health clubs in Scotland if they don’t re-open soon resulting in 600 job losses Shock

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 16:12

There's no point discussing it with you because you are never ever wrong and you will never ever move outside your own wee narrative.

Those idiots aren't representative of the SNP the same way that EDL aren't representative of everyone who votes Tory.

SengaStrawberry · 01/08/2020 16:13

Is the issue with gyms not the heavy breathing/huffing and puffing due to exercise?

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 01/08/2020 16:19

But people hugging/kissing/talking closely down the pub doesn’t seem to be worrying them that much.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/08/2020 16:22

Sonic - back at ya.

Those idiots aren't representative of the SNP the same way that EDL aren't representative of everyone who votes Tory.

The problem is that unless NS comes out swiftly condemning the behaviour, they ARE representatives of the SNP whether you like it or not. The problem here is that long delay - why?

rookiemere · 01/08/2020 16:26

The pubs I have been to have been very well managed. We have chosen to sit outside, but inside the number of tables has been reduced for distancing.

I admit it's disappointing that gyms haven't been opened, but that could be because one of their primary purposes is to get people sweating, and that inadvertent sharing of body fluid could be an issue.

I was very critical of the Scottish approach up to a week or so ago, when cases started plateauing then rising in England and rising abroad.
The Spanish quarantine u turn though was a bit of an embarrassment.

Jodri · 01/08/2020 16:32

I think the brewing and whisky industry has a lot of clout in Scotland with our love of drinking (distilleries a big employee in the NE and Edinburgh isn’t called auld reekie for nothing!).
I’ve heard a lot of gyms are not continuing with les mills classes as they need to pay subscription fees for the classes and I suppose that’s one way to cut costs. They are hugely popular at my gym. I’m missing the gym but I don’t think I would go if they opened up. I’m a really sweaty gym goer and I know how off putting using equipment still warm and wet is (even though it may have been wiped down).
I don’t fly or even go on holiday anymore, but it’s a hard one about flights. the pp poster who rates Chris witty and his approach, yes, I agree the balance has got to be right and not be afraid to pull things back. At my husband’s work they couldn’t stop an employee on furlough visiting a European country for a holiday, this was in the early days of lockdown and before quarantine; it was nice to see the guy I buy my big issue back selling on his spot, I was a bit worried though when he told me he was just back from Romania, his home, where he’d been the last three months.

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 16:33

Well I've only seen one picture and it didn't contain any SNP imagery so 🤷🏻‍♀️

They're a bunch of racists the same as any other bunch of racists. It's obviously unacceptable. Humza has condemned it i the strongest possible terms. Do you need all of them to do it?

And no not the same 'back at ya' I'm highly critical of Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP on almost all decisions relating to education, to the fact that independence has clearly been put on the back burner, the truly despicable Joanna Cherry debacle... I could go on.

You have one mode: bitter, thrawn and angry at Nicola Sturgeon and all that is connected to her.

I don't need all of them to do it but the leader would be nice?

and thanks for the sweeping generalisation, I do have many other modes, even on here, I post in all sorts of different topics, sometimes I'm even helful! Shock. I just don't like to see some of the stuff posted go unchallenged - or am I not allowed to do that? You seem to be assuming a lot based on some stuff that I post on SM which funnily enough I wasn't allowed to make assumptions about earlier?

Anyway, away to sort out dinner, we might talk about stuff that isn't connected to NS or anything to do with SNP, independence CV or education, but how i'll manage that with my one mode I have no idea.... Confused

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 16:47

It's not really a sweeping generalisation it's an assumption based on what I've actually seen you posting.

I have, of course, not seen everything you post.

MumofHunter · 01/08/2020 18:18

I couldn't imagine going to the gym just now but know it's an aid for better mental health for lots of people.
Frustrating we could've been back to normal weeks ago if quarantine rules were put in place at the start.
I really feel for people in England whose weddings were this weekend and cancelled with a day's notice. 😪

britINscotland · 01/08/2020 18:25

we did leave actually, after taking one look at the car park and seeing all the crowds although everywhere was much the same.

I have avoided going anywhere for months so don't really want to have to stay inside or avoid anywhere because of masses of visitors from elsewhere

yes they were English because of all the English accents in the car park when we stepped out of our car. There were masses of caravans and car boots full of suitcases with English people sitting / standing around them.

Then we left and went to the local park, which again was crowded with lots of dog walkers, some Scottish and some English walking their dogs.

BIL works for a loch lomond hotel. He says there's been loads of English guests and visitors in the restaurant and the hotel. So there are a lot of them coming.

I am not at all saying I have an issue with English visitors. My only point is that the self isolation request from NS hasn't deterred anyone from coming nor do I think those to whom this request applies will bother to do so.

MumofHunter · 01/08/2020 18:39

She didn't request that all people travelling from England to Scotland self isolate.

How is it racist to comment that a whole load of folk had English accents when musing about whether people are travelling or not. 🙄

Chances are some of them would have been tourists to be fair. Some of them residents.

Hardly warrants a 'fuck off'

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/08/2020 19:10

A lot to deduce while simply being briefly in a car park.

I don't want to be harsh here but just because you've not being going out, it doesn't give you first dibs on what is probably one of the most visited beauty spots in Scotland on a reasonably good weather day on the weekend during both the Scottish and English school holidays when people have been discouraged from travelling abroad. No-one is asking you to stay inside and not enjoy the sites of Scotland but maybe that wasn't a good choice if you wanted it to be quiet.

It was always going to be busy. I don't know where you traveled from, but there were probably lots of lovely places that would have been quieter for a dog walk than Loch Lomond or the nearby park.

Intended or not, there is a lot of anti English sentiment voiced in your posts. I wouldn't expect to be slagged off for being Scottish and going to the lake district if I so chose to.

SockYarn · 01/08/2020 19:11

Because the clear inference is that people with English accents do not belong in Scotland and they should keep out. You might like to live in cloud cuckoo land where there is no racism against the English in Scotland, fuelled by Ms Sturgeon and her acolytes.

Most of us are not so naive/stupid.

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 19:15

No the clear inference is that English accents are less common in Scotland and might therefore suggest some form of tourism might be going on.

You wouldn't expect Scottish accents to be commented on in the Lake District but they probably would because people might think 'hey there's some tourists!'

How this all suggests racism I don't know!

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/08/2020 19:20

Well, if it was "hey here are some tourists" (giving money to local businesses etc) expressed in a positive way then that would be fab.

The tone I've got from the posts doesn't come across like that, but I'm also inferring that, as the poster says they haven't been out much, they may have some extra anxiety so I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt.

However as I've been accused of making assumptions based on posts and you've already admitted doing the same (I took that as an apology by the way), then I may be way of the mark.

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 19:28

An apology? 🤣 I made an assumption about you using the evidence of your posts. I didn't insult you and I don't think I was wrong so not sure what I'd be apologising for but you take it if you want it!

I didn't get an anti English vibe but inference is in the eye of the inferrer I suppose.

Also going by her user name I don't think she'd be an anti English racist but who knows!

Hopefully she'll come back to tell us what she implied.

MumofHunter · 01/08/2020 19:30

I can testify that at least some people in the Highlands are somewhat wary when hearing Glaswegian accents at the moment!

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 19:31

@MumofHunter yep had experience of that recently! People are understandably very nervous. Death rate aside the long term effects of COVID for some people are seriously giving me the fear!

MumofHunter · 01/08/2020 19:38

Yeah it is a worry - life long problems even if you recover. I know I'm a broken record but having a covid eradication strategy is just so so important. We must keep levels low until a vaccine is available.

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 19:42

I'm anxious about the schools going back. I know it's really necessary but I do think it'll end in more lockdowns, even if only regional, on and off right up to Christmas and beyond.
