Is Nicola Sturgeon being too cautious now

Listening to her briefing it sounds like there will be no easing of restrictions until the schools are back and settled

With infections at such a low rate should we not be getting back to something closer to normal?

People are losing their jobs every day and she doesnt seem bothered

What does everyone else think?

He is a weak leader and like a petulant child he stomps his feet when he isnt getting his way he was subdued at FMQ today I thought he is mellow today and now he has resigned I miss Ruth least she was actual opposition.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 30/07/2020 17:06

Please Ruth come back!!

nextslideplease · 30/07/2020 17:09

Jackson and Richard are/were shit opposition.

What we need is Ruth and Jackie.

But Jackie's lead is very narrow and she could be voted out next year (hope not as I went to school with her previous opposition and she was NOT a nice person)

And Ruth was going to do other jobs instead wasn't she? She wasn't running for MSP next year I don't think?

SockYarn · 30/07/2020 17:12

I'm not a Jackson Carlaw fan. He is probably a very nice chap, but far too wet. Especially to follow in the formidable footsteps of Ruth Davidson, and Annabel Goldie before her.

The opposition in Scotland is dire. I hate the SNP and everything they stand for but they are a coherent, consistent, well-organised political machine. Constant switching of leadership in the other parties damages credibility.

The Conservatives need a younger or more dynamic leader. Annie Wells is good, or maybe Jamie Greene?

AgentCooper · 30/07/2020 17:15

@frasersmummy it’s a Uni I work in too. Actually a lovely place to work and I miss it like mad. I fully support this situation opening up more choices - if people want to continue wfh and have proved that they can do so (and I think many people have) then I think that arrangement should be on the table going forward.

But I really, really don’t want to continue wfh. The isolation and removal of the sense of sanctuary from home have been so, so bad for my mental health.

AudacityOfHope · 30/07/2020 17:29

Hahah Carlaw is an empty shirt! I'm sure literally nobody will miss his searing contribution to political life.

LovelyWeekAway · 30/07/2020 17:46

I thought Carlaw came across terribly today , I wonder has he had his knuckles wrapped from higher up over his negativity.

Seems strange to resign within hours of this discussion

LovelyWeekAway · 30/07/2020 17:47

knuckles rapped obviously not wrapped - must preview before I post Grin

giggly · 30/07/2020 23:49

It’s interesting how people have different experiences of wfh. I do a mixture and definitely do not want to ever return to the rat race of f/t work with commute while raising children. My mental health and purse have never been so healthy with both being adversely affected if I were to return to life before.

GlassOfProsecco · 31/07/2020 09:44

I'm doing a mixture of WFH & going in to work (NHS). So it's the best if both worlds.

I'm saving £800 a month on childcare & have much less stress.

A total game-changer for me. I hope it continues.

rookiemere · 31/07/2020 13:07

I'm not hugely happy wfh, but both DH and I have said that getting DS back into school is the number one priority.
So I have to say whilst I've not been the biggest Nicola Sturgeon fan through all of this - I think not opening gyms or anything else until schools are back is a good decision. Also means it's easier to isolate causes of spikes in infections- although i'm keeping everything crossed that won't happen in schools as - unless DSs not brilliant at handling the homeschooling private school - I don't think I will cope well with another enforced period of him not being at school.

britINscotland · 31/07/2020 17:03

came on to say that NS is bang out of order saying if you go to Northern England when you return to scotland you should self isolate for 14 days and not go to pubs etc

So she got her quarantine after all. So much for not politicising the issue! Nasty English germs!

Will people do what their telt? Will they fuck.

Will people visiting Gourock be told to self isolate for 14 days when they go back to the Highlands or wherever?

zafferana · 31/07/2020 17:06

Nicola Sturgeon's cautious approach is the reason why Scotland has had so few Covid deaths and why they are doing SO much better than England. I can understand Scots feeling frustrated when they see other parts of the UK having more freedom, but Scotland is actually on course for zero cases, whereas England has nae fuckin' chance of that currently.

SpanishPork · 31/07/2020 17:11

@zafferana

We’ve had more than 4500 Covid deaths- the third highest rate in the world. Hardly ‘very few deaths’.

britINscotland · 31/07/2020 17:13

Yep 3rd Highest in the World.

Horse. Stable. Door.

One minute condemning those anti English protesters at the border, the next minute saying self isolate if you're coming from N England.

We need Ruth.

zafferana · 31/07/2020 17:19

Yes, I know that @SpanishPork, but recently Scotland's figures have been much better. We were all in the shit in April/May, I appreciate that, but right now Scotland is doing well and a darn sight better than England is with dithering Boris. But I agree that Ruth Davidson is great @britINscotland - I wish she was the Tory leader.

SockYarn · 31/07/2020 17:22

Her mates have been out at Central station this afternoon. And as per, Ms Sturgeon will say nothing to condemn the behaviour of these racist idiots.

britINscotland · 31/07/2020 17:24

she's actively encouraging it now.

The protesters at the borders said they got permission from NS. It was dismissed as untrue. I don't think it was.

Jodri · 31/07/2020 17:28

I was quite shocked to read on the Scot.gov website that as of 27th July of the 180,709 people advised to shield in Scotland 5,712 had died.

WouldBeGood · 31/07/2020 17:41

@SockYarn that poster is vile. And racist.

maddy68 · 31/07/2020 17:47

She's handled this like an intelligent adult I wish we had her as our leader

LovelyWeekAway · 31/07/2020 17:49

jodri That’s a shocking statistic

britINscotland · 31/07/2020 17:56

I'm sure the Scottish Tourism sector just love Nicola right now. Right at the start of the English school holidays as well.

SockYarn · 31/07/2020 18:01

And Nicola's wee fans standing at Glasgow Central telling people arriving on the Euston train to fuck off back home.

Nice. But yeah, isn't she inspirational and amazing? Hmm

AudacityOfHope · 31/07/2020 18:19

Died of coronavirus @Jodri ?
