Hi everyone

Thought that as the 7th is fast approaching, it would be worth doing a thread to for the day and the build up.

Dd needs a B in anything to get into Uni and ds is getting his Nat5 results. Will be a tense morning.

I'm awake but didn't go to sleep until half 2. Everyone else still asleep. Well DH is at work but doesn't count. :o

I'm going to get showered and dressed in preparation for the visit to school we may have to make later if DS2 needs to change his subjects.

All A's here for DD in her Nat5 which is very surprising especially in her maths! She had to work for it though, not naturally academic. Hope everyone else has good results.

Oh nothing there when typing. Well done for those results and your poor D'S Groovee. Not looking good for DS2s maths resit then :(

Disappointed DD3 . 2 A's,,1B, 3 Cs and 1 D. Tears Sad. Total rethink for Highers needed and request for remark for PEas she was predicted A awarded C means she must have scored about zero for written element. Oh well Nando's tonight Brewfor now

BC at AH for DD. The other way round from what she expected though. Pleased and disappointed in equal measure but she has an unconditional so doesn't affect anything.

Well done Groovee DD!

DS still isn’t up and we’re all jet lagged so I’m loathe to wake him. I have an appointment at 10 so I suspect it’ll be this afternoon before I find out how he’s done.

5As and a B at Higher from a state school in S5! Smile

(He did sit Higher Music a year early though)

He's hoping to try for Oxford as well as Glasgow/Edinburgh for Law.

I'm sorry to hear of disappointments as well as delight.

Xx

Tears via phone from DD. I told her that after all her issues this year she'd passed in my eyes by managing to turn up and stay in school long enough to complete all her exams.

She's now had her phone taken off her again and won't be in contact until Saturday. Unless she really freaks out 🙈

DD got an ABCC at higher. She's doing 1 crash higher in S6 and 2 advanced highers in the subjects she got the A and B in. I don't know what to advise her?

Depends what she wants/needs for what she wants to do next. Does she have any idea?

This is my first year in 6 that I haven't had a DC waiting for results. I guess I'm in here out of habit!

My DS left school with 4 highers ABCC, it's a sad reality that the 2 C grades don't really count for much as far as Uni entry goes. He had to do an Hnd at college to get into Uni.

In your DD's position, I would advise that she does her crash Higher and resits the two subjects she got the Cs in. If she can squeeze in an AH in her best subject, then she could try it, but be prepared to drop it if she's finding the 3 Highers a struggle.

I think getting a strong 5/6 Highers at A and B is more important than any AHs.

Waiting on the email too and wishing DD had signed up for a text. DN made her first choice uni offer so delighted for her.

Lidlfix - that seems strange for PE, given that (unless it has changed since ds did his Nat 5) there isn't a formal exam for it and it's all assignments, an evaluation of performing a sport and a write-up of that sporting event. Ds pretty much knew he'd got an A before he'd even started the rest of his formal exams.

I was talking to his teacher as he was doing the evaluation (a rugby game at a weekend, which happened to be close to where the PE teacher lived, so easy for him to come along - although they could have used a school rugby game) and he said that ds had scored full marks and that he just needed to write up a good report of his objectives and how he delivered them (iirc) then that was him set up for a good result.

What sport did your dd do?

Come to think of it, it wasn't the teacher who taught the Nat 5 who assessed him (that one had tried to persuade us at the Parents' Evening that "live saving would be easier to get a good mark in rather than a team sport and was ds any good at rugby?" HmmConfused Fortunately, one of the other PE teachers had been the rugby coach since ds was in S1 (when the school became an official SRU School of Rugby) and knew how good ds was - and had been trained in evaluating for Nat 5 Grin

Dundee have confirmed that dd has an unconditional offer.

It's been a stressful few minutes as her phone broke and she couldn't remember her password!

I’m back on the exam treadmill with ds after 3 years off after dd. Ds waiting for Nat5 results, but didn’t sign up for text or email-our post doesn’t come till after lunchtime! I’ve been in holiday and do pickring me up from the airport this afternoon, but he’s under strict instructions to not leave for the airport till the post has come!! Dd has probably done ok, if not quite well, but I don’t want him opening that envelope alone if he doesn’t have to!

Waiting here. Ds signed up to text but nothing yet, so he is wondering if he signed up properly. Do they filter through or all sent at the same time?

Prettybird - swimming was a club swimmer till recently so had full marks for practical element. So had a C before she put pen to paper. The proportion of marks for practical and evaluation of performance have changed since your DS sat N5. More marks to written element less to practical.

Will be request a remark as she satisfies school/LA policy of being 2 grades out. She can't lose. Hard for her as Higher PE was her back up if Maths didn't go her way and she only got a C there too...

Texts all sent at same time but can take a while to filter through. Emails take forever.
