Partner doesn’t believe I was raped

I’m in a state of disbelief so forgive any mistakes please. I need to know how to understand what has just happened or gain any insight into any of my own wrongdoing.

Partner was cross at me this morning because we made plans which I still wanted to go ahead with but he’s a bit hungover and reluctant. That’s the context. We were bickering.
The subject came up that I needed him to come with me to the shops (as planned yesterday), hinting that I’m some kind of dependent on him (I’m not). This descended into nastiness related to me being a sponge (I’m not). I made the point that if I were a goldigger or a sponge, I would’ve set my sights on a rich man. He then said I couldn’t do any better than him and why don’t I try (insert Rapist’s name here), which absolutely floored me. Why bring it up? It didn’t make sense in the context of the argument as he is unemployed.
I asked why my partner had brought up such a subject and he said ‘we both know it never happened anyway’. I’m sick to my stomach. I was then told that I loved every minute, that if it were true I’d have gone to the police and that if I wanted to I could’ve stopped it and shouldn’t have been at the rapist’s house in the first place. I said everything he just told me is the reason I didn’t want to go to the police.
I told him I would have no reason to have ever made this up and confided it was anal rape. I’ve been with my partner for 10 years and he knows I’m not into it. I thought he would think twice, but he doubled down and said that back in the day, his friend had told everyone in the pub that I’d had anal sex with him and that he was going round high fiving everyone about it. I didn’t even know this! And it’s not even true.
Why is my partner doing this? he has never forgiven me for having a short relationship with a friend of his, prior to meeting him. Tells me I’m a slag because of it. He called me a slag in the above exchange about the rape, as a reason for not believing me. I asked him how he could be with someone who he thinks would lie about something like this and he said he doesn’t know and is ‘rethinking everything’. I walked out of the coffee shop in disgust and am now dreading him coming home. What the fuck am I meant to do with all this information he’s given me about myself? I didn’t realise he was sitting on all these horrible thoughts.

Do you feel unsafe with him? If so call the police, tell them you have asked him to leave and he has refused. Get a locksmith in tomorrow or as soon as you can, guaranteed he’ll be able to find his keys when he wants to.
stay safe and also if you can, please get some therapy to help you through the rape and the end of the relationship with this vile specimen.

JenRummy · Yesterday 18:39

OP I’m so sorry for what happened to you and also that you’ve been living with an immature, misogynistic pr*ck all this time. He’s shown you who he is and what he thinks of you. It’s not right and vile.

Germaine Greer noted that women have no idea how much men hate them and that is clearly shown here. Just hoping you get some peace tonight to brace for next steps.

YellowBlanketAfternoon · Yesterday 18:40

I haven’t read anything but your first post and I’m so sorry that happened to you.

Your partner is abusive. I’m so sorry.

I do think you need to end this and speak to a therapist to figure out why you are in any doubt about this man. I suggest you speak to domestic abuse specialists.

Your Needs matter. You matter. You deserved better then and you deserve better now.

Lordofmyflies · Yesterday 18:42

Your partner is disgusting.
A vile excuse for a man. He cannot stay in your home. He has no respect for you and your children will 'sponge up' his attitude towards women. Protect yourself and your children by packing his bags tomorrow when he is out and leave them at his mother's. Change the locks, message him to tell him that his essential belongings are at mother's as you told him you are splitting up with him, as forewarned. If he turns up at your house, you ring the police.
Get a solicitor to arrange contact access and maintenance (photograph his payslips first) and for him to collect his belongings. No other contact unless through the solicitor.

He’s not unwell. He’s abusive.

It’s my house, he moved in with me and my older kids, we also have an 8 year old together. People would think the relationship ending has come out of nowhere and I’ll be the bad guy, of course. Everyone likes him.

Give them just one tiny bit of what you have shared here and they will see.

NewYearSameMe16 · Yesterday 19:03

This is horrendous; has he said or done anything like this before or has he just voiced these views out of nowhere? Do you have any male family or friends who could help to get him out or come and stay in a spare room or the sofa? If this verbal behaviour has surprised you, you might not be able to predict what he does physically. I don’t think you or any of your kids should be around him tonight and I’d be seeking legal advice first thing tomorrow.

OhcantthInkofaname · Yesterday 19:06

I'm sorry but why are you putting up with this emotional abuse today? You need to contact a domestic violence hotline. Pack his belongings and remove him from your home. TODAY.

Ohnobackagain · Yesterday 19:10

@amigoingmadd he is a vile human being.

When you said this “What the fuck am I meant to do with all this information he’s given me about myself?” what you do is ignore that for now and take the info he has shown you about himself - call Women’s Aid, change the locks.

How can he, who has moved in with you, call YOU the gold digger? He is a hypocrite.

Who are these fuckwit friends of his claiming you had anal with them?

I know you have a DC with him but - does that child deserve him in their life? Blimey, what a role model - not!

Please, please be careful and please do what you need to get rid.

amigoingmadd · Yesterday 19:15

I’m doing what I can. I’ve found out literally lunch time today about the vile inner workings of his mind.

Ohnobackagain · Yesterday 19:16

@amigoingmadd can anyone come and stay?

shhblackbag · Yesterday 19:18

At best he resents you, at worst it's even deeper than that. He sounds vile. I wouldn't feel safe with a person like that.

Please consider whether you are. I'm sorry. Take care of yourself and your children. He won't.

toiletpaperthief · Yesterday 19:18

Unemployed, nasty, lack of empathy, demeans you, gaslights, calls you slag, is abusive and cruel. You are with this man because ---- (please fill in the gaps for me so I get some idea why you're putting up with this looser).

amigoingmadd · Yesterday 19:21

I don’t want to be with him. Sorry I’m not moving fast enough for everyone

He hasn’t given you any information about yourself. You know what is true.

he has however revealed an awful lot
About himself and you need to run far and fast. There is no coming back from this.

This 100%

It's ok Op, your head must be spinning.

I know a lot of posters are urging you to leave him immediately, I was one of them but you need to let what's happened sink in and think clearly about the best way to proceed.

Leave the thread if it's no longer helpful, OP. MN threads like this often descend into simply berating the OP for not doing everything precisely as instructed instantly. Hope you're OK. You can do this, you're so much better than him and you deserve so much better.

SylvanMoon · Yesterday 19:25

I’ve called him partner here to make it clear who I’m typing about and because up to today he was.
Getting him out in theory should be easy enough. He rarely even remembers where his key is so I probably won’t even need a locksmith. The problem is what happens afterwards and I need to gear myself up mentally and get some things straight. How many horrible men turn up to the door to realise they are locked out and dumped and simply shuffle off amicably? Bad timing as well. The shopping trip was for my son’s birthday in a couple of days.

I'm glad you're determined to get him out, but you can't just lock him out if he's been living with you for some time. Please contact Women's Aid or Refuge National Domestic Abuse Helpline to get advice on how to get him out in a way that keeps you safe and within the law. You want to ask how to proceed safely since you have told him that you want him to leave and he's refusing. For now, you really you want to stop all engagement and verbal to and fros with this man. He's taunting you and waiting for a response, which you are probably giving him with your "attitude" even if you say no words. Have you space in the house to sleep in a different room, perhaps with your DC which might keep you safer until he leaves? Also, if he moves from speech that is intended to hurt you to actions that are making you feel threatened or which a physically violent or abusive, don't hesitate to call the police.

Mo819 · Yesterday 19:27

I am sorry sorry you have been through this . His victim blaming is disgusting.

muggart · Yesterday 19:28

You’re doing great OP. I know you will get hold of his key asap and lock him out. There’s no coming back from this.

given that you’re worried about the practicalities of ending it, i think PP had a great suggestion to call a dv helpline. they probably have a checklist or plan that you can follow. remember he is still abusive, even though he hasn’t hit you.

I wonder if he’s been reading some of the horrible comments about rape victims online that are circulating because of this Cornell 7 story, and that’s been influencing him. there are some really small pathetic men out there. sorry that your partner has turned out to be one of them.

ThreeLocusts · Yesterday 19:28

OP no extra advice but can't read and run. Don't apologise for not having got him out immediately. You need to do this safety and on your own terms.

It's shocking and horrifying what he has done and I 'm sorry you have to deal with it on top of everything else. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts while you work out how to get rid.

Purplebunnie · Yesterday 19:31

@ThreeLocusts and @muggart have given very good advice. You need to do this safely and a domestic violence helpline is a really good call

Sending you big hugs x
