Listening to her briefing it sounds like there will be no easing of restrictions until the schools are back and settled

With infections at such a low rate should we not be getting back to something closer to normal?

People are losing their jobs every day and she doesnt seem bothered

What does everyone else think?

“So there are a lot of them coming.”

them 😏

MumofHunter · 01/08/2020 19:55

Well I'll have a class of 32 in a tiny room in two weeks, with my children back in school also. Had bad anxiety this morning but feel better this afternoon.
I've been in control up until now and kept us safe or as safe as I can, but it's outwith my control w/c 10th Aug. If a pupil has it, likely I'll get it (teach older primary). Just need to hope for the best!

sonicbook · 01/08/2020 20:06

Looking like I'll have 30 x 6 every day (secondary school) in and out of my small classroom as well. Just don't see how it's safe but I do understand the need for the kids to be back.

britINscotland · 01/08/2020 20:52

@SockYarn how about you fuck right off yourself by accusing me of racism / xenophobia?

You have no idea what racism is. I do. My ancestry is neither white nor Scottish (although I was born here) and my BFF is English!

Every single car (with suitcases in the boot) or caravan in the car park was surrounded by someone with an English accent. I was making a bloody observation that NS self isolation advice doesn't seem to have deterred anyone from coming to Scotland - nor should it. The crowds are annoying but Cornwall has the same complaints. Are the Cornish locals racist?

@WaxOnFeckOff I can see Loch Lomond from my back garden actually.

I'm not an SNP supporter either btw. I hate them with a passion. I didn't vote for Brexit either. I have agreed with many of Sock's and Wax's posts and disagreed with many of the Nats on here, but I must thank @sonicbook on this occasion for seeing my posts as intended.

I had come back to this thread tonight to talk about the fact my DD may struggle to go back to school and social distance due to a broken leg today but it appears that the subject has changed from returning to school to personal attacks so I will step away for now.

nextslideplease · 01/08/2020 20:57

The roads around loch lomond were very busy and some got closed.

Anyway, our school have said that we will get a letter with more details on Tuesday. Same day as exam results.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/08/2020 21:04

"@WaxOnFeckOff I can see Loch Lomond from my back garden actually."

That must be lovely, i really missed having a nice view during lock down - we used to have a nice one of the hills but some trees grew really fast and blocked it.

Can I ask why you've not been going out? To be fair, we've not been far but it's not been too difficult to find quieter spots and a change of scene does do you good. DH took his normal weekend trip up our local hill today, he wasn't able to do it during lock down as although it's within 5 miles, they'd shut all the car parks. When he first tried to get back into it when restrictions eased, it was permanently mobbed and even his out of the way parking spot was over-run. he went up this afternoon expecting to not get parked and to come home again but he said it was very quiet - maybe everyone away to loch lomond...

As for the broken leg, do the school know yet? Is she having an induction session before full time everyone in? Is there anything particular she is worried about?

SockYarn · 01/08/2020 21:09

You are not getting it, @britINscotland. Just because people have English accents you cannot assume they do not live here and pay tax here. You are assuming English accent = tourist. Some maybe. But definitely not all.

britINscotland · 01/08/2020 22:25

@WaxOnFeckOff I'm disabled (as well as ethnic).

DDs accident only happened today. I will contact the school on Monday.

@SockYarn they all had suitcases in their cars or they had a caravan so yeah one would surmise they are tourists. Okay maybe they were travelling from another part of Scotland but I do doubt it.

You called a mixed race poster a racist and you still haven't apologised for it. You also continue to make assumptions about my intentions. You are so determined to be right.

I thought you were one of the better scotsnet posters but if you are now attacking even those on the same political side as you, and those who just make a simple observation, then you have a real problem.

I reported your last post. I've been on MN for 13 years nearly and I've rarely been as upset by a poster as I have been tonight.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/08/2020 22:49

A lot of crossed wires today (including me). I think the tone of your posts did make it sound like you were complaining that there were actual English folk in Scotland Brit, clearly you've further explained that that wasn't what you meant. However, I can also see why sock took umbrage.

I can understand why you've been reluctant to go out, i think a bit of different planning will hopefully make the next foray more successful.

Sorry to hear of your DDs accident today, hope she recovers well and that you get something sorted with school that allows her to get a bit of normality back.

SockYarn · 02/08/2020 08:22

I'm sorry I offended you, @britINscotland but your posts did very much sound as if you were objecting to people purely because of their accents. All i was pointing out was that lots of people with English accents live here and that you really shouldn't assume. And that even if they were tourists, they are doing nothing wrong by being here.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/08/2020 09:20

Having read many of @britINscotland’s posts, I don’t think there’s an Anglophobic bone in their body. I think the misunderstanding is borne of the current climate in Scotland where it has unfortunately become more acceptable to single out people with English accents and question whether they should be here (even though lots of English people have made their home here).

rookiemere · 02/08/2020 09:29

This is all reminding me of how I felt around the time of the Scottish referendum. Neither DH nor I are Scottish but we've both lived here for a long time - I've been here for over 30 years. I felt so unwelcome at the end of it, that I vowed that we'd retire elsewhere.

My main issue with Scottish handling of Coronavirus is that it has become highly politicised. Daily briefings long past the point when they are needed and digs against England. Scotland hasn't handled coronavirus brilliantly either as evidenced by the death rate. I do think that the approach now seems to be a bit more sensible than England, but we have a more spread out population so a bit of an in built natural advantage.

Lol

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/08/2020 09:45

What’s funny about that post @sonicbook?

sonicbook · 02/08/2020 09:49

Your suggestion that folk couldn't understand @SockYarn post because we're all immersed in a climate of anti English sentiment. 🤣

It's hilarious. It's the ultimate 'SNP bad'

Poster unclear on chat forum = nationalists' fault

It's a beautiful thing.

sonicbook · 02/08/2020 09:50

Sorry @britINscotland post not @SockYarn

SockYarn · 02/08/2020 09:55

I assumed it was that, but on closer reading I think it is the corona situation she is referring to, not wanting infected people to come to non infected areas.
sonicbook · 02/08/2020 10:02

NS and the SNP are leading the corona response though and there have been many posts about how they are doing to to further the nationalist cause.

It's not leadership, public health or infection control it's propaganda apparently. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

So yes I take your point but the two are currently intertwined.

fascinated · 02/08/2020 10:03

True.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/08/2020 10:40

I didn’t actually mention the SNP at all, but it’s interesting that that was your first instinct. Do you deny that the more anglophobic elements of Scottish society have felt emboldened to spout their hate during this crisis? The nutters at the border and at Glasgow Central wouldn’t have felt able to do that so openly before this.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/08/2020 11:14

It's funny because sonic is absolutely is able to define exactly who I am from my posts (but doesn't necessarily read properly) and yet no-one else is apparently able or allowed to do so. Anyway, I'm taking a break from this thread for a bit so peace and love to all...Grin

sonicbook · 02/08/2020 11:25

Yawn.

@WaxOnFeckOff, with all due respect, I think it's you who could read more closely.

Enjoy your break.

MumofHunter · 02/08/2020 12:46

The person with the banner has been doing it for years. As I've said before, just a f*ckwit looking for publicity. Plus he's not a NS fan and was heckled out of Holyrood for shouting during PMQs.

Hands Around Scotland is a large , pro independence and SNP FB group run by the lovely, English, Sarah. There were tonnes of angry comments from members after the banner incident.

Anyway, can we move on? 😀

fascinated · 02/08/2020 18:03

God, this is ridiculous. We can’t even have a sensible discussion about how to protect ourselves from corona given the considerably more lax rules south of the border without it descending into a fight about independence. This is what pisses me off about this country right now. Nothing but nothing can be discussed without this issue being raised.
