Is Nicola Sturgeon being too cautious now

Listening to her briefing it sounds like there will be no easing of restrictions until the schools are back and settled

With infections at such a low rate should we not be getting back to something closer to normal?

People are losing their jobs every day and she doesnt seem bothered

What does everyone else think?

Little Hitola.

Jesus Christ, fucking grow up.

MumofHunter · 04/08/2020 10:03

Just read that Douglas Ross told this bare faced lie on BBC Scotland- not even in the job yet and making things up.
“Nicola Sturgeon did sign that agreement with the UK and Scottish governments that it would be once in a generation.”

Re the re opening of things, I saw Landmark had to close at one day's notice due to having outdoor rollercoasters. Surely that's a lot less risky than pubs and restaurants! 🤔

LizzieMacQueen · 04/08/2020 10:32

Not just whatshisname but I thought the Independence Referendum was being touted as a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity too. So is it being rebranded as 'once in a generation' now?

AudacityOfHope · 04/08/2020 10:45

It was never touted as once in a lifetime I don't think; I think it was always caveated with 'unless there is a material change' such as leaving the EU. Obviously that was a bad faith sweetener that Westminster knew it would not adhere too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2020 11:03

It was always once in a lifetime.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2020 11:05

Just did a Google and actually its a bit dubious either way, but a generation would be a bit over 20 years regardless.

rookiemere · 04/08/2020 11:10

The daily televised briefings need to stop. They are disproportionate to the level of cases and risk and show impartiality on the behalf of the BBC by continuing to show them.

At this stage bi-weekly or even weekly with updates if anything of importance happens, would be more appropriate. Indeed I thought they had changed to bi-weekly but was apparently incorrect.

They have become political vehicles and also are keeping people disproportionately worried about fractional risks. 20 odd cases today are not outbreaks, they are clusters at most and show that the test and track process is effective.

If people are genuinely frightened by sitting outside in Scotland at an appropriate distance with a friend without a mask, then it shows that the reporting needs to calm down a bit.

YerAWizardHarry · 04/08/2020 11:13

Been a big outbreak linked to the bars in Aberdeen last few days, lots of talk of local lockdown...

rookiemere · 04/08/2020 11:19

@YerAWizardHarry actual cases reported from the Aberdeen bar are 13.

YerAWizardHarry · 04/08/2020 11:20

@rookiemere its upto 27 now as far as I'm aware

Goingdownto · 04/08/2020 11:23

I read 27 too

sonicbook · 04/08/2020 11:24

Little Hitola.

Cringeworthy

rookiemere · 04/08/2020 11:25

Ah ok @YerAWizardHarry still fairly low numbers though, but if there is some form of local lockdown then that is newsworthy.

I'm just saying that daily is not needed and a short statement would suffice for most things rather than a big daily briefing

YerAWizardHarry · 04/08/2020 11:29

@rookiemere I think more will come out of the woodwork in the next few days, apparently one of the very busy bars have had six members of staff test positive but that's just hearsay

MumofHunter · 04/08/2020 12:01

Nope, made up like his boss's £350m from Brexit. The Edinburgh Agreement, which was signed, explicitly states that the legislation doesn't prevent Scotland from holding a future independence referendum.

Yes 27 in Aberdeen and will rise. Great news with schools going back (!).

Of course people don't socially distance when drunk and it's not fair on bar staff or possibly some bar staff don't even care. If it was me I think I'd stay behind the bar and not walk around/ let them get on with it.

chrislilleyswig · 04/08/2020 14:09

@TheMurk

I am sick to death of all of this, ESPECIALLY the daily “tellings” from Little Hitola.

There’s currently an infectious pool of around 300 people in Scotland’s population of 5.5 million.

If you really think you’re going to catch coronavirus from handling cash from a food stand at Loch Lomond I feel very sorry for you. Live your life - or what we have left of it before even more of our civil liberties are stolen from us.

Usforthem by any chance?

Absolutely. And she's shifted the timing from 12.30 to 12.15 to get her extra quarter of an hour of airtime before the 1pm news.

rookiemere · 04/08/2020 14:58

Sorry just realised on being quoted, I should have said partiality not impartiality Blush

YerAWizardHarry · 05/08/2020 14:26

Local 'lockdown' announced in Aberdeen, pubs and restaurants to close for a week

Mistressiggi · 05/08/2020 15:40

Good grief

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 05/08/2020 16:02

Listening to the briefing today I get the impression that they can't trace the source of some of the infections, indicating community spread and hence a local lockdown. That and the very sharp increase in infection numbers. I suppose it was inevitable that this would happen once we eventually started opening up again.
