Practicals have already started for many, folios are being worked on... here's the 2028 thread to get us through.

I have Dd sitting 3 highers and D's sitting 6 Nat 5's. Oh the stress.

DS1 did both Wicked. He then struggled to narrow down those when he did his AHs and he ended up with CS and Physics timetabled at the same time so he has only had half the amount of periods of each subject for the year. ES and Physics are really similar so if he is doing Physics, he may have been better doing CS?

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/03/2018 21:34

DS1 did sacrifice English! He did Maths, Physics, Engineering Science, Computing Science and Graph Comm (crash) at Higher.

WickedGoodDoge · 17/03/2018 22:21

Argh, Wax maybe I should have asked the school! They said that only in very unusual cases would a student be allowed to drop either Maths or English at Higher. Maybe there would have been some flexibility.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/03/2018 22:29

Ha ha you are quite safe!

DS1 is very shy and anxious and has had selective mutism. he found English and the presentation element of it really stressful and we wanted to give him a break and have a year where he could do things that he loves. At the end of the day he was always going to be doing a technical type of job and he got an A at Nat 5 English so we didn't view it as an issue. He is sitting with 4 unconditional acceptances at Uni and waiting to hear from No5. The original plan was for him to pick it up again in S6 but when it came to it we realised he wouldn't need it.

WickedGoodDoge · 18/03/2018 09:18

Glad it worked out for him, Wax - four offers is fantastic!

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/03/2018 11:33

Dd doing four highers, she's away on a study residential this weekend.

SwiftAnchor · 18/03/2018 11:42

Dd only doing 2 crash highers this year, she has her unconditional offer in so she doesn't need them so the pressure is off this year thankfully!! 😅

Suffering from a major case of unconditionalitis and has been since before xmas. I do feel for her a bit actually, but still making her attend!

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/03/2018 13:03

Dd couldn't do Mths this year so has to do it next year, she failed Nat5 but is still considering Higher in some sort of combined something or otherConfused
She couldn't do History either so that's next year plus a couple of AH which will be two sciences I think.
That's if she passes this year, you can never tell from one minute to the next with her and actually talking to me isn't her strong point!

Groovee · 29/03/2018 05:56

Dd did her practical Higher Drama last week. She was happy with it.

Sturmundcalm · 02/04/2018 10:40

3 AH and 1 crash higher this year - and she doesn't need any of them...

better timetabling of her exams this year as last year she had 4 in a week which was kind of stressful!

prettybird · 02/04/2018 11:35

Ds seems to have succumbed to Unconditionalitis Hmm - says he doesn't need to work for anything which strictly speaking is true.

I think his exams are over within a week: something like AH Maths on Thursday, AH Physics on Tuesday and Higher Modern Studies on Wednesday - all over by 9th May Shock

He says he's going to prioritise Modern Studies over his Physics as that is more relevant for his degree and he's lost his mojo for Physics

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/04/2018 13:29

Doesn't seem to be any study going on in our house. DS2 has two exams the first week and two the second so he is all done by the 11th. DS1 has one on each of those weeks, then a one week gap then last exam on the 22nd. Then that's him until sometime in September I presume. Study leave starts the 30th of April so just 2 weeks of school after the holidays and that will be DS1 done except for his exams and that'll be DS2 until 11th June I think.

WickedGoodDoge · 02/04/2018 17:43

DS has Spanish first which is fantastic as it is his weakest subject and he just wants to get it over and done with. The other 7 are fairly well spread out other than Philosophy, Chemistry and Engineering Science which are all back to back over a Monday and Tuesday, I think, but they are his best subjects so he’s not too concerned about it.

Groovee · 09/04/2018 08:30

Dd is going into school to practice someone's dance choreography piece. She's finding it hard as the person hasn't finished the choreography yet and has changed the timings already today.

Ds is going in for extra maths.

DS is off doing his Silver practice DoE expedition which is giving him a bit of a break from studying. Grin I’m not holding out much hope for his safe return though. The fool child forgot his route plan and map and I had to drop everything to get them to him before the minibus left!

I have no idea as to where they are either, given that whenever asked, DS seemed to spout out a new random location, so I can’t even send a search party if needed. Grin

Groovee · 09/04/2018 11:23

Ah well at least you get a break @WickedGoodDoge 😂

OP posts:
WickedGoodDoge · 10/04/2018 21:21

I did, Groovee . Grin

Well, he made it back. He really hurt his leg on day one and was chased by a bunch of rams on day 2, but he pushed through and did it. I let him stay home today because he really truly has properly hurt his leg!

One boy in his group hurt his hip on day one and pretty much collapsed on day two so two boys stayed with him while the other two marched to the next town where the assessors were so they could go rescue him. They got positive feedback on their team effort, but poor kid!

The other boy group ate something on the first evening that should have been refrigerated and they all had food poisoning (well, not severe but everyone sick at both ends!) and had to be driven around on the second day until they recovered enough for day three.

Their bronze expeditions were much more successful!

Groovee · 10/04/2018 21:32

Sorry but laughing at the rams. Well done to them for getting help.

I have ds in S4 sitting Nat5s and dd1 in S6 sitting a mixture.

Ds is doing exam study days in school this week. His exams are quite well spread out over the weeks, he's doing English Maths Ghaidhlig Art Geography, Physics Chemistry and Computing. Chemistry is the only one he's worried about, he cant wait for it to be over!

Dd1 is doing AH Art, H Photography and Graphic Comms, Nat5 Maths. She has a conditional offer for Glasgow School of Art and needs AB in her highers, which is doable, she's working very, very hard. Even getting an interview was a great achievement so she's really, really keen to get in! The maths is taking a back seat, but it would be great to get it out of the way. In the meantime she has 3 folios to finish.

ttlshiwwya · 11/04/2018 22:21

Well done to your daughter getting an offer from GSA. DD and I went to the Scottish degree show exhibition last week in Edinburgh - we loved it.. I hope she gets in.

My DD has four exams on consecutive days, Friday off and then another on the Monday..Luckily her other 3 are well spread. They are the first year that have done national 5s over two years so it will be interesting to see how successful. Only good thing is that it's forced her to keep studying French and she discovered that she really likes it..

prettybird · 23/04/2018 10:51

Last week of school ever for ds! Shock

Where has the time gone?! I still remember his first day, when he was so cute in his shorts and Velcro black shoes.

His studying seems to be going ok - he's certainly spending a lot of time in his room Wink - and he's even turned down the opportunity to go to Super Saturday at Murrayfield this weekend (despite rugby being his obsession passion) as "it's too close to the exams". (first exam a week on Thursday)

He seems confident enough about his AH Maths - says it could be an A or a B and he'll definitely pass it. He really wants an A for his Modern Studies Higher and will sacrifice a good result for his AH Physics (although he still reckons he'll pass it), which is the day before, in order to concentrate on it.

The fact that he's still motivated and committed pleases me, given that he's got an Unconditional for Aberdeen, which he has now firmed. Smile

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/04/2018 18:25

Well done with that commitment pb. Ds2 is going to the rugby with his dad and uncles, he doesn't even like rugby but I think he imagines himself in the pub scoffing back cider all afternoon... He could be doing with the study time.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/04/2018 23:22

School website info on exams - makes a change to have some right enough but surely someone could have checked it over? maybe someone from the English dept maybe?

maybe it's motivational advice? don't peak on another exam cause this should be THE ONE?? ;-)

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/04/2018 07:01

Maybe... it was on the slides that were used for the DC assemblies....HmmConfusedShock
