My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Well done to all those who are finished their exams, it must be a huge relief.

My Dd has only had one AH so far, music. She now has AH Mods on Monday, AH German on Wednesday and Nat 5 Mandarin on Friday. On top of that she has an audition on Wednesday evening and she's in full day rehearsals today. Busy, busy!.

One little computing story from last year..My Ds (with Aspergers) got an A for H Computing in 5th year and last year sat the AH. He was in a room on his own and thought the exam had gone well and finished it in good time. It was soon discovered by the invigilator that he had been give the H paper rather than the AH paper!

The staff gave him a sandwich as it was lunchtime (and he should have been coming home) and an invigilator sat with him while he ate it. He then had to sit the AH paper, so a long day for him! He ended up passing the paper, but failing miserably on the project part so failed overall. We never did find out how he fared on the Higher paper!

DS1 starts his silver dofe practise expedition on Friday so hoping it stays fine.

Groovee · 29/05/2016 16:12

Oh I hope it rains Wed/thurs and is nice as its our local fair day and I am representing Girlguiding!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/05/2016 16:19

Met Office and BBC weather on-line all predicting sun right through to Sat /Sun. I even checked Glasgow in case it was just us :)

Lidlfix · 29/05/2016 16:55

Weather will be glorious until I mark and submit my final paper to SQA. Then it will break and be pish. Every year, every decking year Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/05/2016 17:36

Lidl any chance you could leave that until a week on Monday? :o

Groovee · 29/05/2016 17:48

Lidl, how long until you finish marking? Am trying to work out how many BBQ's I can fit in Grin

Lidlfix · 29/05/2016 19:08

Actually a week on Monday should just about do it Magnum. I shall be ahem "resting" next Sunday as we have a small celebration on Saturday. If I am allocated more papers then the clement conditions may well continue though I can't promise bbq conditions for a fortnight's time Grovee Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/05/2016 19:48

Much appreciated Lidl :) What is it you are marking?

Groovee · 29/05/2016 20:07

Good luck with the marking X

Groovee · 29/05/2016 21:07

What's happened to the Forth Road Bridge? Just drive back from Dunfermline!!!

Nat 5/Highers etc - Anyone getting ready with their S4 - S6 dc?
OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/05/2016 21:36

It's crystal clear here grovee, was that tonight?

unlucky83 · 29/05/2016 22:00

groovee has probably been abducted by aliens ...Wink
I wouldn't have risked going into the unknown like that...it looks like something out of a horror film when you are screaming at the TV - just get out of there! Noooooo - don't go down into the basement...

prettybird · 29/05/2016 22:54

Glorious evening here in Glasgow. Unfortunately couldn't have a braai as I had to give my dad a lift to the airport at just the time that would've been brilliant to eat out on the patio (did manage a small glass of wine on the patio as a reward for our hard work in the garden before going to pick dad up SmileWine)

Glad to hear that we have another week to plan braais/BBQs thanks to Lidl's marking activity. Smile

Good luck to those sitting Modern Studies tomorrow. Smile

Groovee · 30/05/2016 06:55

Good luck to the modern studies exam sitters today!

The Fife side was glorious then I drove towards the bridge and it was missing. Ds took the photo for me. Edinburgh became foggy and cold!

unlucky83 · 30/05/2016 09:25

Good Luck to the modern studies sitters as well!
Glad you made it to the other side Groovee - you've not had any weird dreams about alien creatures or anything have you?

hidingwithwine · 30/05/2016 10:52

DS1 went away to Mods looking calm. Emailed his my Mods teacher who saw him just before he went in and said he looked like one of the calmest there. Here's hoping!!🙈

weegiemum · 30/05/2016 12:04

Good luck to modern studies folks who are sitting/have sat today.

I got my arms sunburned yesterday so am staying out of the sun today - it was such a great day yesterday that we had church outside on the lawn and I just didn't notice how strong the sun was (kids were all fine!). Hoping it lasts until the weekend as its the church weekend away and it would be so good to bbq outside on saturday evening.

Dd1 is "studying" but to be honest she's done enough, she's happy that she'll come out ok of this busy week. Art tomorrow afternoon, then Ghaidlig on Wednesday afternoon and D&M Thursday morning. I'm in hospital on Thursday am but should be out by 1 so we're off out for lunch and shopping then!

DS says one 20 point question "threw him for a loop" as they hadn't covered it. The rest he could answer as he'd studied them. He's up to ninety and I'm stuck in school until after 5 tonight 😔

prettybird · 30/05/2016 13:09

If it's any consolation, I got a question in Russian history exam on a topic I hadn't studied. I literally made up the answer, using a combination of general knowledge and what I imagined that the person would've done (I think it was about Karl Marx but I can't remember).

I passed Smile

hidingwithwine · 30/05/2016 13:11

Thanks Prettybird. I'm hoping he's answered all the other questions fully enough to get the marks he needs. It's so hard when they are wailing down the phone at you "I'll never get to uni, I'm an idiot..." No, you're a beautiful, sensitive young man who lets nerves get to you. I wish he could see himself as others do eternal cry of a teenagers mum

prettybird · 30/05/2016 13:22

I'm sure he has. My Russian History was at Uni (I think it was 2nd Year) and it's amazing what you can come up with and still get marks Wink

You've said that your ds is good at Modern Studies, so he'll probably have got more marks than he thinks, just through using common sense and general knowledge, for the question that threw him.

Groovee · 30/05/2016 13:46

They don't see reason when they go into this "I've failed" mode.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 30/05/2016 14:15

Oh dear :( I also hope he has done enough elsewhere, did his classmates think the same? what's twitter etc. saying? hopefully it's thrown a lot of them and the mark will be lowered.

On a brighter note the antibiotics seem to be clearing DSs face well so far so we are hopeful that he may have some relief and his face improves enough to be able to shave off his dirty looking tache and the beginnings of a scrawny beard. He couldn't touch it before as his face was just too red, bloody and painful before he got near it with a sharp object!

I feel bad about using antibiotics given that we are supposed to be not using them, but he couldn't go on the way he was and nothing else was helping for more than a few days at a time. I also don't think he has ever had them (ridiculously healthy child) and I've had one course in the last 40 years for a tooth infection, DH is similar and DS2 has had them twice but he really needed them (strep throat with complications).

rogueantimatter · 30/05/2016 19:07

DS' friend found the higher Mod Studies more difficult than he had expected. Much less confident after MS than after any of the others.

Very well done with your DS not having antibiotics until now Onemagnum Get him to take a probiotic to keep his gut in good health. Smile

What an amazing photo of the forth road bridge.

dotdot - I remember you saying about your DS sitting the Higher paper instead of AH last year. What a shame! How is he getting on now?
