Partner doesn’t believe I was raped

I’m in a state of disbelief so forgive any mistakes please. I need to know how to understand what has just happened or gain any insight into any of my own wrongdoing.

Partner was cross at me this morning because we made plans which I still wanted to go ahead with but he’s a bit hungover and reluctant. That’s the context. We were bickering.
The subject came up that I needed him to come with me to the shops (as planned yesterday), hinting that I’m some kind of dependent on him (I’m not). This descended into nastiness related to me being a sponge (I’m not). I made the point that if I were a goldigger or a sponge, I would’ve set my sights on a rich man. He then said I couldn’t do any better than him and why don’t I try (insert Rapist’s name here), which absolutely floored me. Why bring it up? It didn’t make sense in the context of the argument as he is unemployed.
I asked why my partner had brought up such a subject and he said ‘we both know it never happened anyway’. I’m sick to my stomach. I was then told that I loved every minute, that if it were true I’d have gone to the police and that if I wanted to I could’ve stopped it and shouldn’t have been at the rapist’s house in the first place. I said everything he just told me is the reason I didn’t want to go to the police.
I told him I would have no reason to have ever made this up and confided it was anal rape. I’ve been with my partner for 10 years and he knows I’m not into it. I thought he would think twice, but he doubled down and said that back in the day, his friend had told everyone in the pub that I’d had anal sex with him and that he was going round high fiving everyone about it. I didn’t even know this! And it’s not even true.
Why is my partner doing this? he has never forgiven me for having a short relationship with a friend of his, prior to meeting him. Tells me I’m a slag because of it. He called me a slag in the above exchange about the rape, as a reason for not believing me. I asked him how he could be with someone who he thinks would lie about something like this and he said he doesn’t know and is ‘rethinking everything’. I walked out of the coffee shop in disgust and am now dreading him coming home. What the fuck am I meant to do with all this information he’s given me about myself? I didn’t realise he was sitting on all these horrible thoughts.

You are meant to leave this man and never ever look back. No more talk. None. Go.

Mumofthreeteenagers · Yesterday 19:33

All that information he gave you is telling you to get out now! Get out before he does something to you too. Please! Evil bastard doesn't deserve you. Get out!

OP I agree with others that this is a dangerous man. But given you have a child with him and are traumatised i think it is fine to take some time - appease him (not too much!) so you are physically safe and then when you are ready have someone male with you who can help get him to leave. Take his key and pack his stuff up whilst he is out. Think about taking legal steps to protect you and your child - get some advice from a lawyer on how to guard against him trying to get full custody or any other awful abusive thing he might try to use your child to inflict on you. But despite those risks don't be tempted to just stay - your child will grow up with a monster for a role model, and assume that it is fine for men to be horrible to women. You will live in fear and sorrow. Don't wait too long - use the anger and fear and get him gone

Good luck OP, I think you will need it woth this man. But you know you are strong - you survived the rape and showed your strength afterwards, and you will do the same again. Rise above him.

I don’t know how I’d carry on with this relationship either but I’m in a state of shock right now. It seems like he actually hates me and wants to hurt me as much as possible but I don’t know why

You don't need to know why he is doing this because it isn't about you. This is his issue. Please leave and I rarely say that here or in real life.

Dancingintherain09 · Yesterday 19:38

You need to do things at your speed. The best thing for now is to grey rock him. Keep your cards close to your chest, get support from women's aid etc, and confide in people around you to what is happening. He's words are abuse and if you feel that you need to makea police report, all they need to know is you dont feel safe anymore as hes being emotionally and verbally abusive. Also this will help with getting him out of the house.
But these things need to be done when you are ready. Also see of womens aid can suggest legal routes.

Macanncheese · Yesterday 19:38

Please stay safe I have just left a relationship where he belittled me and made me out to be a liar repeatedly and laughed in my face like your partner too. When he didn’t get his own way after I stood my ground and ended it he became extremely dangerous and volatile. I hope you have support in real life to get through this. Above all else, I’m sorry that this happened to you and I send you hugs x

I don’t want to be with him. Sorry I’m not moving fast enough for everyone

I’m sorry love It’s an awful situation. You know what you have to do. He’s a coercive controller and it’s massively hard to untangle yourself from these men. Have you friends or family that can be with you?

It’s the man who attacked me who is unemployed, which is why it didn’t make sense to say ‘why don’t you try him’ when I said ‘well if I’m a gold digger I’d have gone for a rich man’. It came out of nowhere and then he seemed to get more and more annoyed. He has since asked me (since being home), why I brought up this man’s name but I didn’t! it was him. I feel like I’m going mad but I know I’m not.
He’s mocking me now. Has sidled up in a ‘what are you like, silly’ way batting his eyelashes and asked if I’ll sleep with him and pointed out he’s asked for consent 🙄 he finds himself hilarious. He’s stuck his finger up and said ‘this is for all your online people’
Honestly I’m starting to wonder if he’s ok mentally.

i know you’re in shock and it sounds to me like you’re also slightly in freeze mode. I know you need to move at your pace (which feels safe) but I’m worried you are not - please do at least one of the following today: 1) call the police and tell them what happened and ask them to assist you in making him leave and arrange an emergency locksmith 2) tell someone you trust in real life - a female friend who can come be with you and or call woman’s aid.
I’m also (like you! worried he sounds like he may be having a psychotic episode as his behaviour is insane. but he’s also absolutely vile - he needs to be removed from your life asap (ie forced to leave - it’s not a case of you going anywhere)
ps if I were his mum I’d disown him

She’s a lovely woman, I can’t heap all this on her as she lost her husband recently

It’s up to him where he goes. I wouldn’t get involved in sorting that out for him. If he tries to take advantage of his mother that’s not your doing. I am widowed and older and I wouldn’t like the way he’s treating you even though I would probably not openly comment. Depending how he had treated me in the past I would probably let him stay temporarily but if she says no that’s his problem. Technically he’s a lodger, he has no rights so all you have to do is give him written notice although it would be a good idea to have other adults around in case things kick off and you need the police. Try not to show emotion, just be clear and business like.

Because he is a misogynist pig. He hates you and probably has for quite a while. A lot of men hate women it’s not unusual although it’s always a shock to be so blatantly confronted with it. Don’t doubt what he is like, he has shown you his real feelings. You must leave. I can’t stress this enough. It’s not your job to play mummy or psychiatrist to him. He knows what he’s saying. LEAVE NOW or it will get worse. I also suggest you speak to your GP about the rape, she will put you in touch with women’s services in your area. I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this.

Surgz · Yesterday 19:45

You leave, as soon as. He is a disgusting specimen of a man, not just a bad partner. Please leave and if you can afford to see a specialist counsellor

Bigboldfont · Yesterday 19:47

message his mum, and ask her to come and get him and his stuff as he is no longer your partner and is abusive.

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · Yesterday 19:49

Rushing the break-up could lead you into an unsafe situation. You can take time to make a plan.

FancyKeyboard · Yesterday 19:50

Please see the messages on here as support and not pressure. It's one of the worst things I've read about a partner saying. He's an awful man who doesn't deserve to live with you.

Because he feels like the small man he is, so he needs to put you down to feel better. I think the one who needs to rethink everything is you.

Mapleleafinengland · Yesterday 19:59

This is an abusive relationship. Please be kind to yourself- end the relationship. It will take time to get over him but everything will work out for you in the long run. By staying with him, his treatment will get worse. Be strong, leave him and when he begs you back remember leopards don’t change their spots - he has jealousy issues

bigboykitty · Yesterday 20:01

@amigoingmadd you are obviously and understandably terribly shocked. It's okay to do it in your own way and in your own time. I think everyone on this thread is just worried about the damage he will do to you while he is still defending his disgusting behaviour. He sounds like a truly despicable excuse for a human being.

Isthisit22 · Yesterday 20:02

He sounds dangerous. Please tell him to leave again. It’s your house- he has no right to stay.
Do you have any male relatives you can call on to help remove him? If not, then I’d be speaking to the police and telling them what he’s just said about raping you.

whippersnapper55 · Yesterday 20:02

I'm so sorry OP, what a horrible bastard 😡 I'm glad you've made the decision to kick him out, even if you don't feel able to face that today. You cannot possibly stay with him after what he's said and done. You are worth so much better than him.

Try and stay away from him as much as possible and ignore him if he tries to goad you. Tell yourself he'll be gone soon. Get some support from friends and family if you can. You're doing so well holding it together but you're allowed to be angry, sad, cry and all the rest of it - that's what friends are for so don't hide this from them.

ScrumbleMonkey · Yesterday 20:04

He sounds like a total misogynist so yes, underneath it all, he probably does hate and want to hurt you. He certainly doesn’t care about you and his ‘true colours’ are now on show.

Sympathies for all you’ve been through both in the past and now. I hope you can find happiness with someone else x

MedusasHead · Yesterday 20:09

Take care op. We absolutely believe you. I think contacting Woman’s Aid tomorrow is a great shout if you feel up to it. I’m sending love - you can have a good life without him.

thismummydrinksgin · Yesterday 20:17

I mean how can you stay with him, his attitude is disgustingly. Honestly I never say this but you need to split.

Mamabearandcubs · Yesterday 20:18

Please don’t forgive your partner on this one, what an awful man
