Hi everyone

Thought that as the 7th is fast approaching, it would be worth doing a thread to for the day and the build up.

Dd needs a B in anything to get into Uni and ds is getting his Nat5 results. Will be a tense morning.

DD3 is now fretting that she hasn't signed up for text/email alerts correctly and as she has work won't be around for the envelope. Her work is 10 mins drive and I have no plans for Tuesday... She picked the wrong science (Physics) and her school force them to take a MFL, she really struggled with that as a dyslexic. She is really anxious that despite being a hard worker and able that she's only going to get 5 nat 5s.

This won't impact on choices for S5 so I am fairly relaxed and trying to convince her that once you sit Highers nobody is interested in your Nat5's. Only potential change would be if she gets a C or below for Maths as a C suggests Higher would be too much. She has a straight forward change to PE in the same column- no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

Family tradition of Nando's dinner is at least something to look forward to. Undecided whether or not to swing by work on results day or whether or not to leave it a day or so but curiosity may well get the better of me.

I've just realised that DD is on a cadet camp thing next week and she has to hand her phone in when they arrive on Sunday 🙈 Once she emerges this morning I'll have to see what the new plan is.

I am already feeling gutted for DS2 for his poor results - which is probably a bit presumptious! ;o

Wax my colleague is feeling like that about her son's results and he's the same age as my ds.

I'm not your colleague (i'm fairly sure) so there are more than one of us! DS2 has so much turned a corner this year in terms of his motivation and attitude and mood (except for his plastic surgery cancellation debacle) but I am scared that it's been too little to late on the effort and it's not going to reflect in his results and it'll set him back. It's been so lovely to see him smiling. I could actually be physically sick which is a complete over-reaction I know.

Groovee · 02/08/2018 23:32

No you really aren't my colleague. Was just saying that she's not feeling that great over her own child's results!

We probably shouldn't be so invested. Hope we all end up happy next week. I'm working on my "it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things" face.

Dd has said she'll be happy with C's.
I honestly don't mind so long as she's ok.
It's been a difficult year, I 've been in hospital twice this summer, and though Dd's much happier at her new school the change was a lot for her.
She seems positive in herself so that's good.

My son plans to set his alarm for 8.05 so he can wake up to his results.
There are 2 things he is assuming. 1. He will sleep. 2 DH and i will be asleep!

Been distracted with my new washing machine but just wanted to say that this time tomorrow it'll all be over...

Good luck to everyone's DC (or yourself if you are waiting), hope tomorrow brings everyone what they need or want.

Does your DD have a conditional offer, Groovee? I've heard (on Mumsnet!) of people hearing via UCAS before they get their exam results!

Good luck everyone for tomorrow.

Report
WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2018 16:30

Yep, I've heard as well that it's worth a look at UCAS first thing as they've had the results for a few days already. No use for me as DS2 just going into 6th year and hasn't applied yet and DS1 doesn't care what he gets.

Report
Groovee · 06/08/2018 16:39

Yes she needs 1 B so fingers crossed. I know her friend didn't hear til 9am on her ucas. And refused to open her results until it updated 2 years ago.

DS2 says he is feeling neither confident nor despondent. In general he likes to think the worst so that he isn't disappointed and he's therefore saying this is a good sign. I'm feeling the opposite.

I'd like DS1 to do well of course, just to mean that he has something to show for his last year, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. DS2 needs to do well and he really really needs to have passed maths Nat5.

We've not mentioned the monetary reward this year as in some ways it seemed to make DS2 put more pressure on himself and therefore feel even more down when he didn't earn as much as DS1 did and had the previous year too. I'll ned to discuss with DH what he thinks tonight. DS1 got to gamble on what he thought his grades would be and structure his reward based on that. Obviously not done that with DS2 as we just haven't raised it at all.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2018 18:03

So much for it all be OK here, Dd hasn't spoken to me for two days which means she's not doing well at all.
This is her way of dealing with things, she has undiagnosed PDA.
Wax, Dd is doing the dreaded Nat5 math resit this year.

Would it be really bad to leave and check into a hotel tonight?
Joke, joke.

I have a year off from DCs receiving results this year - so I'd just like to say good luck to all of you and your DCs for tomorrow Smile
