My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Are we the only ones here with exams going into June? At least all her schoolfriends are the same as its Gaelic on the 1st and thats compulsory for them at nat5. I'll be here on my own by then!!

Ds1s last one is next Tuesday weegie so I'll be here til then :o

According to the school exam timetable there is Modern Studies on Monday, Art on Tuesday, German and Psychology on Wednesday, Nothing on Thursday and Politics and PE on Friday.

Are we saving this thread (if it has any room left) for the results day or starting a new one? You don't need to share all, but it would be nice to hear if some people's confidence was justified and whether things for some were as bad as they feared and if those needing certain grades got them. What do you all think?

Groovee · 24/05/2016 21:20

Might be best to link this thread to a new thread as we're at 700+

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 21:22

Okay, we'll cling on here until the end of next week (or whoever has the last exam) and then direct over to a new one ready for August?

This is starting to feel like our personal chat room :)

IndigoApple · 24/05/2016 22:11

DD had Nat 5 physics today, thought multiple choice hard but written paper OK. She thinks she's passed anyway.

Weegiemum DD also has Design & Manufacture next Thursday, it's her last one but I think she feels the worst is over after today. She says she doesn't need to study for D&M but I intend to tempt her with some BBC Bitesize over the weekend Smile

Thanks for the reminder it's in the morning!!

Groovee · 25/05/2016 08:45

Me and Dd are going to come to blows. She's fine now. Think she needed some rest! But she's needing an X-ray and is still lying in bed right now!

lamusic · 25/05/2016 08:46

Weegie I'll be here, did is Gaelic learners (which was last week) but it's her first day back

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 08:48

Hamlets - your DS is doing 4 AH's! That sounds very tough.

"malicious hoax calls" according to the news on tv . School leavers who have a grudge?

So the exams go on until 3rd june - that explains why many senior pupils don't return until 6th.

DS and his friend were appalled at the suggestion made by one school for S4 pupils to wear a senior tie as they are not nearly as 'mature as the S5s.' Grin

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 08:50

Groovee - Chocolate - hope your DD is completely well asap

prettybird · 25/05/2016 08:56

The SRU (at least in the West of Scotland) seems to think that exams have finished Hmm as it's arranged the U17/U18 rugby trials for Monday afternoon at 3pm in Cumbernauld Angry

Groovee · 25/05/2016 09:01

Our school has sweatshirts to S3 the shirt and ties for S4 and beyond.

prettybird · 25/05/2016 09:06

Ds' school has different ties and blazers for S6 only.

Ds has a tie, which is a strict part of the uniform, but hasn't worn a blazer since early on S1 - I passed it on to my neighbour's son in virtually pristine condition barring all the white cat hairs Hmm

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 09:54

It makes more sense to get the use of a tie/blazer for more than one or two years - they don't always last two or three years but I grudged paying £9 for an S6 tie. £9!!!!

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 09:56

DS' school is super strict about wearing blazers at almost all times. Shame they're not stricter about using/selling weed and tobacco in school.

prettybird · 25/05/2016 10:07

I think ds' tie was only £3 - but it's 4 years since I bought it Wink

I'm a bit Hmm at having to buy ds a new blazer for S6 (he's said he will wear it then) and because he's a placing request, I don't really know other parents who've got kids in the year above to buy one 2nd hand. Iirc, the school blazer supplier is very reasonable - something like £25 - so I suppose I should be grateful for small mercies.

Groovee · 25/05/2016 10:23

They get a green tie for S6 but Dd can give it to Ds to wear 2 years later.

X-ray done. Bacon roll eaten, some rest before I kick her out in 2 hours for her drama exam.

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 10:49

Good luck to your DD Groovee

Meant to sympathise with prettybird rugby trial during exam period and wish him luck.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 25/05/2016 10:51

Ours keep same colour blazer from 1st to 5th year (at £45 a pop) I'm hoping to get away with only 3 per child but it's not looking hopeful and I can't pass them on because they take the same size and they look tatty anyway. Ties are £6 a time. They change to a senior tie in 4th and 5th year. Complete change of uniform for 6th year, new blazer and tie. (£45 plus £6) I'm guessing I wont be able to re-use the 6th year blazer either as I'd feel bad that one got new and the other didn't, plus DS2 is a bit broader built so may need a different size as the 6th year ones are a bit better tailored than the other ones.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 25/05/2016 10:53

Plus they are now out of school shirts (squeezing into them until end of year) and trousers (too small) so I have to buy adult ones (trousers £22 a pair for last year) and I'm trying not to think how much I'm about to shell out on 10 white shirts :(

prettybird · 25/05/2016 11:04

Ds is ok for the rugby trial as his last exam is this Friday. But it's not fair on those doing Modern Studies (hardly a "rare" subject Hmm) which finished as 2.45 on Monday afternoon - nor on those who still have exams to sit (like German and Design & Manufacture) who would be wary of a head knock or other injury which could impact on their ability to sit the exams. Sad

AssembleTheMinions · 25/05/2016 11:07

We are all done here too. Last exam was higher physics yesterday. She thinks it went ok she said that about the prelim and managed to fail it

I'm trying not to stress, I think it's going to be a very close call to see if she has made her conditions. She really doesn't want her insurance course, she put it down because it was an unconditional and wanted to be sure she would be going somewhere. I must have a look and see what happens if she misses her grades. Does anyone know if she has to take the insurance? Would it be worth calling the firm to see if there is any movement?

I think we need to hope for the best and plan for the worst. Any advice would be gratefully received.

wigglybeezer · 25/05/2016 12:45

I have the perennial blazer problem, DS2 is a skinny beanpole, his blazer is now too short in sleeves and body but still baggy round the middle, I may have to buy a bigger size and then have it taken in by a tailor, a lot of money to spend on a piece of purple polyester ( which looks especially vivid against his auburn hair!).

DS2 finishes on Friday but As usual he is being hermit like and hasn't arranged anything social for next week, I will have to prod him.

OneMagnum, they didn't even have Blazers ( or prefects) when I went to your DSs' school and the uniform was red and grey, a lot of the boys wore red shirts ( looked really good against spotty faces).

OneMagnumisneverenough · 25/05/2016 13:08

wiggly the new uniform came in just before mine started I think. At the time the older classes were still transitioning from (I think) black. The bright blue is a treat too but I don't think the red would have looked good with DS1s face at the moment. He's now on antibiotics and different cream so we'll see if he has a face under there soon I hope.

When we last went to the uniform suppliers we were in the same boat re blazers, DS1 isn't super skinny but he is 6'2 so far. The size he needed for length could wrap round him twice. Anyway they managed to find one Long version in the cupboards in a size that fitted him but she said it was the only one and they can't order in L any more. It was like Cinderella's slipper when he got it, it's starting to look short again but I think he is just going to have to manage out 5th year with it as I wont be able to get anything else to fit.

They still don't have prefects but do have Head Boy and Girl and 2 deputies each.

rogueantimatter · 25/05/2016 13:41

Same here with beanpole ill-fitting blazer syndrome. DS loathes blazers with a passion.

prettybird - rugby sounds very scary.

prettybird · 25/05/2016 15:21

Ds isn't tall (still only about 5'6") but very slim. I have to but him the adjustable M&S trousers and then take them in to their maximum.

Re the rugby - I actually get more scared watching him in cycle races than at rugby - I've witnessed more accidents there. Having said that, the only serious accident he's had in 10 years of playing rugby was a broken collarbone - a typical cycling injury Confused. But a few of his friends have been concussed - they're not allowed to play for a minimum of 3 weeks afterwards. It's taken very seriously.
