Partner doesn’t believe I was raped

I’m in a state of disbelief so forgive any mistakes please. I need to know how to understand what has just happened or gain any insight into any of my own wrongdoing.

Partner was cross at me this morning because we made plans which I still wanted to go ahead with but he’s a bit hungover and reluctant. That’s the context. We were bickering.
The subject came up that I needed him to come with me to the shops (as planned yesterday), hinting that I’m some kind of dependent on him (I’m not). This descended into nastiness related to me being a sponge (I’m not). I made the point that if I were a goldigger or a sponge, I would’ve set my sights on a rich man. He then said I couldn’t do any better than him and why don’t I try (insert Rapist’s name here), which absolutely floored me. Why bring it up? It didn’t make sense in the context of the argument as he is unemployed.
I asked why my partner had brought up such a subject and he said ‘we both know it never happened anyway’. I’m sick to my stomach. I was then told that I loved every minute, that if it were true I’d have gone to the police and that if I wanted to I could’ve stopped it and shouldn’t have been at the rapist’s house in the first place. I said everything he just told me is the reason I didn’t want to go to the police.
I told him I would have no reason to have ever made this up and confided it was anal rape. I’ve been with my partner for 10 years and he knows I’m not into it. I thought he would think twice, but he doubled down and said that back in the day, his friend had told everyone in the pub that I’d had anal sex with him and that he was going round high fiving everyone about it. I didn’t even know this! And it’s not even true.
Why is my partner doing this? he has never forgiven me for having a short relationship with a friend of his, prior to meeting him. Tells me I’m a slag because of it. He called me a slag in the above exchange about the rape, as a reason for not believing me. I asked him how he could be with someone who he thinks would lie about something like this and he said he doesn’t know and is ‘rethinking everything’. I walked out of the coffee shop in disgust and am now dreading him coming home. What the fuck am I meant to do with all this information he’s given me about myself? I didn’t realise he was sitting on all these horrible thoughts.

Good to hear you don't feel threatened OP, agree with PPs, don't feel pressured to do it to anyone's timetable here. You seem like a really strong and intelligent woman who can see him clearly now. Sorry to hear he continues to be so vile though, and in front of your son too.

UnintentionalArcher · Yesterday 21:24

Leave him, but don’t tell him until you have it all planned out. Take time to plan if you need to to get everything in place - finances etc. Ideally do not be the one to leave the house. What is your living situation? You will need support as he will turn nasty and you will be in danger around the time you leave. Have friends or family on hand to help you if needed. Phone Women’s Aid for advice.

I don’t know how I’d carry on with this relationship either but I’m in a state of shock right now. It seems like he actually hates me and wants to hurt me as much as possible but I don’t know why

I agree he does hate you, not your problem to analyse why just please please make a plan to leave him safely. Don’t discuss with him or try and make him understand your feelings etc you’ll get nowhere with someone like him.’

I don’t want to be with him. Sorry I’m not moving fast enough for everyone

I don’t think people expect you to kick him out straight away because they want you to follow their advice. I think they’re worried he will wear you down with his gaslighting and abusive behaviour.

Obviously someone who’s so unpleasant will have worn down your self esteem and that’s partly why you feel exhausted in dealing with it all.

You’re right to take things one step at a time but it would be even better if you could get him out as soon as possible.

BCBird · Yesterday 21:28

You do not have to prove it happened. You know it did. You must make arrangements to leave. As people say get your ducks in a row. He is despicable.

BCBird · Yesterday 21:29

Can you a access some counselling too OP. Are u able to go into a spare room? You will get peace.

Maybe he actually likes the idea. My hubby after 15 years started calling me names during sex. I found out after a while that he loves the fantasy of me acting like a slut. I am submissive and stay quiet and let him tell me anything now.

I’m not poking the bear, he is goading me. He’s now taken himself off to somewhere else in the house.
I’ve explained upthread why. I know I’m done with this but I’m doing this on my own terms and in my own time, which will be soon. I can’t spring into action today. I just can’t. I respect all the advice to do so, it’s just easier said than done. I’d probably advise kicking him out asap and changing the locks myself, in fact I’m sure I’ve commented the same on other threads on here. But now it’s me and not a stranger on the internet and I can’t do it today.

Don't worry about doing it on anybody else's terms @amigoingmadd
Anyone who has been in your position understands it's just not physically or psychologically possible to just do an instant turnaround.
Just remain strong and know that you will make it happen asap.
Sending love and strength to you x

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Yesterday 21:32

One action you could take is get a ring doorbell so that when you do kick him out you can gather evidence if he turns up and is nasty or unsafe. Call the police if he does please. Follow legallynik on Instagram and any family law stuff you can as he will create a custody battle over your dd to hurt you. The more evidence you can gather that you’re the main caregiver doing school admin etc and that he is aggressive will help in a custody battle
once he goes, create a new email just for him and do all child arrangements over that email not by phone or follow up with email if needed so you have it all in one place , WhatsApp’s can get deleted

Dancingintherain09 · Yesterday 21:32

Keep a log of everything on your phone, my favourite piece of advice write it as an email to yourself. As its stored and accessible from anywhere you can sign in.
That way if you lose your phone or it gets smashed up etc you keep your notes.
Again this is emotional abuse, and hes ramped it up and doing it in front of your child.

His mum has met him for a coffee. I’ve told him to speak to her about moving in with her as I could never move past this. He said I’m making it into a big deal and he’ll be home I soon. He doesn’t care at all

He can have loads of cosy chats with mummy. Don't give in.

PrincessFairyWren · Yesterday 21:34

Bloody hell OP this whole thread has made my blood run cold. I on you say that you aren’t frightened of him physically but everything you posted makes me think this man is extremely dangerous. Please speak to a family violence help line. So much you have described are risk factors for things escalating very quickly. Take copies of your documents and your kids stuff and keep these at a friend’s house or work.

CHANGE THE LOCKS NOW!!!!

Get CCTV.

these men get help from other men who know all the tricks to cause very serious harm.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Yesterday 21:34

Also, when you tell him to leave, it’s not your job to work out where he’ll stay etc (did you ask your mum?) he can be a grown up and sort himself out.

krustykittens · Yesterday 21:37

He's an evil, snivelling little cunt, OP, I am so glad you are getting rid of him. Keep safe! x

Namechangewegovyjune26 · Yesterday 21:38

Please stay safe OP

NegativeFreak · Yesterday 21:38

The moment he steps out of the house, get your locks changed.

That's doesn't sound like being submissive, that sounds like being an abuse victim. There's a big difference between consensual kink where everyone is enthusiastic and wants what is happening after discussing it beforehand, and "letting" someone verbally abuse you after they spontaneously started doing so during sex without any prior discussion about whether you wanted it.

Isthisit22 · Yesterday 21:43

But why not make him leave?
This is all very harmful for your son to witness. Do it for him if not yourself.

I was trying to say maybe he doesn't believe in what he is saying.

It’s the man who attacked me who is unemployed, which is why it didn’t make sense to say ‘why don’t you try him’ when I said ‘well if I’m a gold digger I’d have gone for a rich man’. It came out of nowhere and then he seemed to get more and more annoyed. He has since asked me (since being home), why I brought up this man’s name but I didn’t! it was him. I feel like I’m going mad but I know I’m not.
He’s mocking me now. Has sidled up in a ‘what are you like, silly’ way batting his eyelashes and asked if I’ll sleep with him and pointed out he’s asked for consent 🙄 he finds himself hilarious. He’s stuck his finger up and said ‘this is for all your online people’
Honestly I’m starting to wonder if he’s ok mentally.

This is domestic abuse.

He's gaslighting you to minimise your hurt on his disgusting behaviour.

Don't let this slide OP it will get worse and it'll make you ill 💜

FluffyBoots · Yesterday 21:49

amigoingmadd · Yesterday 15:46

This is what I’m thinking now. I need to disengage with this conversation with him now. He will think it’s blown over and that I’ve been put in my place. I’ll never ever forget it or get over it though and it’s going to be over in the very near future.

I'm sorry, I've read as much as i can and it is utterly hideous. Chuck him out. if he comes back change the locks. It's your house. He is a fuckwit. Sorry I can't be more help. You don't need this shit.

This is not good. You do not need to live like this.

DreamingBe · Yesterday 21:52

OP, my ex got like this, and then very rapidly escalated to punching walls next to me, breaking my things, chasing me around and not letting me leave rooms, shouting insults at me in front of my kids, threatening me into having sex with him, grabbing me so hard it left bruises, stopping me from sleeping, and telling everyone including my own mother that I was abusing him. I've been to domestic abuse survivors support groups where other women experienced a fraction of that before it escalated to direct violence. Family court discredited my account of his behaviour after he hurt my child years later, as I hadn't called the police on him at the time. Tell the police. Tell your GP. Tell someone official so there is a paper trail of what you have posted here, in case you need it later.

Pjsallday · Yesterday 21:54

Was he supportive at the time of the r*pe? Did he not try to encourage you to report it to the police? Or at the very least given you love and empathy?

She won't be leaving him. They live in her property.
